Mariah Gets Pissed - Journalist Forced To Apologize
This is why reporters stop being reporters and start being suck ups and sycophants to celebrities. Last week Kate Garraway from GMTV in the UK talked about Mariah Carey's appearance on the show and how she had people lowering her to the couch and a huge entourage and it was accurate and insightful and was news. Then Mariah read about it and forced the people at GMTV to apologize for reporting news but also made Kate apologize as well. Can you imagine being forced to apologize for reporting true news? That is what she is doing.
Just because something doesn't cast you in the light in which you want to be seen doesn't mean the rest of the world needs to apologize for it. If you don't want someone to report on your diva behavior then stop being a diva and seat your own self on a f**king couch. Show up with one or two people instead of 25 people. Don't bring your own toilet paper to a 20 minute interview.
I'm sure Mariah's people threatened to never appear again on the show so the bosses backed off. God forbid you never have her on your show again. The world might end.
Here is what Kate was forced to say.
"I am really sorry about the furore I caused last week after I wrote in this column about Mariah Carey's appearance on GMTV. Especially because I am told it has upset the star herself, which is the last thing I intended. You will remember I said how nice Mariah was. Everyone at GMTV loved having her on and her performance, typically, blew us all away. But it was wrong for me to add some jokes and gossip about her being a diva."
"Her management have now told me that I got hold of the wrong end of the stick completely and I am still reeling from the massive ticking off my bosses gave me for fuelling the rumours that Mariah is unreasonably demanding. Of course a star of Mariah's magnitude is bound to have a lot of people around her when she appears on a show like GMTV, especially as in this instance she also had a group of backing singers as well - no one would expect anything less."
"Let's face it - the world would be a much duller place without people like Mariah and it's only because they are such stars that we all love to gossip about them. I am so sorry, Mariah, and I really hope that you come back to the UK soon."
It sounds like it was written by Mariah's people. It makes me sick. Now Kate will never utter anything again because she will be afraid of making a celebrity angry. Why are you so afraid of a singer? How often can she even be on your show? Once every two years? Grow a pair GMTV.
Wow, the Daily Mail hasn't even reported on this yet.. GG.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, as I thought Kate had bigger balls than that.
I disagree. I think it is more of a "sorry I upset you" and does more to point out how ridiculous Mariah is by simply being factual....Mariah threw a huge hissy fit...my bosses told me I really f*cked up...you have every right to be a huge diva Mariah because you are a huge star...sorry.
ReplyDeletebut that is just how I read it.
This is getting f****** ridiculous. I would have told Mariah and her management to shove it! Can't anybody say anything anymore. If you don't want your "ways" exposed by others to "embarrass" you maybe you should consider changing them. If I was the reporter I would have quited instead of appology.
ReplyDeleteWah, wah, wah. Shut your mouth, Mariah. You're a celebrity, so people are going to talk about you if you do absurdly stupid shit like this. Don't act like such a jackass, and maybe people won't talk shit about you.
ReplyDeleteI totally hate the way reporting has become an exercise in stroking egos instead of actually being truthful. And I am not an advocate of kissing a**, which is why I would never make it as a reporter...well one of the reasons at least. But just to back Kate up a little...would you really want to lose your job over Mariah?
ReplyDeleteI agree Alice. It sounds more like a tongue in cheek apology to me.
ReplyDeleteMariah owes this woman an apology. It's not like the woman lied, and she did say Mariah was nice. Garraway didn't make her out to be Beyonce or anything.
ReplyDeleteI think stuff like this just makes Mimi Cheese look worse.
ReplyDeleteEnty is right, she will never speak anything but flowery statements about *stars* because her employer has proven that they do not have her back. What a bunch of spineless, snivelling asshats!
ReplyDeleteYes she had every right to report it and yes Mariah sounds like a diva (and a azzhole too).
ReplyDeleteBut...I've been in Kate's position before (having to "apologize" to a giant azzhole) and unless you want to join the other million + people in the unemployment line you do it.
Oh and sometimes that isn't good enough and they still fire you.
That's why if I say it I don't back down anymore BUT I know, and accept my consequences.
in a french talk show("le grand journal"),Mariah Carey explained why one of her bodyguards counted her steps and was all time next to her whereas a journalist made fun of her in the set!
ReplyDeleteeven her explanation was phoney,i thought she was "gracious"!
contrary to Nicole Kidman,Renée Zellwegger and Celine Dion, they doesn't want to go on this talk show because they make fun of them all time!
Man, Mariah must not read any of her press if she thinks this would've made a dent in her popularity. Those who love her entitled attitude will give her a pass, and those who never liked her still won't. Sucks for KG to have to apologize for the truth about ridiculous behavior, though.

ReplyDeleteI am sure Kate from now on will think of Mariah as Mz. Bitch LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat statement sounds like it's positively wet with sarcasm...I actually quite liked it. Very backhanded.
ReplyDeletei'm not seeing the sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteif this had been me, i would've told my bosses to fuck off rather than kiss mariah's ample ass.
but that's me.
awwww...KG is just trying to save her job. i don't fault her, but i do think GMTV are colossal douches if this is how they pander to the famous.
ReplyDelete@ Pookie...pander is the right word.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure had Mariah been there in person when she read that someone thought she was a spoiled diva she would have had her entourage carry her off while she was in a snit and ordered one of them to slam the door on the way out.
ReplyDeleteI think the journalist's hidden message is in this "apology." It's not sincere at all--just kind of "ok, sorry."
ReplyDeleteI swear I would have walked off the show. Quit. I could not force myself to apologize to someone like that especially if what I had said was true. My skin crawls just thinking about this and it didn't even happen to me.
ReplyDeleteThere was a movie once about reporters (I believe) where the cameraman left the camera on to show the reporter saying what she really felt about people. Naturally it was shown and she lost her job, etc.
I wish someone would do that to some of these celebrities so they couldn't spin it. I'm sure if this goes on Mariah's team will spin it into some big "misunderstanding" and how she's really just one of us you know - nudge nudge, wink wink.
Can you imagine being forced to apologize for reporting true news? That is what she is doing.
ReplyDeleteGee Ent, from what I've seen that's what MOST reporters since Gee-Dub was in office have been doing. And they keep doing it still. I'm still waiting for this "liberal media" I keep hearing about....as far as I can tell the media is still in the control of the Religious Right. When GWB the lesser started his first term, I don't recall any media uprising...even though he was known to be a TOTAL JACKASS.
If anyone can help with my recollection, please let me know.
I agree w/ those who found this sarcastic. Kate is clearly very insincere in her sincerity. Smart woman.
