Tom Cruise Making Another Mission Impossible Movie
I think Tom Cruise has realized that people just don't want to see him in a movie. Wait, I take that back. People don't want to pay Tom Cruise money to see him in a movie. You know if you pay to see a movie with Tom Cruise in it that you are indirectly supporting a cult. Others just think he is a crap actor and makes terrible choices. I think there is a little bit of a mix of both things involved, but whatever the reason, it is pretty clear that if Tom doesn't want to be sitting in the lower right square for the next 20 years that he better come up with something. So, he did. He and JJ Abrams are going to make Mission Impossible 4 which will start shooting in 5 months even though there is no script and no director. It will be released next summer. I think this means that Tom knows that his new movie with Cameron Diaz is going to be crap and will desperately need a hit. Therefore it is time to roll out the Ethan Hunt train much like Eddie Murphy is going to roll out the Axel Foley train.
Oy. No more, PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteeep...i think he's fallen into that aging action-star denial thing where franchises are the only salvation. he may start to smell of desperation soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm not paying a dime for anything attached to Tom.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the hate....so he is a scientologist and disagrees w/ the use of prescription drugs.
ReplyDeleteBut other than that he hasn't done anything to desrve this amt of hate.
I mean...so people think his gay...who gives a rat's ass....its no one's business.
He doesn't do drugs and he doesn't verbally abuse people like other stars.
His alright in my book.
Plus, his a good actor...esp. in born on 4th of july, interview w/ a vampire & collaterol ( awesome film).
CAN'T STAND HIM...
ReplyDeleteSporky, I'm with you.
ReplyDeleteoh wow vanessa, I dont think I have ever seen anyone defend him on this blog. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I would NEVER support him in any way possible, as his cult is responsible for both direct and indirect bullying and deaths... Just look at what they are doing in Haiti.
I don't want to support him AND he is a crappy actor. The worst thing about a Tom Cruise movie is that he never blends into the movie or becomes his character. It's always watching Tom Cruise move around and talk to people.
ReplyDeleteVanessa if Scientology were only about disagreeing with prescription drugs then you would have a point but it is much more than that. Enty has posted a ton of stuff about it on this site and there are a lot of other places you can go to get info on that creepy "religion".
ReplyDeleteAnd Tom Cruise is NOT a good actor. When I see him in a movie I think "I am watching Tom Cruise" not "I am watching (insert character name)". That is ok when I actually like the actor playing the character but since I detest Tom Cruise it makes the experience all the more painful.
Ha Cheryl! We are of the same mind :)
ReplyDelete@Cheryl--exactly!
ReplyDeleteAnd @Vanessa, we care because we're gossip hounds who love to harshly judge celebrities. That's why we read this site.
...or maybe I should speak for myself. But I find a perverse pleasure in ragging on celebrities, especially the ones who are doing genuinely loathsome things and/or desperately hide their real selves.
I don't care what anyone says. I loved Jerry Maguire.
ReplyDeleteIs it April 1st already?
ReplyDeleteI don't think he's a crappy actor, in fact, I have been pleasantly surprised by him in several movies. I think he's a modern classic. *L* I also think he's fucking weird and I won't exactly go out of my way to see his movies.

DITTO!!
You know, John Travolta is in the cult and I don't have the same venom for him that I have for Tom. John seems like a genuinely nice person who got roped in for what seemed to him the "right" reasons. Tom seems completely devoid of character - sucked dry and filled with their BS and complicit. He is aware of ALL of the supposedly underhanded and scary things that go on because of his close relationship with Miscaviage. If not, he's a brainless idiot, which I haven't ruled out. John acts like a normal human. Tom acts like a freaky robot. This doesn't excuse John for bringing a plane load of "touch" to Haiti, but I think he truly believes he's helping. Tom, on the other hand, would know exactly what propaganda he was doling out if he did the same thing. As for Tom's acting, he USED to be pretty good - now he seems to phone it in - from whatever planet he's from. I can't watch him anymore and his preening and platforms. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteSorry so long...
@ Babs, no kidding.
ReplyDeletePeople...explain why you think his a crappy actor.....
ReplyDeletedon't let your hate blind you to his talent.
What Harriet Hellfire said. I have enjoyed Tom's movies in the past (most recently Tropic Thunder) and feel like he DOES disappear into his roles. Personally, I hate his politics and won't go out of my way to see this movie, but the man can act.
ReplyDelete@Figgy
ReplyDeleteYou are completely right! We are commenting on gossip, that's inherently not nice!
Vanessa, unfortunately, with the way the media is in this age, it is hard to separate stars on screen characters from their off screen "character". We know too much about them - we've exposed "the man behind the curtain" and once that happens that's all you see.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think that since Jerry McGuire when he got SO deep into Scieno and started moving up, and putting his choreographed life so "out there", etc. that his acting has been affected. Just not charming like he used to be - as he ages, that charm has become smarm. He looks like he's either trying too hard or depending on his former charm to phone it in. That's all IMHO, of course. Others may have a better explanation for you.
He's going the way of Steven Segal, and I sure am enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteKinda OT, but have any of you seen any episodes of the orginal Mission Impossible? I feel Cruise has destroyed the true team dynamic of the tv series. He made it somehow all about him.
ReplyDeleteIn the tv show, it seemed like every week, they had a different team member take lead in a mission. Everyone was an equal.
Basically, what I am getting at is that I wish Cruise didn't piggyback off the name/show. The MI movies are just full of stupid dialogue and even lamer cgi.
Great. Now I have the MI theme song in my head like an ear worm.
ReplyDeleteI used to like Tom's movies but they just all seem to be the same character. I can still watch A Few Good Men, The Firm, Jerry Maguire, and Rainman but I think that is more because I like the other actors in them and I liked the storyline.
ReplyDeleteOh Tommy, it's not that we don't want to see movies, we just don't want to see your movies. We've grown up. We've gotten a little older and a little wiser.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the same 13 year old school girl I was when Top Gun came out. My adolescent eyes thought you were magnificent. But I grew up, and have come to realize that entire movie must have been filmed with you standing on, and in some scenes like the cockpit ones, sitting on a milk crate.
Between that revelation, your bat shit crazy behavior, and your robobride, the bubble has burst, and the dream is dead. It's time to pick up what little dignity and sanity you possess, and quietly fade out.
the only 'mission impossible' is trying to resurrect this little sawed off creep's career.
ReplyDeleteHATE tom cruise.
he was a decent actor before he went cult crazy. i still love born on the fourth of july and eyes wide shut.
ReplyDeletehe just needs work. so he can keep suri in heels and lipstick. and maybe yet another nose job.
UGH

ReplyDeleteand momma bear - I LOVE IT!!!!!! so true
ReplyDeleteLOL@Mommabear
ReplyDeleteGay Cruise is trying so hard to get his popularity back. It's not going to happen even with a MI-10 LOL.
"I also think he's fucking weird and I won't exactly go out of my way to see his movies."
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh, Harriet!!
And I totally agree!
Haven't ever been a fan. I think he plays the same character ad nauseum. Heck the best thing I saw him in for the last few years is that South Park ep. Trapped in the Closet.:) TommyBoy rocked that.
ReplyDeleteTom Cruise is one of the actors in Hollywood who fit into a niche (along with Natalie Portman, Keanu Reeves, etc.) whose billing for each new film should read, "Tom Cruise IS Tom Cruise in...Mission Impossible 4," or whatever. They really just play themselves over and over. How about using unknown actors for every new movie to keep the sense of reality authentic? They'd seem more real that way, somehow.
ReplyDeleteI personally enjoyed the last Mission Impossible film. They surrounded him with great, talented, likable actors (and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, can't win 'em all) and had a good mix of action, drama, and humour (a lot of it from Tom himself).
ReplyDeleteI liked it, so sure me.
If the same team are on board (especially Michelle Monanghan; Ethan needs a consistent love interest for me to care) then why the hell shouldn't they make another one. If you don't want to see it then, um, don't go.
Now I'm not arguing that he isn't an egomaniacal, SP-bothering, Zenu-bumming, tiny, little wack-job. But he's a good enough actor that I can just about manage to see past it.
*so sue me*.... please don't *sure* me.
ReplyDeletehe's a very decent actor and even very very good in some movies("magnolia","born in 4th july","jerry mcguire" or "tropic thunder") so if the movie is good, i will see the movie!!
ReplyDelete@ Vanessa - some of us just don't like crazy, whacked-out bullies with Napoleon complexes.
ReplyDeleteTom Cruise tries to bully the crew members on his film sets into joining his cult.
As far as his acting, I think he chooses gimmicky movies (Top Gun, Days of Thunder) and, as Cheryl and Alice D. Millionaire both put it, we see Tom Cruise on the screen and not the character he's supposed to be portraying. (I have the same problem with Tom Hanks, as likable as he is... I can see him acting!)
That said, that bit part he played in Tropic Thunder did surprise the hell out of me. I didn't think he had it in him. Maybe there's hope for him and he can be saved from himself and that thuggish cult he's neck-deep in.
