The Further Adventures Of Susan Boyle And The British Airways Lounge

When we last saw Susan Boyle in the British Airways lounge she was singing into a mop and disturbing all the other passengers with her attempts at "cleaning" them. She was escorted from the lounge, calmed down and then boarded her flight to Chicago. This week, there was no singing or cleaning, Susan just fainted in the lounge. "It was very dramatic. Susan's legs just gave way under her and she went down."

It also sounds dangerous. Susan was ok though and after being revived was allowed to board her flight and she performed at The San Remo Festival. I will say this about Susan's publicity people. They generally tell the truth. Despite there being no pictures of her fainting, her people admitted she did. They put it down to the lounge being really hot.

"Susan did faint at Heathrow as she overheated in the lounge because it was so warm. However, she is fine now and gave a fantastic performance at the festival."

  1. Susan Boyle simply isn't built to handle the pressure of fame. How many incidents has she had now?

  2. She needs soy. Soy milk, soy yogurt and anything else soy that she can consume. She is no youngster.

  9. There must be some way Enty can combine Susan Boyle airport stories and Richard Branson flight stories. That would be awesome.

  10. @nancer, hahaha! Me too!

Poor Susan. I really wish they'd just let her record in a studio and leave it at that. I don't want anything bad to happen to her, I mean, poor woman, she deserves to just enjoy her life/fame in her own way.

  11. Susan Boyle's story is the quintessence of "overnight success." It's like she was placed in a giant slingshot and rocketed into the stratosphere; a nobody in a tiny Scottish village one day, international media sensation the next. All things considered, she's handling the situation as well as can be expected. If you see her perform, after only one year, she rises to the occasion every time and has sustained her voice and improved her appearance and stage persona remarkably. Her audience responds to her authenticity, her humble roots, her dream-come-true story in a reaction to the prefab, self-indulgent pop CRAP that passes for music today. I never thought I'd say this, but she just might be the saviour of music--there is hope for truly talented!

  12. Oh, and as far as the keeling over in the airport is concerned (and I can speak from experience:) people who are raised in cooler climates don't deal with the heat well at all. It can be overpowering, as was the case here, obviously.

  16. The way that Susan was thrust into the media was always a little suspect. They tried to portray her as a wackadoo on Britain's Got Talent (with all the cuts to the judges/presenters eyebrow raises when she did the fake flirt/hip bumping with Simon and her overly exuberant personality) and the way the audience were pulling faces and laughing at her. As much as she deserves success like anyone who has a dream and talent to back it up, I always felt that her 'fame' came at her own expense. She was the butt of the joke and then the producers 'shocked' everyone with how well she could sing and went to great efforts to edit her initial episode to highlight this. I found it really condescending and it's no wonder she is not handling it well. She had no real preparation for this level of fame and attention and the press around her always seems so sensational and contrived (well her actions don't help that I guess).

I wish her well as she seems like a nice enough person. I hope she adjusts to the fame and gets to have the last laugh.

  17. You know, airports in general are maddening, it's a wonder any of us stand a chance of refraining from singing into a mop while we're there.

    Poor Susan. :(

  18. @Robert

While I agree with what you said about not doing so well in warmer climates when you are from a cooler one, I don't think it counts when you're talking about Scotland and England. :(
