I don't want to say that you have to watch Parks & Recreation, but it is pretty damn funny and Aziz Ansari is one of the reasons why. Here he is with Kristen Schaal.

Saw the docu "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work" at Sundance and it's great! Really explains her and Melissa. There are some unflattering things about Joan in there and to her credit, she didn't tell the filmmakers to take anything out. She found watching the docu difficult, but came to Sundance to see audience reaction, which was great. I really recommend seeing it, when it comes out.

Every time we comment on weight we buy into the shallow, media driven BS that you have to look a certain way to be accepted and loved. I am also worried that postings on this site are becoming very mean spirited and nasty. Can we address people's actions (and I will accept clothing choices) rather than looks which they have no control over. And then when they do something to those looks, they get hammered anyway.

ReplyDeleteI really hate that Kelly Clarkston looks "big" to some people. I agree that we've become very accustomed to looking at actresses and singers who are a size 0, so a normal size looks abnormally large. It's getting bad.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to include that people like Tori Spelling, who probably starve themselves to look thin (i.e. picture above), would probably look freakish to the normal population (i.e. those of us who do not live in her world). Whereas someone like Kelly Clarkston, in person, would probably look completely normal and healthy.

Nobody REALLY knows why Tori is so thin, she could be like me and only be thin because of stomach issues that keep her from eating "like a normal person". Either we don't talk negatively about anyone's weight, or we talk about everyone's weight, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. At least not without sounding hypocritical.

I adore Shaun White! The "Flying Tomato" is just so damn likeable. I've got the biggest (non-sexual) crush on him. :) And, he's so freaking talented! He makes some insanely difficult snowboarding tricks look effortless.

ReplyDeleteKelly is a bit on the chubby side, like many Texas gals, but that's not really the issue. Her clothing and appearance seem to imply that she's just given up. Now I've read her blog and she sounds like a great, wonderful, sassy woman, as well as a great singing talent. But she could take a little more pride in her appearance. You know, wear clothing that flatters her and looks nice, and if she wants to go out without makeup, then throw some sunglasses and lip gloss on. It doesn't take much to make an effort - I have 3 kids and work, so I know - maybe just 5 minutes of thought? She certainly has the money to enable her to buy nice casual comfy clothes that still flatter.
