National Pancake Day

Today is one of my favorite days of the year. The only complaint I have is that I have only three or four IHOP's close enough to take advantage of the free pancakes they are bestowing upon the world today. The first one I went to at 6am today had a wait of about an hour for the free pancakes. They are good, and free is free, but if I get up that early I want food immediately, and if I have been dreaming of pancakes all night I want pancakes. So, instead of driving to another IHOP I just went to this diner I know and got something that looked a lot like the picture above. I once saw this picture and ever since then I have always eaten pancakes with bacon under each layer and a lovely fried egg on the top. Today really should be a national holiday. Families can get together and cook pancakes all day and try different varieties from all over the world. Strangers can get together at IHOP's and bond over the warm satisfying feeling of pancakes smothered in butter and maple syrup. I love this day.

Seems a bit unfair to have this glorious holiday during Lent. But the world is not a gentle place.

  6. I heard on the radio that they are asking for a donation, any amount, which will go to a children's hospital/Miracle Network/Make a Wish. Is that everywhere or just in my radio listening area?

  8. When I was growing up and my parents were strapped for cash feeding themselves and three hungry children, we often had pancakes for dinner and LOVED it! My dad showed us how to spread peanut butter over the pancake and roll it up. He also liked spreading cottage cheese and applesauce over his pancake and rolling that up. Good memories!!!!

Pictures like that just keep making my mouth hang open...especially after I read that it was BACON inbetween the layers and an EGG on top...Astounding:)

Nothing like bacon in maple syrup! Sausage isn't bad either.

I was recently in the hospital with H1N1 and was amazed on my first morning there to open my breakfast to-go box and find bacon! My nurse said "Honey, this is the south, we have bacon every morning." And they did. I'm still not over that.

  20. I feel totally out of it here. I kinda think that looks, um, yucky.

Pancakes are okay. I guess. In moderation. I like IHOP, though.

  23. Although not a traditional pancake, the Walker Brothers Pancake House franchise here in Illinois has an apple pancake you would die for. I mean, really- doughy goodness topped with baked apples, cinnamon glaze and TONS of butter? It doesn't get any better than that. Here's a pic:

    Apple Pancake.

Oh, Kristi! What a gorgeous pancake!

I'm kind of fond of the Cracker Barrel cherry pancakes, too. The tart cherries with the whipped cream....

    Kristi, that looks fabulous lol.

In San Antonio at the Magnolia Pancake Haus they have a dish like that but it's as big as the plate and I believe it's a german dish (Just checked it's Bavarian dish). Never tried it but it looks yummy.

  29. Every day should be pancake day!

@Linnea, for a box mix, "Hungry Jack" brand isn't bad. I can send you a box, but I'm afraid you're on your own for the maple syrup. :)
