FASHION OR FICTION: Over-The-Knees, Please! - Adrianna Costa

Fashion is like an unpredictable boyfriend. He LOVES you…he ditches you…he vows never to see you again…and then comes calling months down the road…just when you FINALLY thought you were over him!
Come on ladies, you all know what I’m talking about. Well, sadly, the same is true with fashion. Trends always seem to come full circle. Case in point; Over-The-Knee-Boots. For years we’ve been told thigh-highs are designed for one place and one place only….the corner of Hollywood Boulevard. Ladies, I’m hear to tell you to ditch your old way of thinking. It’s time to fall in love again!!!

HOW TO WEAR OVER-THE-KNEE BOOTS:
Here are a couple quick tips: Keep your look streamlined. Avoid mixing and matching too many colors and designs. Since the boots are your showpiece, so to speak, keep everything else simple.

FASHION: In my opinion, Kate Hudson can do no wrong when it comes to style. Her look is (as usual) effortless with a fitted top with skinny jeans tucked into a pair of over-the-knee boots..LOOK FOR LESS: To rock-out like K Hud, check out these nifty little over-the-knee flats called Blondee, for less than $100 at www.stevemadden.com
PS- There is an entire section devoted to over-the-knee boots!Beware: If you’re vertically-challenged (like me) stay away from the flat boots. Instead, opt for a heel (preferably 4 inches or higher) so you don’t get swallowed up.

FASHION: Check out Audrina’s look. She nailed it at the 2009 MTV Awards.LOOK FOR LESS: You can score your own sexy thigh-highs a la Audrina at www.stevemadden.com With a price tag less than $100, you can’t beat that.FICTION: Thigh-highs are fierce…but not in white. Linds, those boots are about as classy as…(I’ll let you fill in the blank) Come on, chica, you know better!!FICTION: Posh is not much better. Because she’s so tiny and her boots are so…not tiny, she must downplay the rest of the look to draw attention to just the boots.
Is it me or does that dress look like road-kill??

Note from Enty - No money is being exchanged. No consideration is being offered. Adrianna just tries to find the look for less.

  1. Love over-the-knee boots. I'm just cheap, and I'm worried they won't be around long enough for them to be a good investment.

  3. ACTUALLY I HAVE A PAIR...THEY WERE MY MOM'S FROM THE 80'S...

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love them but I am a big girl size 12 with chunky thighs. How can I wear thigh high boots without looking like meatball in boots?

    ReplyDelete
  5. thank you, i have been trying to find a pair under 100 bucks! i don't care if it's an ad, i want cheap boots and now i know where to find them.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sorry, I have to do this... I'm 'here' to tell you, not 'hear'...
And I love the look of OTK boots. Definitely not in white though. And a pair with 4" or higher heels would most probably put you in the "standing on the corner of Hollywood Blvd" department. Case in point: Audrina and Posh... Just sayin'...

    ReplyDelete
  7. oh man, i think i have that same problem, i would also look a little bit meatballish!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I don't care who makes them, what they're made of or who's wearing them - over the knee boots are cheap looking. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  9. and by the way, adrianna - lindsay most certainly does NOT know better.

    ReplyDelete
  10. DSW is usually pretty good... almost time for boots to go on sale!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah. I have CALVES so even under-the-knee boots that fit are difficult to find.
I had to laugh at Kate Hudson as a paragon of style. I must respectfully disagree. She often looks very sloppy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. okb---

best kept on street corner. all i think of is julia roberts in pretty woman.

and she even looked classier than most anyone else in them.

    especially kate hudson.

  13. *grumbly sigh. :-/

    Trying to write something nice................................................................

(5 minutes later) I can't wait until the next gossip article :-)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sorry but ... WRONG. OTK boots are not classic, they are Pretty Woman-style streetwalker gear. This is a trend that is LA-only. Thankfully. OTK boots are on par with lucite heels, strippers & Playboy bunnies.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bollocks, if I want fashion, I will go to The Sartorialist. Back to gossip, please.

  16. * goes to sit next to Anna.

What a piece of shit column. Are ya'll sleeping together and this is your way to thank her or something? How stupid. Even PErez is smart enough to put his fashion write ups on an whole new blog.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm on board with the fashion as long as we get to make fun of Posh and Linds.

I am a boot freak and they do tend to come back. I have an old pair of OTK boots from 1993 but they would look silly on the playground and at the mom 2 mom meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If you don't like it, don't read it, people!

I have a hard time finding regular boots that fit my calves, and as a woman of the somewhat rotund variety, I can't pull of OTK boots at all.

But you know what else is back in style? FUCKING LEGWARMERS, MAN!
    Love them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oooh them Steve Maddens are the BIZZZZNESSS lol
Yeah white thigh highs belong in two places, on a corner in Hollywood Blvd or on a stripper pole lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. @HH- Legwarmers are really coming back in style? That's so weird, cause my friend just said how she doesn't want them to come back in. Sucks for her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would look like Ms. Pac-Man in those boots.

    That's not a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. chopchop, I agree. I can't look at OTK boots without thinking of Pretty Woman and, IMO, Audrina looks like a sparkly prostitute with those boots.

Sure, they're sexy in certain...ehm....intimate situations, but, for the most part, I think they look like hooker heels. Not classic, not pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think Kate looks good in the boots (but certainly not always). I think when deciding what sort of trend to wear, one has to consider where one is going to wear them. I frequent local bars, restaurants, etc. in my Chicago neighborhood. The boots are just not appropriate for my milieu. In LA or NY, I think they can totally rock (if worn the right way with a paired down outfit).

And here's a shout out to Jewels - THANK YOU for pointing out the error!! Why is it that people don't know how to spell or write these days???

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh dear. I know I'll get my knuckles smacked, but.....

It's not only fashion advice, it's bad fashion advice.

    and bad writing.

    (Sitting with Anna and Lisa)

Waiting for the blinds today...maybe I'll check out what's happening on the other blind sites...and anyone noticed that TMZ seems to have practically stopped posting?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I trust just about anyone's fashion sense over mine. I'm not only vertically challenged but horizontally spacious. Over the knee boots would make me look like a meatball on a stick.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oops - did I use the word "paired" correctly? I should slap my own wrist if not!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous12:47 PM

I see thigh-high boots and can think of only one thing: Julia Roberts storing condoms in hers in Pretty Woman. End of story.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous12:52 PM

Fashion post? Really? With all due respect please tell us this isn't a permanent thing. At least bring a writer that knows how to use spellcheck.

    ReplyDelete
  30. oh middle aged diva (i hope you at least read this) I have noticed!

I never used to check them out, then this whole Elin thing happened (or tiger thing, whatever you want to call it) and i realized they dont update their site! I mean, they used to be spitting out updates but now - nothing... what is going on there?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, whatever, I don't mind the fashion posts!! It's only a post, it's not like she's writing a book!!

Thanks for the tip on the Steve Madden boots, I'm pretty tall & I need flat boots!

    ReplyDelete
  32. OTK boots can look very elegant and classic, it just depends on the boots and who is wearing them. There was an old photo of Gloria Guiness (socialite) from 1964 wearing the most gorgeous pair of thigh-high Gucci boots over some slim fitting slacks with a mid-thigh length tunic and wide, leather Gucci belt, and she looked timeless and amazing. Audrina el al will always just look like they should be hanging out on a sleazy street corner waiting for clients.

Jbdean_79 just to lazy to sign in on the bb.

I'm all about shoes with some personality, but it does edge into hoochie territory.

Unlike plain stripper heels (sandals, pumps, etc, which you can mute with some conservative clothing) they kinda scream HEY CHECK OUT THE CONDOM STASH! (As 1244 said). Yeah maybe they can be okay on certain occasions, but, eh...

And like most everyone else has said, there is no room for any real leg. I can't find under knee boots that fit right either. And I'm average, size 6! But god forbid I have calves and some curves!

Overall a very limited fashion piece reserved for stick figures in LA, stick 'em back in the closet with the peg leg jeans, hobo chic look, spandex, and leg warmers. *shudder*

Don't mind the fashion piece, but keep in mind, LA style doesn't really translate for the majority of the readers. We are not 90lb coke heads who are willing to put on whatever our equally coked out "stylists" tell us thinks looks FABULOUS! We're a little too sober to buy that shit. Hell! That's why we come here! For the snarky realistic perspective on those idiots!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just brought a pair of thigh hair suede high heeled boots...and i love it alot....really great w/ a mini sweater dress and tights...

wtf is victoria beckham wearing? sweet lord.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous1:53 PM

    ReplyDelete
  37. @linnea: Yeah, TMZ is a mystery. They were right ON the Michael Jackson story, broke it. They really had the Tiger updates, too.

And then, it's like they all went on vacation!

First I thought it was the holidays, and then it just flat stopped for huge hunks of time...radaronline is where it's at for me now.

Ok so here's another question: What exactly does Fashion or Fiction mean? Fashion and Fiction are not opposites. It's like she picked two "F" words that had nothing to do with each other.

Might as well have said "Fashion or Flatulence?" "Fashion or Furballs" "Fashion or Frankfurters" "Fashion or F-Up"

I'm havin' too much fun. ANOTHER F word!

Man, these "celebs" with literary pretentions!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed with Anna, MIddle-Aged Queen et al. For me this is really off the mark in terms of a style editorial, and I also think Kate Hudson looks dreadful - the shirt's not a fitted shirt at all, but rather a sheer f'ing tunic (which is classic KH - she is fucking desperado and lacks a basic kind of dignity.)

At least Victoria Beckham commits fully to her outre looks! She has the courage of her convictions if nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Argh, I meant "Middle-Aged Diva." Doy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Beware: If you’re vertically-challenged (like me) stay away from the flat boots. Instead, opt for a heel (preferably 4 inches or higher) so you don’t get swallowed up."

So Enty, you are wearing 4+ inch heels?

    ReplyDelete

    wtf nobody cares
    start your own blog adrianna

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't imagine anyone over 30 could pull this off. I know I couldn't.

I'd prefer to hear inside scoop from Adrianna and get fashion advice from the Fug girls, they ROCK!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous2:23 PM

Adrianna's last name- Fashion or Fiction. I find these fashion columns stupid, but what I really want to know is why Adrianna changed her last name to a latina sounding name even though she is not latina. Was it to be more "in fashion" to have a latin sounding last name rather than her jewish one???????????

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous2:25 PM

really, what does this have to do with crazy celeb gossip? I am about to check out of here. I can read the blinds over at dlisted when posted and all those photos the suckers on here paid for I can see all over the net. shit is sinking low and fast around here.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh jeez guys, don't be mean to Adrianna. I think this fits into the spirit of CDAN, and her writing is funny too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. gaaahhh! who farking cares?! skip over it or read it!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah I've been fighting with myself as to whether or not to just stop coming here. =/ Guess it won't harm enty if I do.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous2:47 PM

WTH is Enty doing! WHY IS he so hellbent on sending this blog to hell in a handbasket? What makes this wannabe actress suddenly a fashion maven? Bring back his gossip and his snark, I don't come here for this bitch I come here for Enty and his (formerly) FUN blog. For so many of us it's a great break in our work day. STOP FUCKING THAT UP FOR US! This fashion bullshit is giving the whole blog a vibe I just aint liking. Please don't tell me to "Leave", I love this blog and I adore Enty, but this is way effed up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm joining this week's No Thanks corner. This column is so wtf.

Also, if you're guest-writing on someone else's blog, wouldn't you have a copy editor look your piece over? Especially if you are trying to write about fashion professionally as her forays into women's mag columns suggest? "I'm hear to tell you..."? And is he/him *fashion* or a *fashion trend*?

    ReplyDelete
  50. this column totally throws off the vibe of this blog....I can read this stuff anywhere...gossip only puhhhleeezzeeee.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry...I thought this was written by Enty. Guess he isn't in 4+ inch hells after all.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @ Genesis, I would miss your insightful comments. Please don't go.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think what's going to happen is that traffic on CDAN will stay the same, because we'll still check in to see what's happening. It just won't be as much fun.

I have to say that more than any other entertainment blog, this one does have more of a "community" of gossip fans, a better spirit and some of the most incisive and witty commentary of any gossip site. I'm sorry to see ENTY fool around with a good thing, because really, it's us that will suffer by not having as much fun. I just don't see traffic will drop that much.

As far as those people who paid for the pictures: they have great heart. But it was a really strange solicitation and it (and the pix it paid for) is just one more marker in the deterioration of this blog.

Saying all that, I'm here and checking in. But am spending more time at Dlisted and the other gossip aggregators.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous3:08 PM

@2:23 - About the name thing, she's Mexican on both sides (yes there are Mexican people with Hebrew names). She obviously identifies with her culture so no diss there.

I do diss her for acting like she knows shit about fashion. Adrianna please go back to trying to be an actress. I'm sure there's an audition somewhere you can go to.

Also, yeah BIG AMEN to those saying the blog's vibe isn't the same. I prefer Enty be honest with us if it's to much for him and he has to hire outside writers. I still love him, I just want the blog back to how it was. 2010 is sucking at CDAN.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I live in the Midwest and any attempts at being fashionable here are wasted on these yokels.

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ Caroline...I too lived in the midwest for years. It's so flat in so many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Uh-Kate Hudson as a style icon? No flippin' way! I'm willing to try out these new fashion entries but so far I just feel like they are messing up my quality CDAN time...

    ReplyDelete
  58. sunny, this blog has lost it's pizzazz for me, I'll check in everyday just not comment as much, too weird and I'll only be negative lol y'all dont need that

    ReplyDelete
  59. I guess I dont care much for the fashion part either because I spent the most time wondering how Posh manages to stay alive. Severe eating disorders used to kill people. They must have gotten better at it or something.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous4:47 PM

Boo Fucking Boo. Yeah you need to hit those Hwood auditions more often and start your own blog.

    ReplyDelete
  61. She has her own blog, it's just full of pics and not much else

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wow. Snark from the masses is in overdrive today. Relax, people.

I do have to say there's not much that can make over-the-thigh boots look classy and not trashy. Maybe it's a look meant only for LA? I'll stick with knee-high or lower, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous7:10 PM

Ugh, this column is such garbage. Thanks for the top picture, I'm sure its to either remind us all of who exactly it is you are...or, as I suspect, to feed your massive ego. Seriously, who starts out a post with their own picture?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Dingo7:14 PM

Adrianna Costa's column made sense to me last week when I thought it was an advertorial. Basically, a paid ad that included some product placement and meant to look like a typical feature article. Advertising + editorial = advertorial.

Now that Enty says no money or compensation changed hands, I'm confused. I want to write a political column here. I'll post it every Monday and I promise to tie celebrities into the story somehow each week. That's the new standard, right?

At least, Enty is getting warnings that people are unhappy. Usually, people just leave when they aren't happy. They don't complain as they exit; they simply vow to never return. Any business owner would say he or she is thankful for the chance to make changes where possible to keep customers happy.

Where Enty goes from here is up to him. However, I maintain blogs. They're not about gossip. Getting a dedicated audience is hard. Recapturing a disappointed audience is harder. Good luck to him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous7:31 PM

Ent, No lay is worth losing the loyal readership you've built over the last three years.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ya .. Caroline pretty much hit the nail on the head. Besides, who the hell can wear these kind of boots in snow and ice? You would ruin them and yourself!

However, it I were younger and lived in a warm climate .. I would try to give it a go!

    ReplyDelete
  67. OH!! As for trashy .. I guess it is all who, how and when they were worn. This pic of Badot makes them look like a nice accessory to a great dress .. IMHO. But then .. my taste might be really bad!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't understand the fashion column. It doesn't fit with this site at all. Of course, it's Enty's site, and he can do as he damn well pleases. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This column is terrible. Bad fashion, horrible spelling (mixing up "hear" and "here" is beyond idiotic), and does not fit in with the tone of this blog. This is my favorite blog, the first one I check every day, but if this continues, I will be skipping Fridays.

    ReplyDelete
  70. i hope you all know someday how shitty it feels to be ripped apart for contributing something of yourself for FREE.
    lovely karma you've created,enjoy!

Adriana, thanks for your post. ignore the negative nellies.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The only time I've EVER seen OTK boots look good was on Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada; but I'd venture to guess most of us aren't built like her :-(

    ReplyDelete
  72. The last sentence of anon 7:10's post was gold.

And I cannot believe that everyone just attacked this chick, just like that. I am shocked. Most of you are suck Enty ass kissers that I never thought I'd see the day. I'm impressed. I also agree with you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Kids, kids, kids. I love you all, but ENTY is not a man. I doubt he's doing AC because he's not a he.

The decision to run her column-- and I am using the term very loosely--and the addition of all the celeb photos, clearly reflect a woman's sensibility.

And come on Jax, this is the WEB. Comments are expected and desired. If I were AC, I wouldn't ignore the comments, I would LISTEN to them. And get a professional writer to edit the stuff. Oh and a fashion maven to vet the taste.

Channeling Nina Garcia now, "it's a matter of TASTE."

But if I were ENTY I'd listen to the comments and dump the column.

Hey, smart, witty and snarky commenters: if you move to another blog, let me know because I am so loving your comments!

    ReplyDelete
  74. @ SueEllen, it's better as suck.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I agree, I am into fashion but don't want to read it on CDAN unless it is a huge celebrity faux pas like Jessica Simpson's mom jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous8:09 AM

Middle-aged diva, if enty is a lesbian, she still could 'do' Adrianna. Tee hee.

    ReplyDelete
  77. In addition to having someone edit the column, please change the name. Fashion or Fiction makes no sense. If you really want to stick with the Fashion or _____, how about Fashion or Failure? Or something along the lines of Fashion Win or Lose?

I don't think it's bad to put a Fashion column in a Gossip column but you also need to keep in mind your audience. Most of us aren't Hollywood thin. Most of us probably aren't even thin (myself included)! You want us to latch onto this? Post fashion advice for Hollywood looks the average women can pull off.

Just my opionon. Take it or leave it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Fashion or Failure is WAY better than fashion or fiction. You should get a royalty for that, Miss X. Also, whoever said that you should know your audience when your hawking a product hit the nail on the head. This is NOT the target audience for boots like that.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous11:41 AM

Here are lots of cheap boots - including OTK boots for $30 to $42. I have no idea what the quality is like and know nothing about this company, but I think his is the route I would take for a fashion experiment. http://www.gojane.com/shop-by-category-shoes-boots.html?sorttype=0&size=0&page=404

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have been reading CDaN basically since the beginning--started reading in 2006ish. Over the years, Enty has experimented quite a bit. If you look back at the early blog entries, you will see how his style, writing and focus have changed over the last four years.

My point is that the fashion column is just one of many different innovations Enty has introduced to the blog--some have stayed (and prospered), like Random Photos, and some have come and gone (like Quick Hits). Enty is nothing if not flexible.

As for this column, yeah, I'm not that into fashion. And certainly a good proofreading never hurt anyone's writing. But I kind of enjoyed this week's entry, even though I would never in a million years wear over the knee boots (the possible risk to the community at large is too great--I wouldn't want that many people sticking ball point pens in their eyes). Yet, the column interested me--I thought it was amusing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. OTK boots only look good as flats.
They're too slutty as heels - a look worn by French hookers 35 years ago.
No, Hudson does NOT look great here; her thighs look huge.
Duff's look is the best. You tell me the brand of those boots and I'll buy them... and wear them with a long tunic as she does here.
If we're going to get a fashion column, can we get some classier content? Better quality designs made with better quality materials? Bloody hell. None of us here is 16.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I am a little late but my two cents...

I don't mind a little fashion column. If it looks interesting I will read it and if it doesn't I won't..pretty simple..

Just like when I thumb through US in the grocery section and look at " who wore it better" sometimes if its engaging I look and if its a "bleh" week I don't..

thanks for the input and the boot hook ups..super fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  83. I thought this blog didn't allow Anonymous comments...but there they are...a lot!
