Haiti Update

Like probably many of you I have been watching the reports from Haiti all day. This is one of the most tragic things I have seen and the country was so poor to begin with and has so many issues that this seems extra cruel. Most of the news anchors are arriving there now and this report is from Brian Williams earlier today.

  1. thank you for this, enty!!!

    would just like to add:

    also...

The Red Cross is taking donations via text messages. Text the word HAITI to the number 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts. It'll show up on your phone bill. Or donate online at RedCross.org.

  2. Early this morning the report was that planes couldn't even land because the control tower had collapsed at the airport. I'm relieved to see that the press and hopefully the Red Cross are able to come in.

I've been through some good shakers here in SoCal over the years, but (most of) our buildings can withstand it.

  3. Thanks for mentioning this. It is easy to forget those who have it so much unfortunate than us. How interesting it is that the post before this is about a Hollywood nobody who makes money off of being nobody and spends all of her money on plastic surgery. She is on the cover of People magazine.

Thanks so much for putting things in perspective Enty. My thoughts and prayers are with all of those poor people over there.

Perhaps the Gadaffi's can put together a benefit concert with Beyonce, JayZ and the rest...

  5. Thanks for posting, Enty. While we come here for entertainment, for something this devastating you can't ignore it.

Also - Well said Pookie, as those are two wonderful organizations who you can trust will take care of those who need it.

  6. Thanks Pookie! I just donated via text. What a really simple, smart, easy way to donate.

And thanks to IceAngel for reminding me of the absurdity of celebrity... that Beyonce/JayZ sing for terror insanity.

  7. Top end estimate of the death toll is around 500,000. Haiti has a population of 9 million, so we are taking about 5% of the population. This will be devastating for years to come.

  11. The images and stories out of Haiti are gut-wrenching. I heard the prison collapsed, and if there weren't enough troubles, escaped prisoners are now looting.

I'm donating thru Unicef and Oxfam.

  15. Oh dear God, if Pat Robertson said something that hateful and disgusting, I pray he burns in eternal hell (which his sorry ass is destined for, anyway).

  16. Eff Pat Robertson, seriously. I'm NOT a violent person but that makes me want to take a baseball bat to his head.

  17. Pat Robertson needs to shut his no good mouth. It's like Thumper's mama said in Bambi, if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. That saying especially holds true in a crisis of this magnitude.

    I'm praying for Hati too.

  19. He's just so damn ignorant, it sickens me to think that someone who's supposed to be so butt-fuckin holy like is so hateful.

  20. I hope the governments of the world DO NOT give the money to their government but to the non-profits on the island. Their government is totally corrupt. My dad goes down once a year for mission work and it's the only place that I don't travel with him. He said the conditions are horrible, so I can only imagine what these people are going through. It saddens me.

FYI the Haitians played a Bigger part for us in the American Revolution than we give them credit for. We need to help them-just not by giving money to their government.

  21. I have been plaster to MSNBC all day. It is just horrifying .. Godspeed to the people taken in this horrific disaster.

I am very very thankful .. for the first time EVER .. that we have Guantanamo Bay and there was at least one Coast Guard cutter able to speed to Haiti by this late morning. I hope the rest of our folks can get down there quickly with heavy machinery and medical aid to save as many as possible from the rubble.

  22. Good job, Pookie, on posting the info to donate to the Red Cross. I did my $10 donation earlier today. In case anyone doesn't read through all the comments, here's the info again: you can text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti.

  23. We are waiting for news of close friends that landed to do missionary work less than 4 hours before it hit

  24. and the country was so poor to begin with and has so many issues that this seems extra cruel.

That's what gets me so much with this - they are so, so poor. So poor. Now this...to say it's unfair seems like, not enough, you know?

Ashli - that is horrible. I hope you receive some good news soon. ♥

  25. My hubby set something up to his company to get all their customers and employees to donate and they hope to raise $100k, at least.

Really puts things in perspective when something like this happy at how truly blessed and lucky I am to live here. Prayers to everyone there.

@ Ashli - Prayers your way for your friends as well.
