This is a couple that I thought would be together forever. Kind of like Kurt & Goldie. According to a statement from Susan's rep to People Magazine, they split back in the summer. She was great on Letterman last night and I had a photo of her for Random Photos, but I will use it here instead. Susan's rep did the announcing of the split so something is probably going to break soon that will make it obvious why they split. They have been together for over 20 years.
"Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins have announced that they separated over the summer,"

ReplyDeleteI literally gasped when I read this. I have so much admiration for both of them, in part because they made an unconventional relationship work for so long (age difference, not getting married, two actors, etc). Sad. Sad. Sad.

I'm not surprised. Studies have shown couples who don't commit to marriage are at higher risk to break up in the long term.

ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that people do grow apart over time, however that being said, I'm willing to bet that Tim strayed and got caught, either by betrayal by the bimbo who tripped his heels and wanted more than a one night stand (or a reality show deal), or by an "accidental" pregnancy by the same bimbo...ala Jude Law.

My sister used to be a nurse at a very high-end hospital here in SoCal and said Tim Robbins was there being treated for the flue and was the biggest asshole in the world to the staff. So I never really liked him anyway. I used to really like Susan until she and Tim began thinking that because they were good actors, people should just automatically listen and agree with their political views (especially during the Clinton era). Not that I don't agree with most of them, but I was really turned off by their smugness.

What's weird is that she was on 'The View' yesterday, and when one of the women asked her about Tim, she answered politely but said nothing of the split. If memory serves, there was a comment made about how long they've been together and how unusual it is. Must YouTube it to see if I'm remembering it correctly.

23 years is a long run for any marriage in this country, it's especially long in their industry. They are both classy people so it's likely the reason will never come out.

Well, they've been separated for about six months and HER rep does the announcement, so my guess is she has met someone.

ReplyDeleteOne thing that struck me as odd is that Tim was directing theater in LA in recent years, and I doubt Susan spends much time in LA.She is a total New Yorker, always at local events. Ive run into her there several times. That's where the kids were based. She also seems close with a sister in the NY suburbs.Why would Tim direct theater in LA anyway, when theater is a New York medium?

Wow. I loooved Tim Robbins in Shawshank, which has got to be in the top 10 of my favorite movies. (I have a friend who refuses to watch it because "it's sad"; in fact her movie interests are limited to stuff like "27 Dresses and "Happy Feet". *sighs*)

ReplyDeleteAm agreed with commenters who find them smug. Don't know why but I just never had affection for them, it seems like they don't want it. When Sarandon befriended Julia Roberts I recall not liking the influence she seemed to have on her, I think in terms of her starting to take herself too seriously. Absolutely LOVED her in Dead Man Walking though, thoroughly moved by the performances in that movie.
