Martha Stewart Trashes Rachael Ray

Martha Stewart gave her first television interview in about five years to Nightline. In the interview she takes lots of shots at Rachael Ray about what Rachael implies that she does and what Rachael actually does.

"Well, to me, she professed that she could -- cannot bake She -- just did a new cookbook which is just a re-edit of a lot of her old recipes. She -- and that's not good enough for me."

Martha says that Rachael can't cook and is an entertainer even though Rachael implies she is a chef and a cook.

"Ray is more of an entertainer ... with her bubbly personality, than she is a teacher, like me. That's not what she's professing to be."

So, what does Rachael have to say about all of this? She totally agrees with Martha and would rather eat Martha's food than her own.

"Her skill set is far beyond mine. That's simply the reality of it. Ray adds that "that doesn't mean that what I do isn't important too... I don't consider it needling. I really just think she's being honest. She does have a better skill set than I do when it comes to producing a beautiful, perfect, high-quality meal. I'd rather eat Martha's than mine, too."

I'm sure that last sentence just warms the hearts of people who decided to drop $35 on your new cookbook.

I thought I read a while ago before Martha went to jail that she steals recipe's and idea's from other people.

  3. Ugh! I can't STAND Rachel. I don't like Martha that much either, but she's way more talented than that little no-neck, gravelly-voiced weasel woman.

In this story it says that RR calls herself a chef. Another hint that she is the blind item from yesterday????

  5. faithy, just what I thought. I don't care for Martha's wasp princess act, but she yelled at Oprah when she was on her show once and I loved her that day.

  6. Can't stand RR. Get's on my nerves. Comes off as a low class phoney to me.

I think her and her big mouth is the blind from yesterday.

  7. I can't stand RR but she has always said she's not a chef, she's a cook and she learned to cook at the school of Mom, when she worked at her family's restaurant.

  8. Team Martha.

And yeah, Rachel is DEFinitely the blind from yesterday, methinks.

  9. Rachel is a practical cook and offers quick, healthy options for today's family. 30 minute meals etc. are quite popular because they are realistic.

Martha isn't a chef either. Making birthday cakes and selling them door to door isn't culinary school. She was a caterer not a restaurant chef. She offers the illusion of ease and artistry. She's great to watch, but honestly, who's going to make a 3 tiered marzipan wedding cake or keep chickens to get the freshest eggs?

  10. NOT A BIG FAN OF EITHER ONE OF THEM....BUT MARTHA'S FIRST COOKBOOK, 'ENTERTAINING' I THINK IS THE TITLE...IT'S LIKE A BIBLE IN MY HOUSE WHEN I COOK FOR A CROWD. THE RECIPES ARE PERFECT, AND IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOOLPROOF....AND IT HAS THE BEST CHEESECAKE RECIPE IN THE WORLD....IT'S JUST A GREAT COOKBOOK.

  11. Martha is a stone cold bitch, but her experience and resume is amazing. She reminds me a little of Julia Child, if Julia were a ruthless business woman. Martha seems to pride herself on knowing everything there is to know about a subject she's speaking on. Rachael Ray seems more of a slacker. I always get the vibe that she can't believe she's gotten this far. Their accomplishments can be summed up as talent (Martha) vs. luck (Rachael).

  12. MommaBear- You took the words right from underneath my fingertips. I couldn't have said it better myself!

  13. I'm also Team Martha and I think this is a definite hint for yesterday's blind.

  14. I was a bigger fan of Martha before her new show. She is the worst interviewer ever.

I don't know much about Rachael Ray because I can't watching anyything long enough because her voice is so grating.

  15. Am I all alone that I actually like RR? I don't watch the show because it's on during the day, so maybe I don't watch enough to get annoyed, but I think she's funny and doesn't take herself too seriously.

  16. Slightly off topic warning - do any of you watch the show Whatever, Martha, hosted by Martha's daughter Alexis and friend? If you like poking fun at Martha this is the show for you.

  17. And...Martha is absolutely correct.

LOVE that bitch. She can do no wrong.

  18. mikey - no but I've heard her on Howard Stern and she's hilarious!

  19. i don't mind rachel ray either. martha could have toned it down in this interview though. and rr will have her pr person to answer to for this little gem:

"I'd rather eat Martha's than mine, too"

there is a better way to compliment martha than take away from herself.

  20. what did Martha stick in her face? It looks as if she put Nicole Kidman's new implants over her cheeks.

  21. I agree about Rachel Ray, not that i have love for Martha (though her turkey recipe is a hit every year) but I think she's a total hack that has nothing to offer me in the kitchen.

  22. The whole reason why I appreciate Rachel Ray is because she always gives responses like that. She's always humble and truthful about her role in the pop cooking industry.

So, who d'ya think she banged, John Mayer or Adam Levine?

  23. there's no comparison between these 2 women. martha does the whole lifestyle thing. she's great at what she does, IMO.

rachael is a good cook. she cooks like most of us do and she has good ideas. i actually enjoy watching her cook.

    apples and oranges, folks.

  26. Wow! That was very very small of Martha.

Don't like either but Martha is one to talk. She's stolen recipes and ideas from others, and is a raging huge bitch. She'll always be Martha Kostyra from Nutley.

Oops, sorry for the triple post.

  31. @Mikey, YES, love that show "Whatever, Martha"! Her daughter Alexis is just so unapologetically bitchy. She says stuff like "I just don't like people." At least there's no pretense.

    Me!! :-)

    mmm, not so much.

  32. w/ the exception of that last line (which her poor publicist is probably having a heart attack over), i'd say RR handled it beautifully. and for that, i say, go her.

    ReplyDelete
  33. figgy, DD and I laugh hysterically at the craft section.

Sporkey, you must find when it's on in your area and watch - Alexis tells it like she sees it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't like RR but I've heard her clarify that she is not a chef, she's a cook, and I have to give her credit that she handled Martha's comments with a lot of class.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I used to watch RR all the time before she became so well known. She was still bubbly, but not the over the top variation we see now. She seemed more real, whereas now she seems more a caricature of herself.

In her defense, she has never claimed to be a chef. She's always been very honest about her background and her limitations. Her schtick is quick, easy, and quasi-healthy meals for busy, regular people.

Martha Stewart is just evil. It seemed to me that when she became really well known that her deal was to make everyone who didn't or couldn't do everything like she did was inferior. Maybe that says more about me than her though. ;o)

I also agree that Rachael had a very gracious response to a catty dig.

  36. Good response from Rachael Ray. I collect cookbooks and feel absolutely no desire to have a RR cookbook whatsoever. Martha Stewart is another story altogether. You do actually learn from her, despite how pretentious she can be, so I love her cookbooks.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Magi, re RR becoming a caricature of herself...I feel the same way about Paula Deen. That accent of hers becomes more southern fried every year.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gee, who's the bigger human in this? Let me think.... Oh, and one wonders how exactly Alexis became as dysfunctional as she did -- heh. It's actually a wonder that Alexis isn't a total sociopathic serial killer with the kind of ruthless asswipe she had for a mom.

Rachael Ray may not have the best character around, but she is at least up front with saying she's not a chef but a cook instead (unlike the pretentious Martha, who didn't even have Rachael's level of training at the age she was when RR got her first Food Network gig), her recipes are actually foolproof, and I would rather spend a year hanging out with Rachael than even one minute in the odious Martha's presence.
