Scary Stalker Arrested By Violet Affleck's School

I would say about half the time I find celebrity stalker stories humorous. I don't ever find them funny because all stalkers seem to have some degree of mental instability. I do like the stories where a stalker gets arrested and a restraining order against them and they decide they really liked a different celebrity better and go stalk them. What I don't like are the stories like the Paula Abdul stalker last year or Ryan Seacrest's stalker recently and I especially don't like the guy above. He looks like a killer and he has been stalking Jennifer Garner since 2002.

Yesterday Steven Burky was arrested for violating a November 2008 restraining order when he was spotted outside Violet Affleck's school. That scares me. I am sure it probably freaked the hell out of Jennifer & Ben.

It is even more frightening when you read what Jennifer Garner said when she sought the restraining order.

"He has now shown up at my private residence and has repeatedly expressed his belief that God has sent him a vision of me being persecuted in some manner that might result in my death."

Lock him up and throw away the key.

  1. Absolutely Enty--I agree that he needs to be locked up.

One thing--given that millions lack insurance, many with mental illness can't hold jobs and therefore can't get treatment. So some spiral into bizarre and potentially dangerous behavior.

It may be that if this guy had just had the goddamn fucking health care he needed, this wouldn't be happening.

So if he's locked away, he may get mental health care.

And MEANwhile, others who are not criminally insane just languish, quietly suffering, without any hope of health care.

  3. Seven years, he's basically threatened to kill her, and he was free to be caught outside the kid's school? I can't tolerate a young child being in that kind of danger. I'm sure plenty of people will think it's wrong of me, but I think I'd pay one of my bodyguards a bigass bonus to get trigger-happy.

  4. I have lived in a country that had universal health-care and I think it's criminal not to have access to it in the US.

  7. Can't stand Garner but this is totally messed up, especially considering that he was outside her child's school! What a wacko.

  8. Creepy. It's one thing to stalk a celebrity. Not saying it's right, but if you're famous, crazy people might follow you. But if I were in that situation and found out they had been following my kid, that would freak the shit out of me.

  10. how terrifying. i can't even imagine having to deal with that for so long.

i had a stalker for awhile who, among other things, tried to break in to my house through my daughter's bedroom window. i finally moved us in with my mom just to feel safe and looking back now i think i was crazy to wait so long to move. stalkers are scary and crazy.

this guy has been on a 5150 hold before, but i haven't been able to find enough info on him to say that he couldn't afford health care. maybe he could but doesn't think anything is wrong with him. i think that's the case a lot of times too.

  11. Ok, my question is this... does the SOB actually have to god forbid make physical contact with any of the family for the authorities to take this seriously??
Here you have a repeat offense, this time potentially targeting a child. Lock him up. Somewhere dark and deep and forget where you throw the key.

  13. @martin - when i caught my stalker the police in fact told me that he would have to actually break into my apartment and/or physically harm me or my daughter before they would even file a report! They finally filed one when he left a "present" all over my living room window.

Stalking is absolutely not taken seriously by our LAWS. The OFFICERS themselves were very concerned and gave me a lot of information and would patrol my block more often. but there wasn't anything they could do because the laws on the books did not give them any choice.

  15. It would be too late for the police to worry about if a stalker ever broke into my place. My family would defend our lives and property with mad prejudice until the ME got here to sponge the psycho off the hardwood floor.

  18. since the courts don't do anything about psychos like this until somebody's dead....if i were the afflecks, and saw this guy outside, i'd invite him in and shoot him the second his foot crossed the threshold. then i'd call the cops and say he forced his way inside.

sorry, but i would. it's the only thing you can really do since there's no help out there for you. and i'd definitely do it once i knew he was scoping out my children.

  20. Stalking is a crime, and if it's done across state lines it's a federal crime. And in response to the mental health care comment - the majority of stalkers suffer from a personality disorder, sometimes in addition to a mental illness. Medical treatment is very rarely effective with personality disorders.

  21. Hi All, I've been lurking around a long time.

This is really scary. When children are being stalked it's time to put the nut away.

  22. I know I'll get flamed for this, but... If I were Ben and Jen and some crazy fucker was stalking me I would take a hit out on the guy.

Sorry, but I'm part Sicilian and sometimes I can't help myself. :-\

  23. Stalkers are a very unfunny thing!! A friend of mine is a local TV anchor in a smaller midwest market. Some guy had been bothering her and she was getting very frightened. It got so bad she had a male friend guarding her when she went to and from her apartment. The stalker finally made his move tried to break in her place, the male had a gun and killed him. He had a "rape" kit with him rope, duct tape ect.. God knows what he would have done to her. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

  25. As politically incorrect as it is, I'd have a loaded gun on me if this wacko came anywhere near my kids' school. Stalking kids is right up there with child molestation. Lock him up and let prison justice take care of him.

  26. It isn't always a matter of insurance. Speaking from personal experience with someone I know--you may have a person who refuses to believe they need help, and no matter what you do they will do all they can do NOT to get treatment b/c they're convinced they're fine. In our case, the insurance would have covered at least part of it....but I seriously doubt the issue of insurance ever crossed the person's mind. Plenty of other stuff did :( but I'll bet that never did.

  27. Scary. Even scarier that there doesn't sound like there is much the police can do about this.

  28. That's scary as hell. Her child's school? That's just not right on SO many levels.

All I can think about when they talk celeb. stalkers is Rebecca Shaeffer.

  29. Weird - he has the haughty look/demeanor of an evangelical. Being raised in the South, you see a lot of that.

He also pings my gaydar. Anyone else?

  30. Yep, I agree that the laws regarding stalking are total BS. When my ex was doing it to me, I would call the police and then watch as they didn't give a shit. When I went to get my restraining order, I was chastised by the judge for not calling the police on every incident. What I wanted to say in court was "Why, so the cops around here can look down on me like I'm a piece of shit and do NOTHING???" Needless to say, all I did was apologize to the judge so I could get my RO!

  31. @figgy, I am so sick at heart over the 'reform' I'm going to roll calls Wed. and give a few Senators another can of whoopass.

Jennifer should move back to WVa. The guy could vanish there.

I feel really badly for them. Sad for you all that have had stalkers too :( That is scary stuff!

  32. If memory serves me the order of protection was issued in California, meaning he's following her around the country - This may have been why they moved to Boston in the first place. He's not going to stop until he is in prison, or he dies. I would be so frightened for that child, what is the best way to hurt a parent? If he can't have Jennifer he's going after her child. *shudders*

  33. OMG, this just makes me so angry and knowing how lax the laws are about stalking. I was stalked by a former landlord and i also my friend's best friend was shot and killed by her stalker. Restraining orders do nothing. I am not a big fan of guns but if this situation ever occurs to me and a family member again, you can bet your ass I'll be going to get one and learn how to use it. I feel very sorry for Jen/Ben/Violet and agree w/ the previous posters about hiring someone to "get rid" of this a-hole.
