A Valuable Drinking Tip

How many times have you been drunk out of your mind on a city street with a bottle of wine but didn't have a corkscrew? Probably more times than you can count. Well fear not. In just 1 minute and 23 seconds you can learn how to overcome such an obstacle.

  1. Saw this the other day on izismile and wondered how well frothy wine goes down.

  2. Smart! If we ever have another bottle of wine with a real cork instead of those fake plastic-y ones, I'd like to try this - if it snaps in half, of course. No use wasting wine that may spill.

  3. Ah, the French....tres class! LOL!

  4. Genius. I've managed to push a cork down into the bottle with a car key, but this is much more elegant.

  5. Damn! I really thought this was going to end with the guy bloodied...So glad it didn't!

    True Genius!!

  6. I have never seen this before. Wonder how he figured it out, or was it just because he was too drunk to know better.

  7. American soldiers in WWII used to do that. Back then pretty much every bottle of liquor they found in France had a cork in it.
Glad to see the french still remember it!

    Here's another method: http://vimeo.com/221413

The secret is holding the bottle with the seam up, and pressing down hard with the knife.

  9. That vimeo clip was champagne, not wine. Can't do that with wine.

The wine trick is outstanding...I'm going out right now and get some soft soled loafers.

I guess I'm a total dummy, I was under the impression that champagne WAS wine.

  15. Syko...I wouldn't say that to a Frenchman (or woman).

Champagne has a different cork. It sticks out of the bottle and you can catch the edge with a knife. A wine cork is cut flat with the top of the bottle.

    By the way, snarky much?

  16. Brilliant! Loved the drunken French ramblings too. Doesn't matter what the language, you still get leary and silly, yay.

Mr. Pink, I'm not sure what I said that you took as snarky, but I apologize if I was as offensive to you as you were to me. I'm not a drinker, especially not beer or wine, and I'm 67 years old and speak my mind. I honestly didn't know about all the cork differences. I was not being snide, just honest.

  19. This trick definitely does work. Worked for a German company and saw/performed this trick many times when no bottle opener was available in the office. Fun place to work!

  20. i've pushed my share of corks INTO a bottle, but i've never seen this done, i love it!
syko, if pink had been nice about it, he could have told you that the diff between wine and champagne has to to with the method of preparation. and where it is made. technically, made anywhere else but that province in france (i can't spell it), then it becomes SPARKLING wine. and they use a mushroom shaped cork instead of a smooth, tube shaped one.
see how easy that was, mr. pink??

  21. So awesome - I was totally impressed! I don't know if I'd be brave (or drunk) enough to attempt it, but love to know its an option!

  22. Bunny, champagne is only champagne when it's made in Champagne. Don't you remember that Christopher Walken skit from SNL? LOL!

I showed the video to my husband - he's done it, too.
