John Edwards Beat Up Elizabeth Edwards

No matter what you may think overall about the National Enquirer, no one will argue that they have been first and correct with every John Edwards story they have written. They are reporting that the final straw in the marriage between Elizabeth and John was a fight they had which turned violent. Throughout the last two years of their marriage, Elizabeth would slap John and grab his arms and he would restrain her. This though was something else. Elizabeth told a friend that in one of their last fights that John beat Elizabeth.

Apparently now Elizabeth is holding it over John's head. She is threatening to amend her divorce papers to include domestic violence. I don't think he is ever going to recover from cheating on his cancer stricken wife then lying about it repeatedly and providing hush money to the baby's mother, but if Elizabeth comes out and says what happened, John might as well go hide in a corner for the next 30 years. This story just gets more horrific everyday.

  1. What a sad home life all around. He should just give her what she wants and be done with it. Everyone has been hurt enough.

  2. What shakey said.

There really is no explanation Edwards can offer that would validate any of his skeezy actions toward his wife and family.

  3. I'm not gonna lie: The former Edwards aide who wrote the book about this was on Hannity last night, and I really want to read the book. (Hangs head in shame.) I find the whole situation vile. Like Enty says, it really gets crazy with each passing day.

  4. How could someone who looks like John Ritter be such a beast!? I kid, but seriously, he reminds me of Jack Tripper. RIP

  5. Seems like Elizabeth acquired a backbone. Go after him for everything, sweetie. you've been through enough.

  6. Susan I am hanging my head in shame right along with you. Cannot wait to get my hands on that book!

Yes Elizabeth has cancer, but she lost all cred with me, when it was outted about them "discussing" how this could further them in the political race.

Don't hate me, I am a Cancer Survivor, and there some things you just don't exploit IMO.

I am convinced that he is as slimy as they make him out to be, and I am starting to think she ain't no angel either now.

  7. NE is also running the EE suicide threat/attempt stories (the issue with Oprah on the cover this week). What is interesting to me in all of this other than JE being a total CAD is that EE is coming off (via Young's book) as a shrew-very different from her media persona. Interesting for sure. Nothing is as it seems anymore. EE DID agree to the cover up to protect JE and his/her chances at the WH. That is what pisses me off. She was part of the coverup!!!

  8. I hate myself for even thinking this, but a little part of me wonders if she wouldn't say just about anything to discredit him now.

Don't get me wrong. I could never defend him--he is indefensible--and he was the bad actor in this whole skeeze-a-thon.

  9. During the interview last night, Young said that Elizabeth was well aware of Edwards' affairs well before he ran for president. According to Young, Elizabeth wanted her husband to run, despite his many indiscretions.

He also said that Rielle Hunter is a wackadoo and she thinks the baby has mystical powers and can change the world and whatnot. I mean seriously, I have to read this. It's better than fiction.

    I'm going to hell....

  10. @Susan and @Joella, I'm right behind you in line to buy that book! *shame* what's the title?

I'll say it again: what's so very sad about this is that this marriage started out with them very much in love and idealistic.

Sorry, but Elizabeth is not without fault. If they were beating on EACH other regardless of frequency, one's no better than the other.

    Team Assholes.

  12. I do not like John Edwards and what he did was despicable. But remember, these are allegations. Has there been a criminal report filed? Were there photos of Elizabeth Edwards that show any sign of physical trauma? These could be lies she is spreading to help her weakening reputation as a "saint". To lie about domestic abuse is never acceptable, even is she had cancer. She does nto get a pass if she is lying about such a serious allegation.

  13. The best quote in the book is when Edwards says to his aides "Why didn’t you come to me like a f—-ing man and tell me to stop f—ing her?"

I wish I could live in his world for a day to see what true narcissism is.

I can tell that Rielle is wacky. He could have found someone more sane to screw around with. EE's 'terminal' cancer should NOT have been used INTENTIONALLY and STRATEGICALLY for sympathy ploys.

    ReplyDelete
  15. they are both liars trying to make a buck or spin this. having cancer doesn't negate you from being a complete manipulative shrew. yes, he was a dick of epic proportions...but i still say being terminally ill doesn't give you a pass in life.

to quote Joy Behar, "The only thing keeping her alive is her anger."

let it go. if you really are terminal, don't spend your last days exacting revenge on someone who could care less anyway. where are their kids in all this mess?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The only people who deserve sympathy in this whole sordid mess are the kids. :(

  17. Having cancer doesn't excuse becoming physical with your husband. Neither does him being a complete and utter scumbag. Neither does being a woman. That said, they deserve one another.

  18. Let's see, the article says for the last two years Elizabeth has been hitting John. It goes on to say she finally left him when he beat her.

Okay that's too funny. Abuse is abuse. There's no way she can admit to hitting him because he made her angry and then cry abuse when he hits her back after two years.

I have no respect for any of the adults in this whole scandal.

All of the children from the three couples will suffer greatly down the road from their parents actions.

  19. Oh dear - this is just sad all around. I'm just happy his career has effectively ended. Let's hope it stays that way.

  20. He could have rcovered from the cheating thing. Newt G. did.

  21. I love how NE squeezes in "to a pal" under "Elizabeth Edwards' chilling confession" - so obvious, so transparent! Ugh.

Betsy - that quote is phenomenal. You can't cure that kind of arrogance and narcissism!!! LOL

  22. Looks like it must be a school holiday...

This is a perfect example of "you can't judge a book by it's cover," which, unfortunately is very, very prevalent in the political world. We pick the 'pretty' candidates, not taking the time to turn over the rock and see the bugs & writhing creatures underneath. I think many of our political 'shiny people' have dirty little secrets they don't want us to know about.

And I agree with Melody - if she's slapping him, she's guilty, too. People who strike their spouses or significant others are bad news.

    ReplyDelete
  23. P.S. My reference to 'school holiday' was for the disgusting post that has since disappeared. Thanks for removing it, Enty.

  24. Ah yes, the kids.

They have an adult daughter, which is bad enough but at least she can better handle it.

But those two little children! And they went to greeeaaaat lengths to have them after their son was (tragically) killed in a car accident. And why? Don't tell me their marriage wasn't already f-ed up by that point.

  25. this is such a sad case of ego, money, power and beauty. John for whatever reason i.e. sold soul to devil. Did not age the same way Elizabeth did. He still retained his youthful good looks vs. Elizabeth who got ravaged by time and cancer. He bedded the first blonde that came along and now is going to spend the next 18 years paying for it.

IF IF he beat Elizabeth, the fact she did not have him arrested is disgusting. They are both sick people feeding off of each other and really hope for their younger kids sake go their seperate ways.

"Let's see, the article says for the last two years Elizabeth has been hitting John. It goes on to say she finally left him when he beat her."

It is funny in a "not-supposed-to-be-funny" way. She can give that heat, but can't take the flame. If this article is even true.

@James, I won't say that he could NOT have rebounded, but a comeback for him would be 'extremely' difficult. I never say never though.

  28. In another political book out right now, "Game Change," the authors also detail the extent to which Elizabeth Edwards knew about her husband's cheating and her role in the cover-up. She comes off as a not-so-stable shrew who is driven by her desire to be in the White House. Her compulsion to win is matched only by her husband's, according to the authors and their sources.

Again, would not wish cancer on anyone and she and her family certainly has my sympathies, but she is not blameless in all of this. No excuse for what he did or ever for physical violence, but she is not the person portrayed in the media, either.

  29. I say wack-jobs X 3

Sorry, I can spot a liar from a mile away--I really should've been a fed--and I think John AND Elizabeth are liars to the nth degree. Never heard Reille speak, but birds of a feather...

  30. Elizabeth is an amazing, kind lady. If she "used" her cancer, it was to further her vision about health care for all. It was because of Elizabeth that I backed John Edwards in the primaries. Thank god my stupidity didn't pay off.

I hope Elizabeth kicks his ass to the county and back. I hope she gets everything. What a jerk.

  31. I watched the Youngs on 20/20 and they sure gave me a weird vibe. They even admitted they got caught up with living the high life while they flew on private jets and had nice vacations with John's babymama. It's amazing what political ambition can do to people. I'm waiting on someone to finish "Game Change" and pass it on to me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have often thought that it was Elizabeth who leaked the "Babymamma drama"..

Nothing like a woman scorned and hell bent.

I knew about the book "Game Changes" Is there another book coming out?

And I have always thought she/they put way too much pressure on the Oldest child. I remember once in an interview (20/20 maybe?) when they were talking about her cancer and the diganosis (way before the affair/baby drama came to light) how Elizabeth said how the Oldest child would get custody of the younger ones. I remember thinking WTF? and I think the excuse was "because John is so busy".. Looking back it really makes me stop and go hmmmmmmm.

  33. This whole crew gives me the willies. Can't remember if it was a book or an interview with someone in the know, but Edwards totally scheeved out John Kerry. He told Kerry a very personal story about his son's death and said that he'd never told anyone about it. Later, Kerry overheard him telling the same story again claiming he'd never told anyone. That is really sleazy, using a story about your son's fatal accident to score political points for personal gain.

  34. the Youngs were just on The View and stated Elizabeth knew about John's affair with Reille before he decided to even run.

she is just as guilty in the coverup.

    ReplyDelete
  35. rielle might be crazy, but she wasn't the one who wrote the book. she could have had a huge payday, bigger I'm certain than andrew young's.

in sum, I think that they all deserve each other but I feel very sad for all of the children, rielle's, elizabeths, and the young's. they are the only innocent victims.

I saw 20/20 and I thought how deceitful JE was. Lying to everybody and showing to the world how family oriented he was. What bug me was that he took his lover and had sex with her on the same bed that he shares with his wife. That is just not good. I hope JE gets what he deserves with all his lies.

    ReplyDelete
  37. EE: Lying, manipulative shrew.
Sounds like spin to a degree - however I am willing to believe that her WH ambitions were the equal of if not bigger than John's. To that extent, she took what she had and tried to make the best of it until it exploded in her face; then she tried to aid in the coverup but again, that failed.
So what do you do now?
    Certainly not Disney World.
Instead, you write a "tell-all-from-my-worldview-so-I-can-control-the-spin" book about how you were deceived all these years, you didn't know anything and you're suffering from terminal cancer so you're a pity party in action.

JE: walking, talking sorry ass excuse for a human being. Willing to sacrifice everything for his political ambitions, and did.
Not unlike several other politicos over the years, however his denial did manage to last longer than most others.

Reille: Flake who saw an opportunity to land Edwards by a "planned" "accidental" pregnancy.

All told, the only innocents in this sordid mess are the children.
And I can't wait for their tell alls to come out.

    ReplyDelete
  38. to think I would have voted for this ass.

not to be insensitive, but she has been terminal a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Abby, Reille already has a huge pay day. John Edwards is loaded. She has a home and everything she could ask for.

Probably in her crazy head if she stays quiet long enough. John will come back to her.

  40. Game Change authors were on WABC radio this morning. Fascinating stuff.

    * Young told friends years ago that he had a vasectomy.

    * With her husband, she could be intensely affectionate or brutally dismissive. At times subtly, at times blatantly, she was forever letting John know that she regarded him as her intellectual inferior. She called her spouse a “hick” in front of other people and derided his parents as rednecks. One time, when a friend asked if John had read a certain book, Elizabeth burst out laughing. “Oh, he doesn’t read books,” she said. “I’m the one who reads books.”

What a bag of snakes the characters in the Edwards saga are!

Mr. UPS just delivered my copy of Game Change. Imus sez every page reads like Page Six. Time to curl up with the book and a bowl of popcorn.

  43. say what you will about either of them i am just so happy that the public is still stringing him up for this shit. long gone are the days when the 'good ole boys' can sleep with whomever they choose while the rest of the world, and their wives, keep mum about it. I love love love that he cant ever be president after this. it makes me glad that at least sometimes ppl are forced to be held accountable for their actions (hello tiger woods!)

    ReplyDelete
  44. you know, this is one of those people who I thought were different and they totally dashed my hopes and let me down

I'm ashamed to say I ever voted for John Edwards, he had me totally fooled...

I kind of thought something was odd when he wasn't picked as Obama's running mate, and the scandal broke shortly thereafter.

I feel awful for the kids in all of this...

    ReplyDelete
  45. I only feel for the children. This story reminds me of my own. My father was a married man with a family who had an affair with my mother (he told her he was divorced) and produced me. My father was just as bad as Edwards and I was 34 before I sued his ass for paternity. I really feel for that little girl, because it is so horrid to hear your father disown you publicly just to safe his own ass.
