Writing about Captain Phil and Deadliest Catch make me think about the narrator for the show, Mike Rowe. Of course whenever I think about Mike Rowe I think about his time on QVC. So, with that in mind here is another installment in my infrequent series of Mike Rowe's best moments on QVC. At some point you would think the idiots would compile a best of and sell the DVD on their network.
Fast Company has a great interview with Mike Rowe here: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/122/the-dirtiest-mind-in-business.html .
ReplyDeleteHe talks about his QVC days (including the infamous Nun doll) somewhere around page 3.
$45 for a lava lamp? I need to dig mine out and sell it on ebay.
ReplyDeleteI sure do love that man!
ReplyDeleteI love him, too. He just babbles on in the lava lamp clip. He has such a terrific voice I would listen to him babble all day.
ReplyDeleteInfamous nun doll? I hope that this is on youtube...
ReplyDelete"lava does have a tendancy to be a little warm, as those early inhabitants of Pompei would no doubt tell you...if they were still around"
ReplyDeleteLOL
Aw, ENTY!! Check out my photo. I loves me some Mike. In an interview he said he doesn't remember any of this. Probably because he was so tired from working overnights. Dirty Jobs is not only intersting, but funny as hell. Mike does a mean Eric Cartman imitation.
ReplyDeleteHaaaa! I had no idea Mike Rowe started on QVC.
ReplyDeleteWay funny.
I love him.
Molten lava, jumbo java.
ReplyDeleteI love Mike Rowe. I listened to his interview that Adam Carolla did on his podcast and it was the best hour of talk radio I had ever listened to. He's so...awesome.
ReplyDeleteI would also love to know how that old lady in the second video is doing with paying off her credit card debt now....
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Love you, Mike!
ReplyDeleteAnd he was an opera singer too!
ReplyDeleteLove HIM!!!!!!

ReplyDeletehe always took all the crazy, late-night calls...
ReplyDeleteLauren - EXACTLY what I was thinking. Poor dear sounded so lonely and was just looking for connection of any kind :(
ReplyDeletei have never heard of this person.
ReplyDeleteJohn, lets be honest. Its been a while since this was taped and she was obviously older then dirt then. (At least old enough to order dolls off QVC.) She's probably moved on to that big mall in the sky.
ReplyDeleteWow, that caller in video ##2 sounds like she's REALLY good with her $$! CREDIT IS NOT MONEY!!
ReplyDeletePookie, you are invited to my house for the next Dirty Jobs marathon!
ReplyDeleteThis is hysterical. I love when they make fun of QVC on The Soup.
ReplyDeleteWe love both Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch. I think Mike might be the Diva's first crush.
ReplyDeleteAsked her this morning didn't she want to brush her hair so the boys would think she's cute (she knew I was teasing her - she's a tomboy - and very cute) - she shrugs and says "they just run away from me. they run away from all the girls" - and I said "Awesome."
Love old school Mike rowe! Thanks Enty! I was lucky enough to be able to work with him back int he day at QVC. I would pull ot on overnites working the T-call desk (testimonail callers). We were the ones who had to weed the crazy's out before they went live on air. Mike was always a nut - i remember one time he got in trouble for having a water gun fight on air w/ the camera guys ... he was always getting a "talking" to. Loved him then still do today!
ReplyDeleteSTAYC!!
ReplyDeleteI wanna hear all your Mike stories. I am jell-ous.
Have you dug yourself out over there in Philly?
Trust me when I say that the contemporary QVC, i.e. the QVC from around 2000 and beyond, would not be able to organize a piss-up in a brewery. The customers are super-sweet (minus the odd occasional crazy) and the best resource that organization has, and some of what the company sells is top-notch, but everything else is horribly ramshackle and chaotic. So having them put out a "Best of Mike Rowe" DVD would require far too much organization and foresight for the higher-ups to deal with. Shame.
