What Do You Think?
When I was reading reports yesterday about former Playboy model Paula Sladewski's body being found burned beyond recognition in a trash can on a Miami street, I immediately thought her significant other did it. I don't know this, but I'm wondering what you think of his story. Here are the facts.
Paula and her boyfriend Kevin Klym went to a Lady GaGa party in Miami last weekend. At some point during the weekend they went to a bunch of bars where they both got drunk. At one of the bars, the couple got into a fight. Kevin was kicked out of the club, but his girlfriend was allowed to remain even though Kevin said she was too drunk.
Kevin then says he went back to their hotel room to wait for her. He waited there until the next morning and filed a missing persons report where he listed her profession as stripper and posted a bunch of flyers of her around town.
Later in the day police discovered the burning trash can and identified Paula through dental records.
Friends of the couple said they had a volatile relationship and Paula was actually charged with domestic violence last June.
Here is my speculation. Do you leave your girlfriend in a club all night and go back to your room? If she was so drunk wouldn't you at least wait until the club closed to make sure she was ok? No matter how much you have fought with someone are you really going to abandon them like that? It seems hard to believe that she got picked up at the club, left with someone and they killed her and then burned her. What if this boyfriend waited for her, confronted her, they got into another fight and things got out of hand? Maybe he accidentally killed her and then burned her. He then files the missing persons report and posts flyers around town. This will be an interesting case to follow. I would assume there are cameras in the club so it would show if she left with someone or not.
Seeing as most women are killed by men they know, more than likely, yeah, he did it. Sad. Two more lives wasted.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, from living in Miami and from being a nightclub drug person for a while, Club Space doesn't really close. Lots of times, the clubs stay open as long as they can, until noon or whenever. The patrons are so whacked on stimulants that they don't want to leave. I'm not saying that this proves the boyfriend didn't do it or anything, just that at most ecstasy and meth bars, it's not worth it to wait outside for your friends. They'll never come out.
ReplyDeleteHe posted "lost wife" flyers the next morning?
ReplyDeleteOh guilty as hell! If he wasn't, he'd have assumed a hook-up when she didn't return. He knew he had to cover, so he's covering - he's soooo covering.
Horrible.
The police will look at the boyfriend pretty hard because that's what the odds say and they already know who he is. But on the other hand she could have left the club with some creep and then things got out of control. Like Grissom always says, don't judge before the facts.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the police I'd concentrate on the boyfriend. In something like 70-80% of murders the people know each other and obviously "domestic" situations contribute significantly to that statistic. That still leaves 20% and the boyfriend is entitled to the presumption of innocence but you'd investigate him first.
ReplyDeleteI read that she had been beaten by her bf and she was scared of him. Let me see if I can find the article.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Boyfriend is POI #1 at this time, but they must investigate ALL options. A good investigation of the club surveilance tapes and any the hotel might have would help.

ReplyDeleteA Playboy model's body was found burned beyond recognition in a Dumpster in Miami -- and police are zeroing in on her boyfriend, about whom she once texted the message: "He's trying to kill me," according to a relative.
Paula Sladewski's stepfather, Richard Watkins, said he wasn't surprised when he learned that the boyfriend was named a person of interest in the murder discovered Sunday night.
"They had a horrible relationship," Watkins told FoxNews.com. "I have told them from the start that they shouldn't be together."
Watkins said Sladewski, 26, and her boyfriend, Kevin Klym, 34, argued often, and that Klym was arrested after breaking her nose. Sladewski, who appeared in the video "Playboy: The Ultimate Playmate Search," had been visiting Miami with Klym, who reported her missing.
Klym told police he got into an argument with her at a nightclub, and he was kicked out Sunday morning.
While your "boyfriend waited for her, confronted her, etc" theory sounds possible, let's remember they were both allegedly drunk, and people may not do the smartest things when they're drunk. i.e., mabe he did go back to the hotel, maybe there was someone else involved (if she was drunk, it's totally possible that she "hooked up" with someone else). I just like to believe in innocent until proven guilty.
ReplyDeleteNice Griisom quote looserdude!
He did it, but hopefully they can find some sort of DNA or fiber evidence.Thank god they have DNA!! It really clears up a lot of things. in the past lots of innocent people got railroaded because of association to the victim.
ReplyDeleteThis is creepily like that model who got killed by Ryan Jenkins last summer. They had been to a party the night before, had a fight and he said she took off/didn't know what happened to her. She too wound up in a dumpster. Sad.
ReplyDeleteIt's always the boyfriend or husband. Always. Amazing how common this this.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm still single ;-P I'm lonely but at least still alive
@Kate - yes, I was reminded of the same.
ReplyDeleteSo sad when women don't leave the women who abuse them. We don't know yet if he killed her, but if he did, there were so many signs.
My money's on the boyfriend. There's always the chance that it was someone else, but I'm liking him for this, as they would say on The Wire.
ReplyDeleteawful. it's almost always the bf or hubby.
ReplyDeleteHe did it. How did he know she was already missing? And why didn't he call the cops? Why did he put the flyers out...because he knew she was already 'missing'.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem like he did, if he was drunk and angry, I don't think its unusual he'd leave her, people get into fights and walk out on each other all the time. I don't think it means he killed her. And how do you accidently burn someone?
ReplyDeletecouple things...gaga's new yr's party @ the fontainebleau was really small and tame by industry standards (even by fountainbleau/eden roc standards), so i'm impressed the model and her bf were on the list, unless they opened it to paying patrons at the last minute...that aside, to cross over from that section of mid-beach to the lower design district on the mainland where club space is, is a nice little taxi jaunt. if you're gonna do that, then by all means stay on the beach and go to the trendier clubs on the south end (bed, mynt, mansion, set...there are a zillion to choose from), as opposed to the seedy euro drug den that is space. she's not the first death related to space...others have been murdered and gone missing from there, but i hesitate to blame the bf...he was probably as high as she was, and being a tourist, was most likely disoriented in what to do.
ReplyDeletefurther, per new reports, she wasn't a playboy model...her sister said she did a lot of castings, playboy included, but she only landed minor print jobs. the family refers to her as an 'aspiring model', and says that her last job was as a stripper, so i don't see where the bf was lying on that.
in any case, it's a sad thing all around. her body was found in a hoodrat area w/ a high homocide rate...i can't imagine what that family must be going thru. condolences are definitely in order. rip.
Where's David Caruso when you need him?
ReplyDeleteThe boyfriend's story should be pretty easy to pick apart is he's lying. There should be cameras both outside the club and both in and outside of the hotel. If the police seized it immediately (so it wouldn't be taped over, as most record in a loop) they should be able to tell if his timeline is accurate, if he went back to the hotel alone when he said he did and left again when he said he did, as well as who he was with. Also, club security should be able to verify in in fact they did kick this guy out alone.
Pookie - Do you have any more info on the other missing/murder victims from the club? That really puts an interesting spin on this...
ReplyDelete(Sorry, I'm a sucker for true crime mysteries... Been watching too many initial shows!)
Wouldn't you call friends and family first if you were really looking for someone? Why would you assume she was missing? Maybe she went to stay with a friend or got another room.
ReplyDeleteSomething ain't right.
I agree the scenario and boyfriend sound shady. BUT just becasue the boyfriend left her at the club after he was kicked out, means he is automatically guilty. I have been in situations where jerk off drunk boyfriends get in a fight with their GF, their egos inflate and they take off. I do agree anyone that leaves a girlfriend at a club is not a prince cahrming....but unfortunately it happens and doesn't mean a murder is apparent.
ReplyDeleteI also agree w Barton Fink - Miami clubs stay open early into the next day. I'm doubtful the boyfriend was in his right mind at the time..maybe he went back to the room to "re-up" ??
He's guilty...what's up with the missing posters the next day? Now, if she had been gone several days I could see it, but the next day? After a fight, a non-guilty guy would assume she's with a friend or hooked up with another guy. He was a little too eager to create a story.
ReplyDeleteSorry i meant to say "doesn't mean he is automatically guilty".
ReplyDeletehe did it.
ReplyDeleteCaroline...club space is a raver's paradise. it's known for its ties to corrupt law enforcement who take bribes for turning a blind eye to the drug scene there...most recent scandal was this past october, when a dj for the club got into a fight w/ his gf, took off, choked her to death, and rode around w/ her dead body in the front passenger seat of the car. he went from friend's house to friend's house re-telling what he had done before finally turning himself in. it's also known for being the last place underage teens and druggies have been seen before turning up dead on some cocaine runner's yacht, or never being heard from again. bad vibe place, i tell you.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was weird that he posted flyers the next day.
ReplyDelete@Karmen - oh how I miss The Wire!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that she was burned "beyond recognition" seals it for me that the boyfriend did it. If the murderer is just some random attacker, why burn her? If it's the boyfriend, burning her would presumably cover up evidence or her identity (both of which could tie her death to the boyfriend).
ReplyDeletethis is an easy case, and i imagine the police know what happened already. besides cameras at the club, there are probably some at the hotel too. they'll know if he went back to his room when he says he did. doubt he did.
ReplyDeletei bet scott peterson wishes he'd thought to burn lacy's body. it's the popular way these days to destroy evidence and sadly, it works real well.
There was Scott Peterson with his BS story about his wife and another killer similar to Peterson's case can't remember but also a BS story about his wife missing.
ReplyDeleteEven though this case they aren't married their is a possibility that he is giving a BS story to get away with murder.
nancer,
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started on Scott Peterson.
@Rocket Queen - I LOVE The Wire! Not just cause I live in Bmore, but it's absolutely awesome. I meet Kima this past summer!
ReplyDeletewhoa, pookie----twisted and disturbing to say the least.
ReplyDeletesome drugs can be bad kids.
I read the police had already cleared the boyfriend. Anyway, the guilty party is usually the last person to see the victim alive, or the person who finds the body.
ReplyDeletePookie- I think it was open to the public b/c I know at least 4 people that went to the show.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I'm not so sure he did it.
ReplyDeleteThey were not from Miami, they were visiting from out of state. They went to the party saturday, he called her family, and didn't put the posters up until Monday after he called them and reported her missing. If it was an overnight hookup, she would have returned to the hotel at some point before then. I can see putting up fliers if you're out of town and she is potentially going to miss the flight back home.
Also, not being from the area, how would he have been able to locate a somewhat discrete place to burn the body? I would think that would indicate someone familiar with the area.
From the reports, yeah he sounds like a dick and could have it in him, but I'm still on the fence on this one.
I don't think he would have stayed outside the club. If he was really drunk, they bouncers may have tossed him off the property entirely, including the parking lot. And if they got into an altercation, him looming outside may not have made her feel any better.
jw12...i think you're right...it's just that the peeps i know that went to it are industry folks, so i wasn't certain if the event had gone public...
ReplyDeleteanonymous, ita w/ you...there's no way a tourist would know how to get to and from that ghetto area where her body was found w/o local 'help'.
I have to say that in a drunken fight situation, it is not really surprising that this guy didn't check up on her. Sadly, there are a lot of people out there who don't seem to care enough about their partners and we read stories in the tabloids all the time about couples who do insane things (big ego's, lots of money, drugs, alcohol, mental problems). Hell, it's not just the tabloids... This is a really sad story. No one should go out like this.
ReplyDeleteI say look at the person who called in about the dumpster.
ReplyDeleteJudging by the pic, it doesn't seem like the building next to it (metal garage doors) and the metal gate would be in any danger of catching fire.
@john - you have also just described Tila Tequila ;)
ReplyDeleteThe police can also check his keycard at the hotel to see what time he entered his room, etc.
ReplyDeleteAs are several of you, I'm still on the fence on this one. Normally I would say he did it, but right now I'm not so entirely sure.
Wait. He filed the police report in the morning and then they found her burning body in the afternoon? Or was it the other way around? This post is a little confusing.
ReplyDeleteGood one Pookie.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmmm. Will have to wait to have an opinion on this one.
ReplyDeleteAs the mother of 2 daughters, these kind of stories just make me sick. If I've taught them nothing else, I hope they understand that you never have to put up with a man hitting you. If he does- run and never look back. So sad.
ReplyDeletethe police have not cleared the BF. don't know who said that but it's not what i'm reading.
ReplyDeleteat the very least, this is a good reason not to beat up your girlfriend. if anything happens to her, you WILL be suspect number one.
It's one thing for hoodrats to kill someone, but would they waste time burning the body?
ReplyDeleteOkay enough already with the hoodrat and ghetto nonsense. Its getting a bit ridiculous. That is all, Thx.
ReplyDeleteSTFU @6:06.
ReplyDeleteYou're the ridiculous one, playing PC Nazi. Hood is hood, ghetto is ghetto. The dead girl wasn't found on Rodeo Drive. Let the readers call it as they see it.
Dumb ass.
She was from metro detroit area..... Maybe it was a rape/murder?
ReplyDeleteHmm...I figured it was the boyfriend. I guess we'll have to see.
ReplyDeleteHorrible story though...
Strangers are less likely to stick around and mutilate the body, a stranger would have just dumped her and gotten away quickly. It takes an angry man trying to cover up what he did to disfigure or burn the person.
ReplyDeleteStrippers make bad relationship decisions?
I live in North Miami, about a mile from where her body was found. The area is industrial with service industry warehouses and far off the beaten path of a tourist from Michigan. In fact, if you were going to just dump/burn a body in a dumpster, there are many of them much closer to the club. The body was definitely dumped by a local. Doesn't mean the boyfriend wasn't involved but if he did it, he had local help.
ReplyDeleteNew video from bar shows her leaving at 7am or so with an unidentified black man.

Probably not the boyfriend\\
