I can't believe it, but I don't think I have ever asked this question. With the season premiere of Lost just a few nights away, I thought this would be the perfect time. It is actually two questions.
#1 - Favorite TV show of all time
#2 - Favorite TV show currently airing.
There are lots of television shows that I have loved through the years. Sopranos is probably my favorite, but I could make a case for Arrested Development, Arli$$, Amazing Race, The IT Crowd, and David Letterman when he was back on NBC. As for a show currently airing, I would have to go with IT Crowd or Lost.
1. Tie between Golden Girls and Six Feet Under
ReplyDelete2. Another tie between LOST & Big Love
1. I really liked Huff
ReplyDelete2. True Blood
1. Golden Girls, Dynasty, Space 1999
ReplyDelete2. Modern Family, Glee
Hands down, The Office for both! :)
ReplyDelete1. Tie between The Wire and Fawlty Towers
ReplyDelete2. Modern Family/LOST/Glee
1. The Love Boat
ReplyDelete2. Modern Family
Holy shitbah, I love The IT Crowd. I always have to defend it.
ReplyDeleteI need to give this a proper thought.
Bones. Love that show
ReplyDeleteOf all time - The Dick Van Dyke Show.
ReplyDeleteCurrently on, I'm gonna say this season's Dexter, even though it's over, but I'm sure Lost will soon replace that. Can. Not. Wait.
Wow. So many to choose from!
ReplyDelete1. Tie between Moonlighting & Six Feet Under.
2. Tie between True Blood & Dexter
I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of. Just too many show's I've like to mention!
1. Six Feet Under
ReplyDelete2. True Blood
1. MASH, The Beverly Hillbillies
ReplyDelete2. Lost, Weeds
whoa tough one.
ReplyDelete1. tie between facts of life, golden girls and fantasy island
2. Tie between True Blood and the Tudors
Shit! I forgot about Weeds. See I knew it! Way too many good show's to pick just one!
ReplyDelete1.Twin Peaks ( closely followed by Ripley's Believe it or Not hoted by Jack Palance )
ReplyDelete2. Lost bitches!
** thats hosted as opposed to hoted :D
ReplyDeleteAlias
ReplyDeleteTie between Lost/Glee

ReplyDeleteTwin Peaks was AWESOME!!
Are you a closet Brit Enty? You do love our best TV shows!
ReplyDelete1) Green Wing (another surreal comedy for you Enty)
2) Big Bang Theory
lol@ Icecat!
ReplyDelete1. Law and Order bitches. Jerry Orbach is my old man crush.
ReplyDelete2. Modern Family or *gasp* Survivor
1. Seinfeld
ReplyDeleteCurb your Enthusiasm
Arrested Developement
2. Bones
New Adventures of Old Christine (SO funny!)
Weeds
dexter
**Really liking Modern Family
oh god this one is hard
ReplyDelete1. def Arrested Development. So good. Also liked Sex and the City when it was on- now it's just so played out that it's sad. Rome was amazing too- wish they'd done more seasons. Also Gargoyles (the cartoon was amazing and there were some really cool references to Shakespear lit) Also the original TMNT cartoon on Saturda mornings rocked.
2. 30 Rock really is great. But I could also argue for True Blood and Project Runway.
I fell in love with the Mary Tyler Moore show when it was running daily on Nick at Night. Great, great show.
ReplyDeleteCurrent - tie between Top Chef and Holmes on Homes (HGTV - 10:00 Sunday). Mike Holmes goes into people's homes (hence the title) where they had a remodeling nightmare via a bad contractor. He takes out everything the bad contractor did (and there are some doozies), fixes it and gives the homeowner something better than they had originally planned. Some of these were major home remodels, like finished basements or additions where the poor workmanship isn't visible. He usually finds way more than what was thought to be originally wrong.
Fav show of all-time is Cosby hands down. Fav show currently on (hiatus, but still) is Dexter. It makes me squeeee! :D
ReplyDelete#1 - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
ReplyDelete#2 - A toss-up between Inuyasha: The Final Act, Naruto Shippuden, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
I read CDAN everyday and I can't believe this is the first time I am posting. Enty-ur THE best! Best TV show of all time is I Love Lucy. Nothing will ever compare. When they used to compare D.Messing (possible coke mom)to Lucille Ball that was a slap in LBs face. Timeless, classic...even when my mom passed and I didn't come out of my house for a month I watched Lucy and she ALWAYS made me smile. I have the complete collection - went to Jamestown NY to Lucy-land and to see her grave. Don't watch much now - GH (James Franco was so hot on it) and Desp Housewives and Bro/Sisters.
ReplyDelete1. It's a tie between Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls (Both Bryan Fuller creations, along with the wonderful Pushing Daisies)
ReplyDelete2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
@ marisa - I really wish they would have continued at least a season or two more of Rome. It was great. Castor Pullox yum!
ReplyDeleteI decided on a toss up for questions #2 - second choice would be Trailer Park Boys ...easy! That show does nothing but make me happy.
Yeah RocketQueen I suck at these type of games. Everything is usually my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteI do have to mention 2 more shows that are my "favorites", and I could smack myself for not thinking of them because they have been a part of my life for so long...
The Simpsons
Futurama
Okay I'm done... I promise!
1. The Wire | Deadwood | Firefly
ReplyDelete2. The Amazing Race

ReplyDelete2. True Blood or House

Good Times, Sanford and Son and SATC
ReplyDeleteFriday Night Lights/Dexter/Damages

ReplyDeleteFelicity!! I cried when it ended .
ReplyDeleteRight now- Modern Family- it is so funny.
I don't think I can do it. Too many things I love:
ReplyDeletetop three are:
Buffy
Robin of Sherwood
Masterpiece Theatre
Currently running:
Lost
1. Hmm.. Probably a tie between Freaks and Geeks and Arrested Development, and I really loved Scrubs season 1-5..
ReplyDelete2. How I met your mother.. And Dexter.. And Glee..

This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ Max Headroom. Awesome!!

ReplyDelete2. Psych (with Better off Ted a close second)
1. Doctor Who, Six Feet Under, Masterpiece Theater
ReplyDelete2. Modern Family, Community, Project Runway
Breaking Bad is def the best show on tv right now IMO.
ReplyDeleteBrian Cranston is a frickin' genius actor.
Current Favourite is Sons of Anarchy it used to be Bones until they brought in the Sweets character.
ReplyDeleteFavourite of all time; Huh that is tough considering I am additcted to TV. There are a few probably
Supernatural (I watch reruns and still enjoy it)
Dallas (Cringe...but I watched it right up until the last episode so I guess I must have loved it--- A LOT) and
Little House On The Prarie and
The Waltons
Showing my age here...........
ReplyDeleteTHE PAPAER CHASE with the great John Houseman
1. Magnum, PI(still holds up today on DVD), Dallas, Knots Landing~Thursdays and Fridays nights on CBS were great in the 1980's~loved Dynasty, too!! LOL and a real oldie, Hawaii 5-0
ReplyDelete2. Lost is the best show!! I am totally into it! Jack or Sawyer, such a tough choice!!
1. Seinfeld/Top Gear/Fawlty Towers (never laugh out loud so much in my life, than when I watch any of the 12 (!) episodes)
ReplyDelete2. Top Gear/Dirty Jobs
1. 3 way tie
ReplyDeleteBuffy the Vampire Slayer
Gilmore Girls
King of the Hill
2. 3 way tie

ReplyDelete2) Mad Men (though not airing right now), Lost
In the 80's Tim Reid had a show called Frank's Place that was so good.
ReplyDeleteWeeds, Dexter, In Treatment
I'm really into reruns of The Nanny right now. 2 hours every night on Nick!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't really watch enough TV to get into a series now. And football season is pretty much over - harrumph!
There's no way this is hard and fast, but here goes:
ReplyDelete1) Seinfeld is an obvious candidate for best of all time. Frasier is another great classic (whatever happened to Kelsey Grammer's career anyway). I also confess, I was OBSESSED with Dawson's Creek and Party of Five.
2) House has been my favorite for a few years, but maybe getting old. I'm really digging Fringe right now -- love me some Joshua Jackson.
I just can't choose...
ReplyDeleteI guess i'll go with The Simpsons for #1 & #2, because it just doesn't get boring and i've loved it since i can remember. And maybe Sex & The City for #1 too...
1. Buffy
ReplyDelete2. Mad Men
Sinkabella - I love "I Love Lucy" too (though not the later shows). I think one of the reasons I love "The Nanny" so much is during the episode where Fran fills in for Maggie as a candy striper and a doctor, thinking she's a nurse, orders her to shave Mr. Sheffield for his emergency appendectomy, her actions reminded me so much of Lucy when she got into one of her predicaments - I was rolling! Now I find myself looking for scenes to compare. Plus I just love Fran's outfits (and dreaming I could someday get one thigh into them...)
ReplyDeleteTHE WIRE.
ReplyDeletecurrent favorite: tie between SONS OF ANARCHY and DAMAGES.
Woohoo for the Twin Peaks fans! When I was going to college in San Diego, there was a diner that had Twin Peaks night...coffee and cherry pie all around! It was so fun.
ReplyDelete#1. Twin Peaks, Sopranos
#2. True Blood, 24. I love me some Jack Bauer!
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
ReplyDelete2. Ugly Betty.
1. Upstairs Downstairs closely followed by Cagney and Lacey and the 3rd season of Xena.
ReplyDelete2. Big Bang Theory and Glee.
1) Golden Girls
ReplyDelete2) Odd Couple
1) Golden Girls
ReplyDelete2) Odd Couple
1. Monty Python's Flying Circus
ReplyDelete2. True Blood
Ahh, how did I forget Freaks and Geeks as well as Undeclared?!?
ReplyDeleteMan, everyone's comments have made me realize that I need to update my Netflicks queue in a major way.
NOW
ReplyDelete1. Battlestar Gallactica/Caprica (they are part of the same universe and therefore count as one, damnit)
2. Lost
THEN
1. The X-Files
2. Buffy/Angel (same universe)
Can't decide whether I prefer the good old days or the here and now so I went with both. Don't get me started on the 80s or 70s.
Actually, it's a tie between BtVS and Golden Girls.
ReplyDeleteAnd for #2 - Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl, Chuck and Glee make my second, third, and fourth, in no particular order.
I was content to just enjoy everybody's guesses. But @ ihpguy, I LOVED THE PAPER CHASE too!! Professor Kingsfield was the best.
ReplyDeleteI guess my favorite current show is Mad Men.
1. Alias Smith and Jones; MI5; Game, Set, Match; the Sandbaggers.
ReplyDelete2. Dexter; Weeds; Californication; Archer; Madmen.
1) All time favorites: (American) X-Files, (UK) Coupling
ReplyDelete2) Current favorites: (American) tie b/w Lost, Fringe & True Blood, (UK) Dr. Who
1. West Wing, St. Elsewhere & Gilmore Girls
ReplyDelete2. NCIS (I know... I know, but Mark Harmon is so hot and I'll follow any show he is on in his career - forever)
Tough Question! Lots to choose from...
ReplyDelete1. The Simpsons
2. Mad Men
p.s. I really like Lost too!
ReplyDelete1. The Wire (with love and kisses to Arrested Development, Mary Tyler Moore show, The Office, and The Sopranos)
ReplyDelete2. hmmm. Probably 30 Rock or The Office when it's good.
Oh damn. There's been so many...
ReplyDeleteI was a hardcore X-Phile back in the day. Even after season 5, when the show had started to 'jump the shark', I stuck by it. Seasons 8 and 9 were admittedly a struggle to watch...
Though I got into it late, I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I really need to get the rest of the seasons on DVD.
As for now, I try not to miss House or Grey's Anatomy, though they've both been...lacking...the last couple of seasons. Doctor Who is a definate must watch, though I'm a bit hesitant about the 'new' Doctor. And I've been watching a lot of a wonderful quiz show hosted by Stephen Fry called QI on YouTube. I <3 him.
yay ali for saying huff. i love that show, i'm trying to think of something i watched when i was a kid though... maybe rags to riches. i loved that shit then. And the State was amazing. Then Stella. AHHH too many to choose from.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I will say hooperman. ;D
as for now, i like royal pains a whole lot because though i'm not a concierge doctor, i relate? LOL especially to his girlfriend. She = me. She even kinda resembles me.
I also like Childrens Hospital. if you haven't seen it, google it. Not to mention another David Wain show, Michael and Michael Have Issues.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete1. I Love Lucy/Golden Girls/Carol Burnett Show
ReplyDelete2. Lost/Glee/Modern Family/football (ok not an actual show, but really really into football...lol)
1. MASH, Sports Night
ReplyDelete2. Top Chef
Oh, also love Ugly Betty & pretty bummed it's ending...always found that show hilarious!
ReplyDelete1) X-Files
ReplyDelete2) Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
Similar to AphraelDanae above, I didn't watch the last year or two.
ReplyDeleteUK = Ab Fab and Doctor Who/Torchwood (same universe, people)
ReplyDeleteOops. Meant to attach Millennium to my X-Files choice (again, same universe).
ReplyDeleteWell for past probably Sex and the City, though I did really like Life As We Know It and it should have lasted more than one season. Oh! And Tales From the Crypt and Masters of Horror!
ReplyDeleteNow..so many. Almost any show on HBO or Showtime. Psych. Chuck. Lost. 30 Rock.
And these are only about 1/3 of the shows that I love.
i am so glad to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer being represented on here!!! LOVE THAT SHOW TO PIECES and even got my boyfriend into it. He also agrees that the writing was just phenomenal and ahead of its time.
ReplyDeleteMy choices:
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Seinfeld
2. Breaking Bad/LOST
Favorite of all time might be Alias, but I don't think I really have an all-time favorite.
ReplyDeleteCurrently airing: a tie between House and 24.
The Wire
ReplyDeleteThe Office
1- Arrested Development / The Riches
ReplyDelete2- Damages
1. Beverly Hills 90210--the original. I could watch re-runs on Soapnet all day every day.
ReplyDelete2. Damages, Glee, Weeds. I can't pick just one!
Then - (and still now on DVD at my house)Will & Grace, Seinfeld. I also love the early seasons of Mary Tyler Moore and That Girl.
ReplyDeleteNow - I never miss Project Runway, Top Chef, Amazing Race.
1. The Golden Girls
ReplyDelete2. Curb your Enthusiasm
1 - M*A*S*H
ReplyDelete2 - NCIS
I guess i like initials.....
1) Lost
ReplyDelete2) Lost!!
I love this question!
ReplyDelete1. A tie between Buffy, Firefly, X-Files, and Freaks & Geeks
2. It's almost painful to narrow it down, so I'll say Glee, Community, The Office, 30 Rock, and Friday Night Lights
@Syd: Good call on The Riches.
ReplyDeletei miss friends and sex and the city the most
ReplyDeletenow i like lost, how i met your mother, modern family, true blood and glee :)
All Time: M*A*S*H
ReplyDeleteNow: Lost
1)Sex and the city
ReplyDelete2)Mad Men or True Blood (even though the changes from the books drive me crazy sometimes)
1. Seinfeld
ReplyDelete2. Red Eye
1 The West Wing/ NYPD Blue
ReplyDelete2 Glee/ True Blood
1. The Wire - I don't think that anybody who watched at least one full season (a few episodes isn't enough to get how brilliant this show is)would argue. Quite simply the most intelligent, engaging, complex, emotionally wrenching show in the history of the medium
ReplyDelete2. Weeds or Big Love.
1. X-Files
ReplyDelete2. Family Guy
Marina, have you watched 'Millenium' again on dvd? It's held up even better than the 'X-Files' imho. I also think that 'Angel' held up better than 'Buffy.'
ReplyDeleteI'm going to add a "favorite classic show" pick to my list, because I can't go without mentioning "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." Robert Vaughn is my #1 celeb crush of all time.
Sons of Anarchy on FX rocks!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is hard. I'm afraid I can't do just one.
ReplyDeleteAll time: Deadwood, The Wire, China Beach, Moonlighting, The West Wing
Now: Supernatural, definitely, followed extremely closely by Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, and Sons of Anarchy
fav Tv show of all time:Buffy/Oz/Mr Bean
ReplyDeletefav TV show curretly airing:"Law&Order"
1. Cheers
ReplyDelete2. Californication
Past, to be different, I'll say "Wiseguy" (brilliant show that's almost impossible to rerun because of the arc concept that it invented).
ReplyDeletePresent, to be different, I'll say Criminal Minds.
1. Can't list just one. Friends, Alias and The West Wing
ReplyDelete2. Lost and Bones
Melody the First,
ReplyDeleteWiseguy was excellent, good pick.
1. Firefly, Arrested Development, La Femme Nikita (it didn't age well, but I LOVED it in high school)
ReplyDelete2. Dexter, Chuck, Glee, Castle
On a side note, I would be very happy to see Adam Baldwin in the random photos sometime. His politics are awful but he has the most gorgeous legs...
so many ties -
ReplyDeleteAll Time:
Friends (don't hate me!)
Sex & the City
Dick Van Dyke Show
Sports Night
Temptation Island (god, how I miss it!)
Antiques Road Show
Current:
Castle!!!!!
Bones
NCIS (original)
The Office
#1 Knot's Landing
ReplyDeleteAbby's(Donna Mills) hair and makeup were the main reason!
#2 Burn Notice
All Bruce, all the time
Of all time:
ReplyDeleteQUANTUM LEAP!!!!
Now--don't watch tv, but I download episodes of Heroes and HIMYM.
Survivor/Amazing Race will always be top five, too.
1. The X-Files for drama and Arrested Development for comedy. The relationship between Scully and Mulder was very well-written and, to me, the show isn't even about monsters, aliens, and government conspiracies, it's about the importance of having a close friend stand by you despite whatever fucked up thing is happening in your life.
ReplyDelete2. Burn Notice, which is pure escapist fun and Breaking Bad, which is about the depths a good person can sink when confronted by a severe crisis. I agree with the poster who said Bryan Cranston is a genius actor. You can see the helplessness and rage in him. As an aside, Vince Gilligan, who worked on the X-Files is the creator of Breaking Bad.
Arrested Development and Dallas. My hubby and I are younger and are watching the series via dvd. That show was awesome! Actually, did the same thing with Remmington Steele and liked it quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm still a 24 fan, and really like Castle.
F me, I forgot about Laverne & Shirley....LOVE that show!!
ReplyDelete*also admitting to Buffy/Angel*
This is hard!!
oh, I forgot about Intervention and Hoarders. They are a very recent obsession.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Soup. Damn, I suck at this.
Kind of off-topic, but for YEARS while the show was on and afterwards, I loved Cheers. Like LOVED Cheers. About five years ago I was watching a re-run and that entire episode was about the patrons and staff learning that "someone" in the bar was gay and trying to figure out who it was so they could kick him out.
ReplyDeleteIt totally soured me on Cheers. I know it was a different time, but still..
1 - Monty Python's Flying Circus
ReplyDelete2 - Phineas & Ferb (this is a Disney cartoon. It's a blast. Watch it with your kids someday.)
Selena: More Flapjack love! My kids LOVE that show. It's so off the wall but so sweet and hilarious, all at once.
1. La Femme Nikita
ReplyDelete2. Chuck
Anon @ 3:46.......I used to love La Femme Nikita ( with Peta something....and her costar who played Michael....OMG....he really did it for me ....that was probably on about 15-20 years ago??? I don't think I was married yet...used to fantasize about Michael!) Ha!!!
ReplyDeleteNow: The Alaska Experiment, Survivorman, Antiques Roadshow, Big Bang Theory (BAZINGA!!!!!),Lost, Weeds....and the Real Housewives franchises....I know I am All over the place , but hey, it works for me!!
ReplyDeletePast: Ally McBeal, The Love Boat , Laverne & Shirley.......I am sure there are many more....But I am 40 with 2 kids....mostly cartoons on in my house until I go to bed!
Props to the person who said The Soup. I didn't consider that style of show but it is the BEST EVER.
ReplyDelete1 & 2: Friday Night Lights
ReplyDeleteSh*t, I forgot about Twin Peaks!
ReplyDeleteBur if I'm forgetting TV shows, I might as well include Bosom Buddies and Flamingo Road from way back.
@Mooshki--I was so pissed when Milennium tanked right before Y2K. I had no life outside of the confines of home at that time, and I had such high hopes for Chris Carter's creative output, and then *poof* nuthin'.
ReplyDeleteSucked.
@Lioness70--our grandkids don't like it at all. I'm convinced it's for adults, much like so may cartoons over the decades...thus the 9:00pm Har Har Tharsdays time slot!
ReplyDeleteWow Lost for both I guess.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there have been some REALLY great shows over the years.
Magnum P.I., In Search Of, Millenium, Witchblade, Touching Evil, Law and Order, The Equalizer, Miami Vice... I was WAY to into the tube when I was a teenager
Oooooh! Such a tough one. Of all time. OK...
ReplyDeleteOf all time: It's gotta be a tie --
The ORIGINAL 90210, X-Files and Saved by the Bell
Current: Grey's and 24
I forgot NCIS and Better Off Ted.
ReplyDelete1. Cheers, Homefront, Barney Miller, I Love Lucy, The Cowboys (I was 8). I can't decide.
ReplyDelete2. Big Bang Theory and Ghost Whisperer
Wait...Does anybody remember "Best of the West"? Loved that one too, but it didn't last long AT ALL, but it was FUNNY!
ReplyDeleteSorry, another one: Sha Na Na and Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley. Tuesdays were the BEST when I was 13.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I forgot La Femme Nikita, too. Roy Dupuis is beyond hot.

ReplyDelete1) Mystery Science Theater 3000
ReplyDeleteI watch the episodes on YouTube all the time. God I miss that show. I always "watch" an episode in my head when I need to be cheered up.
2) NCIS
I love Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly is hot.
Since someone mentioned 'The Soup,' this isn't really off-topic, right? Quote of the day, from Joel McHale:
ReplyDelete"This week the internet toilet was clogged with hearsay regarding a possible breakup between Brad and Angelina."
Best metaphor ever.
1 Buffy
ReplyDelete2 The Big Bang Theory
#1 LOST-Completely and utterly.
ReplyDeleteIm not a LOST spaz, but I love that show. So much so that I wrote to Jorge Garcia, and he tried my bath products :) Adore Him!
2# Since LOST isn't currently airing, I would say, The Office, Im formerly from Scranton, so it's fun watching the little things that remind me of home. Lest I forget the actors/Comedians on that show-dry witty humor ROCKS!
1 Moonlighting
ReplyDelete2 Bones
1. Office - BBC, Arrested Development, or SATC.. Funky spunk anyone?

ReplyDeleteCurrently it's three-way tie: 'Being Human'/'Dexter'/'True Blood.'
Johnny Carson, Love Boat, Carol Burnett, Andy Griffith, Golden Girls, Marcus Welby MD, Home Improvement, some of the old game shows Match Game, Hollywood Squares, Newlywed Game
ReplyDeleteI am not that fond of today's tv shows. I either watch the old ones in reruns or watch History,Discovery, Food Network, HGTV
1. Newsradio. I never get tired of watching this show.
ReplyDelete2. Glee and Mad Men
people, people, people..........
ReplyDeletethe golden girls has got to be one of the *WORST* tv shows ever. since when does rudeness = funny? that old ham of an actress doing heavy handed yiddish accents and delivery when she was supposed to be italian... UGH. not funny, not cute.
1. Arrested Development- I'm STILL upset that it got cancelled. Stupid FOX!!!
ReplyDelete2. LOST- can't wait for Tuesday!
It's so hard to list JUST one, Enty! :)
