Why People Suck Sometimes
I have heard about the picture of the bear wearing ice hockey gear over at TMZ but I didn't really want to see it because I think it is cruel. Then today someone (Thanks Victoria) sent me the picture but also included an article from CNN about the same bear in the picture. I think.
I believe the picture of the bear above is the one referenced in this article from CNN. Several weeks ago a bear in Russia who was on ice skates killed the head of the circus for which the bear was trained and severely injured the trainer who came to assist the head of the circus.
The bear was killed at the scene, but it is this sentence in the article that killed me.
"It is unclear what caused the bear to attack Potapov, 25, nearly severing one of his legs while dragging him across the ice by his neck."
Really? Really you have no idea why the bear killed the guy? How about you made him wear f**king clothes, put him on ice skates, muzzled his snout and made him perform for you several times a day so you could make a buck. How about that for a f**king reason?
I hate shit like this. They need to outlaw it so bad...bullfights, circuses that use animals, ALL of it. It's horrid.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably get slammed for saying this, but nevertheless-whenever I hear about a "trained" animal ripping the trainer to shreds, I think GOOD! Unfortunately it means that poor animal has to be killed, too. But I think death may be better than the life these poor animals lead, anyway.
This just makes me sick. Isn't it bad enough that their habitat is being destroyed? This isn't even entertaining it is sad sad sad.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me sick. Animals were not put on Earth for our amusement, anymore than children were.
ReplyDeleteOn that note, though, is it possible for us to dress up Miley and Paris and Lindsey in bear costumes and hockey suits, put them on ice skates and let them have at each other?
I hate most other human beings, but I love you, Enty.
ReplyDeleteI also love it when animals used for entertainment FUCK UP the people who exploit them. I wish that white tiger had gone ALLLL the way with Sigfried. Or was it Roy? Ah, hell, like it fucking matters.
Also, if you're a bystander or a witness to something like this, you deserve your own jugular ripped clean out.
Oh, and I also love it when matadors get gored to death.
Time to feed my cats! Ciao!
even worse--the people who go & watch thes atrocities.
ReplyDeleteEnty, thank you for venting on my behalf. You said everything I'd wnt to say myself.
ReplyDeleteEnty, I totally agree with you on 'why' the poor animal did it. Shame they'll kill any animal and ask themselves why he did it... but gee, we only zapped it a few times with a cattle prod to make sure he performed for all the good people who paid good money to see him do backflips through hoops. Where did we go wrong?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to find that video of that guy getting ripped apart. One small victory for animals, one asshole at a time!
Just terrible.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
ReplyDeleteKevin Smith and Scott Mosier actually talked about this story on SModcast, a hilarious podcast. It's not for delicate virgin ears, but it's AWESOME for heathens like me. But they hit on the same points as Enty. It's messed up. Don't make vicious wild animals wear ice skates. I really don't know how to put it any more clearly. People are terrible.
ReplyDeleteGod, people are stupid and mean.
ReplyDeleteDitto on everything said.
ReplyDeleteFucking Horrible...
ReplyDeleteThe "Head" of the Circus got what he deserved..
Do NOT get me started on this. I mean it. Shit like this makes me hate the world. If you ask me, that bear had every right to take out everyone involved in that bear-playing-hockey fuckery.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, thank you to Enty for posting this and lol @ GladysKravitz for your alternative suggestion.
Add Zoos to the list of things I hate that people do to animals. I know all the arguments for them, I just can't support watching something in confinement for life so we can take our children to gawk.
ReplyDeleteThat's one thing I hated about staying in Turkey - the dancing bears. Poor little things!
ReplyDeleteI agree w/all of you. Terrible to do that to an animal. Makes me sick to my stomach to see.
ReplyDeleteHere's a reason---IT'S A BEAR!! Why are people so damn stupid? It's a bear. A wild animal. it is not a hamster. It is a bear. If it attacks you after you paraded it around like a toy then you deserved what you got.
ReplyDeleteNot a pet. A wild animal. You cannot predict their behaviour anymore so than you could predict a human's.
Poor bear.
In the immortal words of Chris Rock when the tiger attacked Roy of Siegfried & Roy. "That tiger didn't go crazy, that tiger went tiger". I think we can apply the same logic here.
ReplyDeleteWhy does this stuff happen now in this day and age? I swear people are getting stupider every day. I can see this being thought of as being ok in 1890 or something, but now? Hello?
ReplyDeleteIt's like when they go after elephants and make them perform...no wonder the elephants snap.
Scary thing is, as bad as this story is I bet it doesn't even come close to the real horror stories that are out there. :(
It's so sad. It's so terribly wrong.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone here...such a sad and horrible life for the bear....
ReplyDeleteThis is like the 2nd heart-wrenching thing I read about animals today,...the other was some you-tube video of people in China EATING a LIVE fish that had been fried...that was awful!!
I have long thought that they should have named that Fox show 'When Animals Decide to Seek Revenge.'
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more. I am sorry that someone was killed and another person was injured, but it was completely avoidable. No one needs to do that to an animal.
ReplyDeleteenty, at the risk of channeling katie holmes, you're amazing. we love that in your (our!) outrage, you speak the words of the collective cdan heart. thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the wise posters before me. The poor creature. And of course people are saying the bear was crazy. It breaks my heart to see elephants in circuses, tigers made to jump through flaming hoops or chimps in commercials or movies. When will we learn? And stop? Thank you Enty for posting this. Bless you and your love for the voiceless.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. It's like those kids a few years ago who were taunting a tiger and then when the tiger had enough and attacked they killed the poor thing.
ReplyDeleteAnimals are not toys or meant to be in display cases, they're living beings who deserve to be in their natural habitat. I agree with everyone else's comments. It"s only logical that an animal can take so much
Wow, I'm so happy to see that everyone here agrees--I was afraid there'd be a lot of people arguing for using animals this way.
ReplyDelete"That tiger didn't go crazy, that tiger went tiger". HAHAHA exactly!
Yep, ban circus animals, and zoos too. Zookeepers argue that they are doing the animals (or the species) good, but there has to be a better way to do that.
Ditto ya'll. :-(
ReplyDeleteI have to add, the only time I think it's okay to cage the animal is when they're rescued and put on the game preserves, or a place like Big Cat Rescue, which DOES help the poor wild critters that dumbasses think are cute when little and then can't handle once they reach full size. That I am okay with, because releasing them into the wild is a death sentence for most of them afterward, anyway. At least at that point they won't be forced/beaten into doing things to amuse the humans anymore.
ReplyDeleteCalgary Flames sure find creative ways to get on the news lately.
ReplyDeleteI can't read this.
ReplyDeleteI just know it's gonna make me hurt inside for animals and hate inside for humans...
I went to a circus when I was in Russia and was absolutely appalled at the way they treated the animals. (I was in college and it was part of the program I was on, so I didn't have a choie).
ReplyDeleteI still feel bad for the people hurt/killed. They were just trying to make a living.
I totally agree with everyone's comments, and thanks for the smile, Daniel Alex!
ReplyDeleteThe inhumane treatment of animals for show and entertainment infuriates me to no end. I went to the circus ONCE as a child, and remember being appalled at the way they whipped at the elephants to get them to stand up and do their "tricks". That stayed with me my entire life. I've done some extensive reading on the circus and the torture and inhumane treatment of the animals they enslave, and it sickens/saddens me beyond words.
Animals were meant to stay where they belong - in the wild, as wild creatures, to be admired from afar. If you are stupid enough to try and adapt them and train them to succumb for your own personal gain, you deserve what's coming to you.
** of course, animal rescue and rehabilitation is an entirely different subject!
Harriet - that's the first thing I noticed too :) An Iginla jersey at that. Are you a fellow Calgarian???
ReplyDeletei am not happy about the guy dying but what he did was cruel .
ReplyDeleteanimals are not toys and stuff , they need to be free what on earth was that poor bear doing with ice skates i am with enty on this one !
I know I shouldn't laugh b/c its NOT funny but it was just the way that was worded that died laughing. But 100% agree. All animal acts (incl Ringling Brothers) need to shut it down. Couldn't agree with your more, Enty!
ReplyDeleteJust as stupid and sickening as the frying and live-eating of fish. I know how I feel when I have to put ice skates on in the fall, it's dammm painful! but it's also a choice I make until my ankles and feet get conditioned. Poor creatures, paws don't belong in skates :-(
ReplyDeleteTake that f*cking jersey off! The Flames do an enormous amount of charity work, none includes animal torture.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought it was a joke or a mascot in a costume but that it is real breaks my heart...for the BEAR!!
ReplyDeleteI would pay money to see the entertainment that GladysKravitz suggested, can we also include the Kardashian and Cyrus families?!!
Why do we always try to attribute human characteristics to wild animals? Whether it's making them do human tricks or trying to understand why they do what they do... they're wild animals. There isn't always a cause and effect that we can understand. We need to just leave them alone.
