Unluckiest American Idol Contestant Ever?

Do you know the odds of making it to Hollywood week on American Idol? They are not that great. Angela Martin made it back in 2007 and while there learned her father had been murdered. She couldn't focus and was cut in the second round. In 2008 Angela decided to try again and made it to the Top 50 but had to drop out of the show because she had to appear before a judge regarding a speeding ticket she had never paid. So, this year rolls around and Angela is in her last year of eligibility because an American Idol can't be older than 28. We like our Idols young. Bastards. Anyway, Angela has made it as least as far as Hollywood week again, and now she has found out her mother is missing back in Illinois and hasn't been seen since the day after Christmas. Her car was found abandoned. Oh, and to top all of this off, Angela's daughter has Rett Syndrome. Watch her video below. She is at about the two minute mark.

  1. Poor girl. While the situation doesn't sound good, I do hope her mother is found safe.

  2. sounds to me like she has far more pressing matters than being on 'american idol.'

is she just finding out her mom's been missing for a month??

sorry, i just get weary of the sob stories on AI.

  3. My wife was in a car accident last night. Prayers please. Seriously, but not deadly. She's sleeping while I sit here beside here browsing this damn website. I needed a fuckin' distraction. I'm on hour 29 of no sleep. bah.

  9. Good thoughts to you, Ryan, and to this contestant. I remember seeing her on AI twice - that shit-ass luck.

That being said, I hate hearing the sob stories on AI, too - only because then I feel horrible that they probably won't win.

  10. Sorry to hear that, Ryan.

  12. Ryan hope your wife is ok!

On another note, this chick needs to stop auditioning for AI so bad stuff stops happening to her.

  13. hugs to you and your family!

And I'm glad to see someone brought up George Wendt! Made me smile too.

  20. @ryan - i hope your wife makes a full and speedy recovery!! hang in there!

poor girl! i can't imagine what her family is going through, i hope they find her mom alive and well - soon.

it's a shame she won't be able to try out again for idol, although this story will probably give her enough press to launch something out of it, or at least i hope so. she does have a pretty voice.

  21. Aww, I'm sending prayers to your wife for a speedy recovery.

Now go take a nap. At least one of you has to have the energy to take care of the other. :)

Regarding the AI contestant perhaps she needs to try something different. AI is obviously bad karma for her.

  22. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way, Ryan. I'm sure your wife is very glad to have you by her side.

  25. Ryan, sorry about your wife...I, too, hope she makes a speedy recovery.

You really need to get shut-eye though!!

  26. oh ryan, so sorry. thoughts and prayers going out for you both.

and this poor girl...it's either a sign that she needs to forget AI, or that her persistence will pay off. have no clue which it might be. so sad.

  27. hope all turns out well Ryan...take care and get some sleep

  28. I'm sorry Ryan. Sending her lots of good wishes.

The 28 age limit is stupid. I think they just picked it because they know anyone over that age probably has enough life experience and self-confidence not to let them pull their usual exploitative shit.

  29. Best of luck Ryan! And I do hope the poor girl finds her mother. And her mother's teeth.

  30. Sending good wishes to your wife and you, Ryan. Hope you're able to get some sleep.

I have a friend who lived in Dallas for a few years (moved for a relationship) and all of this bad stuff (injuries, crime, awful situations, etc.) kept happening to her. She moved, thank God, because the city was bad karma for her. I feel deeply for this contestant, but I believe that this show is bad karma for her. She needs to step away.

  31. She has a nice voice but nothing really diffrent then any singer in a church.

Hope she makes it to at least the final 12 this time.

  32. I'm praying for Ryan and Mrs. Ryan. I called George Wendt and he's with you man.

I taught at a small private school that I believe was cursed. In three years out of a student and staff population of about 500, one staff member died, we lost two students, two parents, several staff family members and one miscarriage caused by a sick student. That's only the deaths. Every day brought another tragedy and the school ended up closing it's door for good.

Some thing are not meant to be.

Ryan -- wishing your wife a speedy recovery and you the strength to help her through.

  34. Ryan, I'll be praying for your wife and I hope she gets better soon. It's difficult to sleep when you're worried, but try to so you can be strong for her. I'm sure she appreciates knowing that you're there.

I also hope they find Angela's Mom. I think appearing on AI will end her bad karma and help her find success.

  35. Exactly what Mooshki said--get better soon wishes to Mrs. Ryan, and the 28-age limit is a crock.

  37. Prayers, Ryan.

I also feel terrible and am praying for this poor girl.

  38. I'm sending CDAN luv your way, too, Ryan. I hope your wife is healthy soon!

Not to be flip, but like Norm from Cheers, it's a dog-eat-dog world, and this AI woman is wearing Milk Bone underwear.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ryan , you and yours are in my prayers as well.

I really hope that Angela wins now. If she is one of the best and has a chance I'll make my first call to AI and try to give her a push.

Life is hard and she's doing her best to make it better. Money would definitely help ease her daughter's condition with good treatments.

  40. My little man and I send wishes for a speedy recovery to your wife Ryan!

  41. Ryan--adding to everyone's wishes for you and your wife! I remember what it's like when you spend all your time in a hospital room next to someone's bed...it's like the world outside disappears, and your entire reality is in that room. Make sure you get up every now and then, move around a little (walk down the hall a bit & back if you feel comfy stepping away) and make sure to try and get some reasonably healthy food into yourself once in a while. Naturally, caffeine is your friend, but water is too. Take care!

  42. @ Ryan....I am praying for you and your wife. Try to get some sleep, and my best to you both.

  43. Ryan--more good thoughts for you and your wife. *hug* Take care of yourself, try to get some sleep, and make it a point to eat some decent food--the Con (convention) Rule I've always heard is 5-2-1--5 hours of continuous sleep, 2 real meals, and 1 shower daily in order to be functional, and God knows sitting by a loved one's bedside is a lot more stressful than hanging out w/people dressed as Storm Troopers and hobbits. ;-) Oh, and when your wife is feeling better, she'll be BORED out of her mind, so start thinking about ways to keep her from going stir-crazy during her convalescence--I speak as something of an (unwitting) authority on such things, from the patient's perspective.

  44. Ryan, I'm sorry about your wife. I'm praying for her.

This poor contestant... maybe this is God or fate's way of saying that American Idol is not meant to be. I hope her luck turns around.

  45. Damn, poor chick - I hope they find her mom soon. It sucks for her to come so far & be derailed each time...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Prayers for Ryan and Mrs. Ryan. Maybe George Wendt makes house calls?

    we should check on that.

Seriously, though, please take care of yourself. The caretaker often feels like they *should'nt* but you really have to take a break/sleep, too!
