An Open Letter To Miley Cyrus
Dear Miley,
I know you are 16 years old and yes, you have probably lived a lifetime in those 16 years. I mean you must have because you have already had one volume of your memoirs published and have several more to go. Yes, I have made fun of you and chastised your parents, but I am just full of advice so here is a little more for you.
I read today that you stopped Tweeting. Although I am iffy on Twitter I think your reasons for stopping is something you may regret. In your last Tweet you said, "FYI Liam doesn't have a Twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason."
Here is your life lesson. Don't ever stop doing something innocuous just because your significant other doesn't want you doing it. Sure, if you are doing drugs or about to jump off a building or set to watch an episode of Living Lohan then by all means listen to your significant other, but stopping something you obviously love doing just because he doesn't want you to do is a step in the wrong direction.
You need to live your own life and not live it according to the wishes or wants or desires of another person. Don't live your life to please your parents or your boyfriend or your friends. Live your life for you. In every relationship there are compromises, but this isn't a compromise, it is a demand. Once you start acceding to his demands it is a very slippery ride to having no control over you or who you are.
If you turned off your Twitter account because you were tired of doing it, then great, but if you turned it off because Liam doesn't have one or doesn't want you to have one, then you need to think about what you want and what makes you happy. Liam will probably go away. I know you don't think so, but the chances are the two of you will break up and you will regret doing what he told you to do, and not making decisions that affect you, on your own.
EL
Sage advice. It's too bad she won't be listening.
ReplyDeleteAND P.S. SAVE YOUR MONEY...
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
ReplyDeleteomfg. a 16 year old stops twittering and the internet is aghast!! who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares who cares????
ReplyDeleteHahahaha@brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteYouth is wasted on the young.
ok, so this liam is a bf, i take it?
ReplyDeletemeh.
can't wait 'til twitter goes the way of myspace.
My S.O. hates Twitter, Facebook, and the gossip sites I go to. I get to hear his pissy little rants occasionally, but really, who cares? Part of growing up is to learn that you can still do the things you want and love in a relationship, even if your S.O. doesn't like them. It's called having your own identity.
ReplyDeleteA. Men.
ReplyDeleteEnty - you'll make a great daddy someday. (Assuming you don't have any little rugrats - that you KNOW of - running around already!)
Agreed...I heard the whole family has stopped, too. What kind of freakish power does this young Australian hold over people??
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Jesse. Do I understand why my SO feels the need to hang out on nba.com all day? No. Does he get CDAN? No. But we are not the same person, and thank god for that!
ReplyDeletevery well put EL
ReplyDeletegood advice but its just a Twitter account and she's 16, its what 16 yr olds do. Hopefully she'll look back adn think she was stupid for doing it for Liam--whoever that is
ReplyDeleteEnty, I really think you need a talk show. Really. Consider it.
ReplyDelete"...it is a very slippery ride to having no control over you or who you are."
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I thought when I heard about this, Enty. It's sad that she's letting some guy control what she does. It starts with Twitter, then he tells her what to wear, he tells her who she can't hang out with, and on and on.
She changes bf like some people change underwear.
ReplyDeletelol@sunnyside
ReplyDeleteShe is just a stupid little girl who has no brain to think on her own.
LOL @ shazzzba.
ReplyDeleteI don´t like her

Your letters to Richard Branson amuse me more, Enty.
ReplyDeleteWord, Enty!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I read this story this morning. What exactly is this "good reason" your boyfriend has to control how you interact with your fans? And is it hard to walk without a spine, Miley?
You're a good guy, Enty. Poor Miley. No parents with any sense, from all appearances. Now taking direction from her boyfriend. She's got to have an achy-breaky sense of her self.
ReplyDeletegood advice - not just because it is miley cyrus but good advice to all with young love in their hearts and mind... never change who you are to make someone else happy, in the end you will only ruin your own life! :(
ReplyDeleteI think it's petty that this has made so many blog headlines, however, i think the point isn't so much about the action itself as it is about what it can become.
ReplyDeleteWith so many YOUNG women in the entertainment industry being molded and made into these sexy little creatures, regardless of the fact that they're so young, they need to be doubly aware of themselves, what they do, and who is trying to control them. As Enty said, it is a slipper ride to having no control at all... there are so many examples of control gone wrong (Britney or Lindsey, anyone?) that it makes it almost more imperative that SOMEONE say SOMETHING.
ok, I'm stepping down from my soapbox. It's just so sad to see people willingly giving up pieces of themselves in a way that could potentially spell harm. The recovery is hard.
She should thank you for the warning Enty! Wish this little girl had parents who would tell her the same thing.
ReplyDeleteAllow me to add some advice my Daddy told me when I was her age.
"A man who has to control or hit a woman isn't much of a MAN."

ReplyDeletewow, a 16 yr old doing something because a boy told her too. who ever heard of such a thing. why should she have a twitter anyway, when it's what immature 16 yr old girls do.
ReplyDeleteshe's going to be a mess when she's older.
I just added Miley to twitter a week ago or so and I was pretty amused at what she posts... maybe her bf wasn't so much telling her to delete her account as much as suggesting that maybe she's making an utter fool of herself...
ReplyDeleteIf I was a close friend of hers, I would have suggested it myself....
ha ha, i hope all you grown ass men can now find something else to write about. even miley thinks you're ridiculous.
