Alexander McQueen Has Died

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen has taken his own life at age 40. His office confirmed his death, saying: 'It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.' He was found at his home in London.

  1. RIP McQueen - I love fashion and loved this designer. He understood and celebrated the female body, plus he liked skulls.

But why do you have bjork here? He didn't design that swan dress - Marjan Pejoski did.

  2. Those are some gorgeous clothes...with the exception of Bjork's frock...sorry. Hope Ballyhoo's right that it isn't his?

    F*ck you, suicide. Hatechoo.

  5. he always said his greatest fear was dying before his mother and leaving her that burden...she died a week ago. do the math. sad RIP.

  6. I am really bummed =( He was so inriguing! He designed Bjorks' Homogenic album cover as well as Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' video. He was so unique and visually stunning. This is just so sad. He was still so young.

  9. Sad to hear about someone taking their own lives, it's never the answer.

But, man, those are some crappy outfits he's made. No one other than a stick insect can fit in them. Freaking ugly clothes, and they call this fashion?

    ReplyDelete
  10. well he also made suits for Prince Charles and all the other billionaires on Saville Row...but is now really the time?

  11. So sad. He is one of my all time favorite designers. The trio of yellow dresses are beautiful. I think Drew Barrymore wore on recently(the peacock one). His dresses are breathtakingly beautiful.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder-but it is crappy to criticize his clothes on the day of his tragic death. Seriously.

  12. so sad for his family.

    :(

  13. Ballyhoo is right about the dreaded swan dress.

Another sad death. He had a very unique & artistic vision, it's a shame he decided to end his journey here.

  14. I guess it just goes to show that even if it seems like someone has a glamorous, wonderful, exciting life, they may be miserable inside. Poor guy, I wish he had gotten help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem....a problem that can usually be dealt with, if not fixed. Sad.

  15. i remember his fashion show with a Kate Moss hologram:it was beautiful and moving! SAD SAD he was so talented

  16. Tragic indeed.

His fashion was art, never meant to be seen at the mall. If you don't get it, that says more about you, not his artistic brilliance.

  17. Way too young to die. He had such vision, imagine what we could have witnessed from him in years to come.

RIP Mr. McQueen, I hope you are now pain-free.

    I loved his clothes.:(

  19. I love fashion and I had to smile when I read that he had secretly sewn "I am an asshole" inside a suit for the prince.

I also read the interview that his greatest fear was his mother dying. I guess he couldn't go on without her. So sad.

  21. I haven't commented til now, but red leo, you are a gigantic waste of your space. I hope one day when you pass people mention ' that sucks. but her food, you should have tried that, it was the worst, she made food for fatties." Because thats the most appropriate thing to say.

    ReplyDelete
  22. little red leo finds a wonderful time to criticize someone else's art. alexander mcqueen was incredibly successful - and believe it or not, without your opinion.

  23. by the way, when did you learn that mcqueen designed bjork's swan dress? that wasn't him.

This man obviously hated women. His designs reflect that. He also hated ethnic models. He booked only white models. His hatred of women went so far as to hide their faces.

Sorry you guys feel such sympathy for yet another David Duke.

    ReplyDelete
  25. David Duke?!? Care to defend that with some evidence, bawana? How utterly ridiculous, unsubstantiated and rude.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous2:08 PM

RocketQueen, just look at the videos on his website and tell me if you spot any darker faces. I have for years been intrigued by his designs and would watch the videos, but could not help but notice the absolute OBVIOUS discrimination.

Or he couldn't find any black models that were attractive enough? Hhm?

    ReplyDelete
  27. bawana's comment is hilarious! I'm looking at the very first design photo here ... the first model in the gorgy purple butterfly dress is Asian. Say what? (<----Regretsy reference)

    ReplyDelete
  28. @bawana - you're basing your hatred on his WEBSITE? Perhaps you should have a chat with Naomi Campbell, who modeled for him many times and is grieving for him today.

And while you're at it - he hated women?? I want to laugh your comments are so ridiculous, but instead I'm just disgusted that you would spew such unsubstantiated hatred on the day the man died.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous2:23 PM

That is not an Asian model. Besides, plenty of racists give "honorary" white status to Asians. And just because he may cozy up to a celebrity Naomi, he did NOT hire ordinary working models. Plenty of designers do this (like Prada) and I find it disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous2:26 PM

Frankly, many designers obviously hate women. Why else do they book models who appear to be walking skeletons?

And he didn't "die", he killed himself!

    ReplyDelete
  31. The dead man didn't die? Asians have honorary white status? Naomi Campbell doesn't count as a black model? bawana, you are full of comedic gold today!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wait a minute ... the verbal diarrhea, the goofy race talk, bawana is John Mayer, no???

    ReplyDelete
  33. I applaud your ability to laugh at bawana's crap, chopchop ;) I've personally had enough.

For the record, bawana, even though MY father killed himself, we still tell people he died. Because he's DEAD. Imagine that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i think you solved that blind chopchop.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm so sorry RocketQueen. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks chopchop :)
I'll never understand how people can be so insensitive. And I'm with you on your John Mayer guess :)

  37. RIP Alexander. He was an artist.

  38. sorry to hear that Rocket Queen :( Don't feed the trolls. I am not one (although I am Catholic) who believes ppl who commit suicide are "less than" or "don't go to heaven" blah blah blah. Mental disease is something that I hope, in my lifetime, we can understand more clearly. I also hope humanity itself can be a little more sympathetic to those who desperately need help yet don't know who/where/how to get it. My prayers are with McQueen's family and yours, RQ.

  39. Giovanna - I'm really sorry my post insulted you, but if this board is for opinions, I'll keep giving mine. No one asked you to sign up and post your anger out on me, but yet, here you are. My opinion is mine and mine alone, you don't like it, don't read me. That's it.

There are 44 models in this photo. None appear to be black. Not hiring blacks is the number one form of racism because it damages them economically.

Anyone who wants to pretend that Asians are discriminated against the same as blacks is a LIAR.

Lastly, it is indeed unfortunate when a person commits suicide, chiefly because of the devastation it leaves behind for the family and friends and is the ultimate selfish act. "Oh, I'll end MY pain." How about the pain your loved ones will experience when you're gone?

Lastly, racism is not goofy. It is a reality.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I just have a quick comment about asians and racism. Come to Toronto and listen them to complain about racism against them, they put themselves in the same sphere as African Americans/ black Canadians.

Now, that is something I consider weird. In America, is African American, here you can just say black and it's ok. Perhaps it's historical. I dunno.

  42. Rocket Queen, I'm so sorry :(

There was a time in my life that I was so depressed that I tried to kill myself. Now, I'm so glad that didn't work and that I was able to heal.

The news of McQueen's death made me very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It was *his* life to take after all, and "he only thought about himself" accusations are quite selfish themselves. Who was he supposed to consider first? You?

    ReplyDelete
  44. "suicide is the ultimate selfish act"

What is selfish is the fact that one could not be sympathetic to the devastating & all encompassing sadness another person must feel to end their life.

May you never have so much pain & sadness that you can't find joy in anything, for years.

  45. Well said, mygeorgie and tatyana and thanks shoe addict and chihuahuaense.
I'm not going to dignify bawana's bullshit with any more to say. I know very well the pain of losing my father to suicide...who is still dead. And I can't imagine the pain he felt, nor anyone who chooses to end their lives. Sympathy for everyone involved. Depression is a horrible illness.

My cousin was diagnosedw with cancer and one year to live. Her kids were only 3 yrs old. She fought like crazy to LIVE so that her kids would remember having a mum that loved them more than anything. She managed to live until the kids were 6. Her suffering was frightening to watch, but she said if she died too soon, the kids wouldn't remember the feeling of unconditional love.

The kids are now healthy happy adults and remember their mum's love and sacrifice to LIVE FOR THEM.

Too bad rocketqueen's dad wasn't willing to do the same for her.

Tatyana, as PREVIOUSLY stated, McQ should have considered the feeling of his family & friends. McQueen was one of six siblings. They must be gutted to lose their mum and brother in the span of a week!

mygeorgie, maybe a bit more personal fortitude and less coddling would be good for society in general.

  51. Alexander McQueen was *NOT* racist. Anyone who says so is unfamiliar with his legacy.

He was the first British designer to use Indian models. Naomi Campbell regularly modeled for him. He was always actively criticizing the fashion industry for their racist run-ways. If his shows lacked non-white models, it is likely part of the narrative of the cat-walk that he openly satirized at every opportunity.

He was a brilliant designer who changed the ways we think about fashion as a medium for art, and it's doubtful we'll see an avant-garde designer as incredibly well-rounded and historically literate as he.

  52. You have no understanding of suicide, bawana, so I'd prefer you just STFU.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous1:39 PM

rocketqueen, you SAID you wouldn't be back. That's why I felt free to compare your story to my cousins heroic example.

I don't understand suicide. I know its wrong. It should be discouraged in every way possible and not considered an acceptable solution to "pain" or depression.

    ReplyDelete
  54. bawana said "maybe a bit more personal fortitude and less coddling would be good for society in general."

My aunt committed suicide after suffering wretched abuse her whole childhood & throughout her entire marriage. She raised 6 kids and STILL could not find a spec of hope or piece. Unlike you, she did not have a coddled life. She fought the fight & lost.

You my dear are a cold & uneducated fuck with zero perspective of life's experience, except your own. Good luck with that.

btw, with all due respect to your cousin's situation, you cannot gaige one person's pain against anothers. You truly are an ignoramous and would do yourself justice to STFU, as RQ has stated.

So this argument boils down to everyone telling their own personal "suicide in the family" stories?

Yes, I have a recent suicide in my family too. The family member never in anyway indicated his intent. He snuck off and did it. He left lots of unhappy family members who are still struggling with his choice.

The tone of his suicide note was rather romantic and bought into all the platitudes I see spewed all over this page.

Do you people seriously think it's okay to kill yourself???

    ReplyDelete
  57. - bawana, I agree with you about suicide. My catholic upbringing wasn't the greatest, and I sure didn't spend all of my Sundays in church, but I do understand that life is a gift that shouldn't be thrown away - no matter how hard life gets.

What I find repulsive is those people who go "aww poor him, he must have been so unhappy. I'm so sad for him". Fuck him. He had a gift (regardless of my personal feeling for his art) and he basically made all of this worthless by taking his own fucking life.
