Lets Talk Jake & Reese
Over the weekend there were reports in Kneepads that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon had ended their "relationship." One thing Kneepads has going for it is they are extremely accurate especially when reporting breakups. They don't like to make anyone mad and so they probably had about ten sources for the story. Well, later in the weekend the reps for both Reese & Jake said the story isn't true and are still very much a couple. Uh huh.
I'm a little slow today, but I can't remember the last time I saw reps rushing out and saying that a couple was still a couple. Usually they don't care enough to respond. Why is this time different? Why is this couple different? Now, as you may recall, Jake has a new movie coming out. Prince Of Persia or something like that which is supposed to do a lot of business. Now, does he get more publicity by trotting out Reese again for another publicity tour or does he get more by breaking up and finding someone new just in time for the press tour? By saying they are still a couple then there really is no drama or zing it is just the same old same old.
Has anyone seen them together lately? I don't specifically go looking for pictures of them together and every picture I have seen of Reese she was flying solo. I think they did something on Halloween together, but prior to that it had been awhile as well. I am trying to figure out the angle here, but I can't. Any ideas?
"I can't remember the last time I saw reps rushing out and saying that a couple was still a couple."
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? This is like the entire job discription for J. Biel's rep!
Nice photo Enty =]
ReplyDeleteDid Jake shave his beard?
Alice,
ReplyDeleteYou are right. I should have clarified. I said reps, and I should have said both reps. And even in Jessica's case, you never see Justin's rep comment on it.
Well, if the reports and blind items are to be believed, Jake has had a very hard time keeping up "appearances." Apparently he was thisclose to coming out.
ReplyDeleteWell, beard/merkin relationships are usually orchestrated by the studio's and publicists - so I'm thinking because of this big role, Prince of Persia, they are going to scramble to mend bridges, and deny stories
Either way I know I'd watch Jake in hetero roles if it is true, and he IS gay. I mean, he had me at Donnie Darko :)
True enty very, very true. As we all know (and much to my chagrin) JT doesn't need to play that game.
ReplyDeletemy theory is the contract expired and wasn't renegotiated quickly enough...all the backpedaling leads me to believe the new deal involves more $$$.
ReplyDeleteRachel Bilson's PR people did the same thing a few months ago, shooting down rumors of a breakup between her and Hayden, when there weren't even any rumors, as if anyone even cared. All this from PR people who "don't comment on their client's private lives." Please. Can anyone say publicity stunt?
ReplyDeleteI agree K...I'll watch him in anything...doesn't matter to me his sexual orientation...
ReplyDeleteIf he finds someone new, even if she is a big glamorous a lister, he looks like a jerk and Reese is the new Anniston. Better off to remain in the stable relationship for now and part quietly after his movie opens. They are fairly low key anyway, compared to the other fame whores we snark on.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am in the minority but I could care less if an actor or actress is same sex oriented…I still buy them in hetero rolls if they are actually good at acting. I think Ted has been insinuating (and I pretty much believe it) that the dude from White Collar (also Brice on Chuck) is gay and I am totally convinced that he digs chicks when I watch him on TV. Hello America…they are pretending to be someone else.
ReplyDeleteSince they are so uninteresting, maybe this was their way to drum up some interest about them. But if their PR is trying to gauge how a break up would be received they it worked. Everyone is glad to see one of the worst showmances finally be over.
ReplyDeleteGive it a decade or so, Alice, and the rest of the world will catch up to us. :-) I hope NPH and others continue to blaze the trail.
ReplyDeleteI think that Prince of Persia is going to be a big bomb and they're desperate for publicity of any kind.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of celeb couples who aren't photographed together anymore, what about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner? I visit this site almost every day and haven't seen them together in ages. I don't think I've even seem him with Seraphina or Violet either. Sad.
ReplyDeleteSince they are so uninteresting, maybe this was their way to drum up some interest about them
ReplyDeleteChristmas shopping is about to begin and Reese Witherspoon is selling cheap Avon perfumes, crappy "Four Christmases" DVDs and fauxmance with Gyllenhaal.
the public doesn't like being lied to...ie Tom Cruise. Jakey better watch his next career move...and more so his personal ones.
ReplyDeleteI love when ent lawyer comments. I, too, agree with Mooshki. I aint buying him in Prince of Persia.

ReplyDeletei've never been sure this 'so and so is gay and hiding it' shit is real. like most of those here, i don't care one way or the other. was jake ever considered a major heartthrob whose career would suffer if he came out? i sure never saw him that way. he's a pretty good actor but i see him losing no parts or supporters if he comes out.
ReplyDelete(that is, IF he's gay. i have no idea whether he is or not.)
I also love it when EL comments.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Mooshki. P of P isn't out until May and I would bet anyone a cheeseburger that it will bomb.
I think Pookie has the right answer. It's all about the $$$.
I was trying to figure out what I disliked so much about the P of P preview, and I decided that it's too immature for adults, but way too full of sexual innuendo for people to take their kids. So their only hope is to appeal to male heterosexual young adults. ;)

ReplyDeleteHe's a Disney property.
ReplyDeleteThat and the fact that he's headlining what Disney is hoping is another "Pirates" means they're going to do everything they can to draw publicity to Jake (or as some of us call him, Toothy Tile) that emphasizes his "masculinity".
If that means suddenly leaving Reese for someone else to manufacture drama and publicity, then the Rat will make it happen.
@Mooshki:
ReplyDeleteI caught the trailer when I went to see 2012, and I liked it.
And I promise, I'm neither young (hey, at 48 those days are long gone) or heterosexual...but I'm male.
I saw the Prince of Persia trailer just can't see Jake playing a fairy hero (excuse the pun) lol.
ReplyDeletePookie's right--they just negotiated a new contract for more money.
ReplyDeleteBut I always wonder--what if Reese wants to date someone for real?
Brothers is out way before Prince of Persia - perhaps trying to drum up some false relationship between him and Natalie Portman. And I'm in the minority with all y'all - I don't care his orientation - I enjoy watching him (that being said, P of P looks god-awful).
ReplyDeletePrince of Persia looks like a straight boy's homerotic fantasy.
ReplyDeletere gay guys in straight roles - I totally believe NPH as Barney on How I Met Your Mother. He's I'd hit that. As would every other red-blooded human on earth.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a blind on this site recently which suggested that Reese had a relationship with the female head of her production company?
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are about as interesting as mayo on wonder bread with milk. Bleh.
ReplyDeleteEven better than 'How I Met...' is the fact that NPH can play himself in the 'Harold & Kumar' movies and be completely believable as a straight guy. :)
ReplyDeleteHis angle is that he's gay and she's his beard. He doesn't want to be outted any time soon, so they'll hang on to that faux relationship as long as they can.
ReplyDeleteevery interview i have ever seen of jake makes me think he is fairly self assured - why would he bother to fauxmance witherspoon? he would probably get more roles if he came out tbh. he is already a gay icon (see: brokeback) - also - just sayin - none of these gay rumours were swirling around till he starred in brokeback.
ReplyDeletehe might be bi. although i never really got the whole gay thing from him. sure he's a confident guy who is into drama - stereotyping much, people? i read an interview done by natalie portman and him and he seemed VERY into her...
I don't care if an actor is gay or straight. I think NPH is one of the best actors EVERY and completely buy him in everything he's done. What I don't like is being lied to. Before NPH came out, he wasn't hiding himself behind some fake relationship, he just wasn't commenting. Same with Anderson Cooper... he doesn't lie about it he just doesn't comment. That's fine, that's their business. But this bearding business that happens so much in Hollywood is not only insulting, but it's a dangerous message to be sending to kids and teenagers who are confused about who they are and what they're going to do about it. Showing them that they're never going to make anything of themselves unless they hide out as a heterosexual is a great way to encourage the self-loathing that so many of these kids go through. SO many more GLBT kids try to commit suicide than straight kids, and people that have BEEN THROUGH THAT and are now in the public eye should NOT be continuing to make it worse. I used to LOVE Jake G, and even when I first heard the rumors about him, but he hadn't yet hid in this fake relationship with Reese, I still loved him, didn't care if he was gay or what, I just thought he was a great actor. But how many years of this is he going to put in? Reese has kids! Are they lying to them too? What kind of people would do that?
ReplyDeleteThat's the thought that makes me hope to hell that Ted C is the liar, and that Jake and Reese ARE a real couple. Because if he's right, and they're teaching her kids that these kind of lies are okay, then that's effed up and frankly I think they're probably not very good people.
i guess what i'm trying to say is that neither party particuarly gains anything from this f*ing boring relationship - thus - it does not make them money. They gain no tabloid inches by staying together. they are THE most boring celeb couple on the planet. people only care when they break up because they want to get into jake's pants (like me cough cough) so i doubt either of them would bother unless they were fucking...
ReplyDelete@ Char - snap. i would never watch a gyllenspoon movie again if that was the case... although i doubt it is
ReplyDeleteI still think that Jake is bi, and does care about Reese, but would rather be with Austin.
ReplyDeleteI don't get why Reese needs to be a beard for him. She won a freeking Oscar!!
ReplyDeleteOh Enty-
ReplyDeleteYou know, you know...
As far as the dude from White Collar goes, there are pictures that can be found of him on the internet with his tongue down another dude's throat, but he still plays a convincing ladies man on White Collar.
ReplyDeleteJake Gyllenhaal's problem is that he's been going out of his way to hide things for so long and with such high profile people that it would be a huge tabloid scandal.
hi Toothy !!

ReplyDeleteFreeking Oscar winner sells cheap Avon perfumes and makes crappy movies like Rendition, Penelope and Four Christmases.
Ryan dumped Reese for Abbie and they are still together.
Reese wants to keep selling "I have it all" fake public image.
Witherspoon must be the dullest woman alive and fauxmance with Jake got her tons of publiticity, she can pretend she has it all and she has someone high profile to keep her company in public.
