Your Turn

So, for the US tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Canada had theirs last month when we celebrated Columbus Day. Well at least the courthouses and banks and the postal workers celebrated Columbus Day, the rest of us worked. Australia has theirs in like March I think and the UK in September? I love food holidays. Anyway, despite what country you live in or if you celebrated already, you can certainly say something you are thankful for OR I also love a good Thanksgiving story or an awful one or really any story. Heck, you can quote scenes from Home For The Holidays if you want. I saw that Pieces Of April is now on Hulu so you can watch it for free. For those of you outside the US, download it using your favorite umm, program. Yeah, a program. It's KHBTC when she was normal and not Xenu-fied. Of course Planes Trains And Automobiles is great also. I think there is a horror movie that takes place at Thanksgiving also.

My first time hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the in-laws I cooked the bird with all the plastic & yucky shit inside. Snotty father-in-law did the carving :/

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans! And happy shopping you lucky bastards, we don't have anything like Black friday in Canada :(

  2. i'm thankful for: family, friends, seeing my charitable donations make a difference, chocolate and all it's related products, thin crust pizza, free online streaming of video and tv, online banking, a great healthcare system, red wine, sex toys and my better half (which incidentally go together)and countless other things that make my life so happy...

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

  3. I am thankful that i still have a full-time job, my benefits have not been cut, and my employer still contributes to my 401k. SO THANKFUL. Also, i am very thankful that it looks like my mortgage loan-mod is going to go through. YAY. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

  4. Besides all those obvious things, I am happy I dont have to sit through a thanksgiving meal at the inlaws pretending i like the food! Nothing on that thanksgiving table really suits me. :)

  6. We stopped celebrating holidays when my parents divorced 9 yrs ago BUT I'd rather have me some chicken and potato salad while watching a movie any day. And ugh I saw pieces of april last week,

    *SPOILERS*

I wanted to choke that mother and slap that goodie two shoes sister.

  9. I am thankful that I finally got the nerve to quit my abusive/toxic job two weeks ago. Things are uncertain, but I feel light years better already and the future is bright.

I am thankful for my beautiful, smart, funny son who is the true joy of my life.

I am thankful for my family and friends, for their support and love.

And, lastly, I am thankful for CDAN for allowing me a forum to get my damn snark on!

  10. I am thankful that I have a happy healthy family. I am thankful that we are safe and we have a home and we love each other and show it often.

Thank you CDAN family, too, for all the laughs. I swear, you are about the funniest bunch of people ever.

  11. I don't think the UK has an equivalent day to Thanksgiving but we do have a fair few ex-pats over so the US restaurants will be showing NFL and serving turkey probably.

That said, I will hop on this train and say, like NotSoAnonMom, I'm incredibly thankful for quitting my toxic job and even being poor over Christmas just isn't worth the grief for me.

Hope you all have a good one!

Thanks to all the non-Americans wishing us a Happy Thanksgiving!

Black Friday this year makes me nervous. Let's hope people spend money lots of money, but don't kill each other doing so.

  15. I'm thankful for my family, my friends, good health, a job, food on the table, clothing, a warm home with a roof over my head and freedom. There are so many who are going hungry, who have no home, who can't afford clothes and who live in places in this world where there is no such thing as freedom. No matter what your political opinions are and no matter what you think of the US, the freedom we enjoy is very special. Nothing is perfect, but I consider myself to be extremely fortunate. It's important to remember those who don't have all these blessings and help them all year round - not just at holiday-time.

Also, I'm thankful for my son, the medical professionals who helped get him to me and keep him here, and I'm thankful that the road to Santa Fe should be snow-free tomorrow through Saturday.

  20. Oh, forgot to mention one of the coolest Thanksgiving memories has to be the one this year. My mom is heading to NYC for Thanksgiving, so my sister and I decided to have Thanksgiving the weekend before.

Unfortunately, my mom had pneumonia, and wasn't feeling well enough to bust out her awesome Thanksgiving dinner. Since my sister and I have no culinary skills, we decided to pick up some chicken from KFC.

  23. I love Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

I'm very thankful that I have my family and we are all healthy and for my two very good friends. My son and I both had heart echos last week for different reasons but our results were good and for that I am super grateful. I love my husband, little boy, home, and my cats.

I am thankful for my therapist. She has really helped me this past year.

Happy Thanksgiving. This site brightens my day.

  24. I'm thankful for my self-made family, the fact that I'm employed, the fact that I finally got to meet my great-niece Andrea *and* cook for her, the fact that CDAN exists and Enty hasn't gone completely off the deep end trying to maintain what amounts to one of the best blogs out there.
And I'm also thankful that even though I know it's a big ole no-no, I can still have more coffee than is realistically good for me.
(Sorry Dr. Springer - I'm a caffiene addict and you know it. Smack me at my next appt)

Above all else, Happy Thanksgiving to one and all, and a special bacon wrapped T-Day wish for you, Enty. Thanks again for all you do.

YAY! I'm also incredibly thankful for those friends and family that are trekking from L.A. and Denver to Vegas to join in celebrating our happiest day with us. I love them all dearly. <3 <3

  28. i am thankful that i got to spend the summer being a full time parent to my bb before she started kindergarten (i'm a single parent and usually working full time), for my brand new healthy niece, and for triple grande mochas.

and my best Thanksgiving - the year my sister and i decided not to go home from college for the holiday and instead we cooked an entire spread ourselves in our tiny apartment. a random bunch of friends who also stayed in town came over and we had one of the best days ever stuffing ourselves and drinking wine. i think it was the most drama free thanksgiving we had ever had.

  35. My funniest Thanksgiving memory happened when I'd been married about six years. My niece had just gotten married that year. We were all at my mom's house and were busy each preparing different dishes. My husband came into the kitchen and walked up and grabbed two handfuls of ASS bending over the kitchen island! MY NIECE, jumped about three feet up and my husband stumbled backwards letting out a wail realizing just then that I was sitting at the kitchen table and NOT bending over the counter. He turned purple, and his six feet four inches shrunk to half his size. My niece was just stunned and my mother literally threw herself on the floor laughing until she couldn't breathe. Later, my niece's husband was trying to carve a deep fried turkey and it slipped and FLEW into a sink full of soapy water. Once again, mom lost all control of herself and ended up on the floor. It was a Thanksgiving to remember. Ah, good times.

I can guarantee that tomorrow each of these incidents will be brought up at least once just as they have for the past 12 years, to much laughter and ribbing. Also remembered will be the stories of my mother, who just about broke a hip that year with all of her laughing and rolling on the floor. Rest in peace, Mama. Your sick sense of humor is alive and well in all of your girls!

  36. Thanks Karmen!

One of the best Thanksgiving memories: My grandparents decided to make their annual trip to Florida for the winter right BEFORE Thanksgiving. My mom and my aunt were pissed so both families decided to go to the Bahamas for Turkey Day instead! They had surprisingly inexpensive package deals at one of those all-inclusive places. I was 16. It was SO much fun! :)

  37. No, we don't have any kind of Thanksgiving or equivalent here in the U.K. so I don't really know what it is. But happy Thanksgiving anyway. It seems like fun!

  38. I am thankful for my wonderful husband, as we celebrate our first Thanksgiving together as a married couple. I am also thankful that I am 24, and I am a homeowner! I am thankful that I have a full time job with benefits. Even if I am constantly looking for a new job so that I can use the degree I spent years in school trying to obtain, I am happy just making a living and ringing up your groceries.

I am also thankful for my wonderful 90 year old Grandma. I sense this will be her last Thanksgiving, and I just want to spend as much time with her as I can. She is my hero.

  41. omg, congrats southernbelle and sporky! what great news from the two of you.

wow. they say rain symbolizes blessing. if that's the case, then i am absolutely touching the hand of the divine right now. how apropos. my tropical paradise of a city is under absolute deluge, and while i want nothing more than to be at home tucked into bed, i look out at the city skyline and recognize how fortunate i am to have this life i've chosen, to have my health, and to have extraordinary people in my life. my heart longs for loved ones no longer here, but rejoices at those that are. there's so much to be thankful for, i'm almost scared of taking something or someone for granted. that includes you, cdan family. you brighten my day, you make me laugh and you make me cry. i wouldn't have it any other way. happy thanksgiving.

I am thankful that I still have a job and can afford to live in my home,

Happy Thanksgiving CDAN!! I hope you have a wonderful Turkey Day!!

  52. I'm thankful that my Christmas shopping is done with everything wrapped and ready to go under the tree on Friday. Probably seems like a dumb think to be thankful for, but I'd go completely insane if I had to walk into a store in the next month. :)

Our Thanksgiving tradition has been ham on Thursday and turkey on Friday, since I always start defrosting the bird too late. I'll be especially thankful if the damn thing can go in the roaster on time. lol

Most of all, I'm thankful that I have the luxury to stress about trivial instead of having to worry about something serious.

Happy Thanksgiving all! Hugs and kisses.

Happy Thanksgiving to Enty and everyone here at CDAN! I am a faithful lurker, extremely rare poster, but I am thankful for all of you and enjoy reading the posts and comments on a daily basis.

Now, for some humor. My funniest Thanksgiving was 11 years ago when I was about 10 days away from becoming a blushing bride and went to my future in-laws for dinner and to meet the extended family for the first time. Crazy nervous? Yes!

As we are all enjoying our feast, future husband's aunt and uncle decide it's completely appropriate to talk about how the aunt prostitutes herself to her husband for bingo money by waving a towel at him while asking, "Do you want me?" (Said aunt is OCD.) Her husband goes on to explain that she is a sex-crazed nympho and that for Christmas he was getting her a "dildoo." Pronounced just like I spelled it. They were both in their 70s at the time.

Yes, I still married him. And reproduced. Ha!

  57. I am thankful for my life, my health, my WONDERFUL family, my truly awesome friends (both online and in real life). I am thankful that I have such a great support system that I've been able to get through the last year - one of the hardest I've ever had. I'm thankful for gossip sites - ESPECIALLY CDAN and this community of great people - you have been part of my support system helping me get through this last year.

I am thankful for my divorce (lol) and the peace that has come with it, my cats, TV shows and books that I love and the fact that I'm getting a good enough severance package that I'm not freaking out over not having a job yet after my last day at my current job, which is this upcoming Friday.

southernbelle and Sporky - congratulations!!!!! Such exciting things coming up for you!

Green Wave Gal - SO glad you've gotten good news about your health and I wish you continued good health and hope that much of your stress has lifted from you.

I could blabber on forever and ever, so...I love Enty and all of you! You guys are the best!!!
