A show of hands here who think Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez are the same dress size. Yeah, I don't see any hands either. In an interview with 10, Victoria says she and Jennifer are the same dress size. "Actually, the one I tried on yesterday was the one Jennifer wore. And who'd have thought I'd be the same size as Jennifer Lopez!"
Umm, I don't think anyone would have thought it. I think she could try on all the dresses in the world that Jennifer Lopez wears but I don't think the reverse is going to hold true. Is this so we stop saying how skinny Victoria is? Maybe enough people will say she is the same size as Jennifer Lopez and the world would believe it? I think she should have gone up in increments. Start with a twig, then a thin branch, then Calista Flockhart. Baby steps. You can't go straight from twig to Jennifer. It doesn't work.

Victoria's dresses are a massive rip-off of the designer Roland Mouret. I think she took some of his employees when she started her firm. It's hard to tell which dresses are hers and which are his - except that his came first.

I don't think Victoria Beckham and J-Lo are the same size...but remember that Oprah episode where she had 10 women that were all size 10 line up next to each other in the same outfit. 2 people who wear the same size clothing could have really different bodies. That's why it's so hard to find clothes that fit you properly.

ReplyDeleteThat is like those diet commercials where someone says "I lost 20 pounds and 4 dress sizes" and I'm like "where the fuck are you going where 20 pounds is 4 dress sizes?" Or when bigger celebrities talk about their "before" selves and say "I was ginormous! I was 150 pounds and so unhappy." And show you a picture where they are CLEARLY pushing 300---unless they are 3 feet tall.

In a way that sort of thing is just as harmful as what we were talking about the other day, how the magazine photoshopped whichever Kardashian just had the kid to make it look like she was totally back in shape. Some poor chick works her butt off to lose 20 lb., then feels like a total failure when she only goes down one size.

She probably wasn't lying. VB definitely could try on and wear JLo's dress. The quote is not JLo saying that she tried on and fit one of VB's dresses. Any small person could fit into a size 8 but not any size 8 person could fit into a 0 or 2. She's just using trickery and proving to be smarter that I'd expected. Well played Posh, well played.

hey guys, i worked in clothing retail for a long time and i would always have customers complaining about sizing and not being able to find stuff that fits. i know this isn't exactly on topic but i saw a few comments that reminded me of those days. there are only two rules to finding clothing that fits:
ReplyDelete1) TRY, TRY, TRY IT ON! there are no industry standards when it comes to sizing, that's why i can wear a 4 at banana republic and a 10 at forever 21. NEVER get hung up on sizes - it's just a number on a label! I would have customers fall in love with an item but refuse to buy it because it ran small and they would have to try on a larger size. that's just silly! the most important thing to remember when trying to find clothes that fit is you'll have to be willing to try lots of stuff on. also, mix it up! things look very different on a hanger so don't judge before you've tried it. i always take at least one thing into the fitting room that i wouldn't normally try - you'd be surprised!
2) NIP/TUCK IT! tailors are your best friends ever. there are waaaaay too many body types for things to fit everyone like a glove, that's why there are tailors. expensive stores often provide it for free, but i take my cheap stuff to a tailor which is still cheaper than buying expensive clothing. (i'm VERY cheap when it comes to clothes but i love shopping and fashion)
now get out there and hit some sales!

I think that for some strange reason unknown to us, Posh was sucking up to JLo. Or was having a laugh at JLo's expense because it is so patently untrue. (I like scenario #2!)

Incidentally, Posh looks soooo much better since she had those horrible implants replaced!

sunnyside123 - JLo is standing next to the smallest woman in the world. Put her next to a regular person her same height and you'd see she is quite small.

Her "who'd have thought it" comment might get taken the wrong way by J.Lo...who might then get all Pwer-oh-Reecan on a bitch's ass for going there.

ReplyDeleteSecond Ballyhoo's comment! I also work in retail and the other thing I see is that people REFUSE to go up or down a size. Some size 0's are convinced that they're an 8, and vice versa. ASK the salesperson - is this fitting me correctly? Should I go up or down a size? Any good salesperson will help you find something that fits and flatters.
