Blind Items Revealed

Monday, August 17, 2009

I guess this guy is a reality show host. The show is not really scripted although it does manage to usually bring out the tears. Anyway, the host likes to make it seem like everything on the show is all his idea when actually it is a team of people and he shows up for five minutes and takes the credit. He is also trying to sell the ideas that the other people have created and pass them off as his own.

Ty Pennington

  2. Enty, we would love to know who Coke Mom is. If you wont tell us, will you give a good clue in place of a reveal?

  5. so sick that he has the opportunity to be involved in such a great show (well... a show with a great purpose at least) and still manages to fuck it up with his ego.

  6. he is such a tool.

  7. He is the Ryan Seacrest of remodeling.

  8. LOL C i think you are right.

Ty comes across so sleazy and charming. The guy got a DUI and acted like oohhhh pooor me and got off easy career wise.

I heard about him a long time ago he has no carpenter skills and was hired for his looks for TLC.

He just was lucky to turn it into a full time gig and can totally seeing him steal ideas. Guy doesn't have 2 thoughts in his head to rub together.

  9. Ha. I more or less assumed it was Ty at the time, but still what a jerk!

  10. They are also cheap bastards on that show. They've called us numerous times and asked us to "donate" products to the show in exchange for credit. They are not asking for inexpensive items either, that's for sure, and they were also asking for a LOT of merchandise. I did it a few times and the on-screen & website credit really was worth very little so I stopped returning their calls and I guess they got the message. No donation requests for some time now...

  11. Very disappointing. His TV persona had me convinced

  13. And I agree: A Coke Mom clue if we're not going to get the reveal! :)

  14. Ugh- as someone who works in television development, I wish people like Ty Pennington would curl up and die. Horribly.

  15. At least those families get a new home! But yeah, another douche revealed

  16. I think the only way Enty will admit to Coke Mom is the day he shuts down the site and moves to Tahiti. But I think the consensus is Debra Messing.

  17. Okay this is mean.. but who else wants to read about more Ty drunken rampages??

    ME!!!

  18. I just wonder about that whole show in general...how well built is a house that is put together in days? How does the family pay heat/electricity for a 10,000 sq ft house? And why can't they do a normal sized house, for that matter?

  19. Oh Pamela S., I remember your website. You have that beautiful Indian teapot.

I think this has been a banner year for us guessing BIs correctly.

  20. I liked him on trading spaces. Now, not so much.

  21. This was easy to guess.

Chihuahense- one of the families that was on the show a while ago is now leaving the house (I don't remember if they've been foreclosed) because all the bills were too much to bear. Tragic. This is one of those shows where you have to be careful what you wish for.

Had a friend who worked on a house they did in AL and she said the same thing.

  23. Sunnyside I agree! I loved him on Trading Spaces.

I think the only one who has a good show from that bunch is Genivive (sp?) I love her show on HGTV

  25. Not sure what's the big deal - the producers hired a good looking actor to host and present and act like he knows about carpentry. Pretty typical of any home reno/ cooking/ wine/ travel etc. show, isn't it? Ie have a host who doesn't know squat about the topic but sure can say the lines and be charming on camera. IMO, sounds like the producers structure the show this way, and he's rolling with it.

  26. They're getting new homes, however.. they're getting homes that are too large for them to take care of financially. The upkeep and utility bills are putting a lot of these families in debt. There was a family in my state that received a house and everyone had to get second jobs to pay for it. They finally had to put it up for sale because it was just too much. It was also reported that they build the house so quickly that it isn't done right, or the house isn't given time to 'dry', essentially... so when the family takes the house over, they have to deal with poorly built homes due to the speed with which is was built. Enty isn't exaggerating when he says Ty shows up for five minutes, as that's exactly what happened here. He showed up at the end, after having done nothing up until that point.

  27. I've wondered the same thing about the quality of the houses! Nothing worse than a poorly-made house. Worse, the whole show is buying in to the tacky desire for gawdawful McMansions, which is part of the whole real estate debacle. Blech!

  28. Another ‘Extreme’ Home Faces Foreclosure

I don't feel too sorry for the recipients. A combination of things have occurred with these houses, from not taking into consideration increased utilities and taxes, which ANY homeowner should consider, to borrowing against the house, in one case to finance a risky business venture.

  29. Pamela S. They did that here in WA. They didn't even use the Sears in our county they went over to Seattle. Yet they wanted all of the food donated from our local eateries, the scroll credits were so fast you couldn't even see them!

I think that both the houses were let go because the people couldn't afford to maintain them,

I wish they would build a few homeless or transitional shelters, that is a huge need in our country.

Our local food bank is doing tons of rental assistance and homeless help and our adjusted unemployment is 7.5%, I can't imagine the need where it is 10%!

  30. Oh, and I had to stop watching Ty after Trading Spaces, he yells to much!

  31. Ty .. shoulda known.

I heard a story a few years ago about him that he had NO experience when he was signed on to do Trading Spaces. The producers just wanted to have a good looking "Tradesman" looking model dude .. he fit the bill. So, they hired him and taught him how to use tools but always had a professional behind the scenes to do thereally hard stuff. But anytime he was interviewed it was all "Oh yah .. I have "X" number of years as a cabinet builder/carpenter/designed .. blah blah blah.."

When I heard it, at the height of the Trading Spaces phenomenon, I was all "No!! Surely not!!" Now .. hum .. I guess I need to talk to the person who told me that story and apologize for telling her she was full of shit. Because this really kinda sounds like the behavior one would expect from the kind of person she told me he is.

  32. his cracked out brand of high energy keeps me entertained...and I thought when he was on Trading spaces he was a great carpenter? Didn't/doesn't he have his own line of furniture?

    ReplyDelete
  33. No wonder Oprah seems to have eased him out of her circle of "experts."

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'll apologize in advance. I'm sorry.

I don't feel any sympathy for these people. I stayed in school and graduated. I worked two/three jobs. I made sacrifices. I own my house and whatever it is that I own. I am not eligible for government tax rebates and anything else because I make too much money. Yet companies that spent recklessly got rewarded. I never once got any help with my tuition or any help with a mortgage or any other form of monetary assistance. I totally have no sympathy when I look around and see that my fate was my own creation.

    Again, my apologies.

  35. I liked Ty on Trading Spaces too. They should fire him and put on Carter. Or Paige. I liked her.

I have read that those houses aren't well built before. My husband saw a house in Charleston from one of those TLC shows and said you could tell it was put up in 2 days and looked cheap. This same thing happens to the people that win the HGTV Dream Home.

  36. anybody remember "monster house"?
dammit, i can't remember the dude's name, but i always said that TP was "m.h." dude light. he never does any real work, it's all behind closed doors. the mister and DD love that show, i've recently had it on during off hours (nothing else on, etc.) and i find HIM annoying and worthless. love pauly, though.
don't remember when this blind was put up, but am not surprised, not one bit.
and i wore my hair in the same style as his for years, only better.
    jerk.
