A New "Vacation" Generation

At this point I am iffy on what New Line is proposing. New Line wants to make a new version of Vacation. They don't want to mess with the original. What they want to do instead is to have Rusty begin his own Vacation adventures with a family of his own. New Line envisions bringing in Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo to kind of pass the torch top the kids and let them have their own vacations.

I think it could be good. I also think it could be horrendously bad if not done correctly. The executive on the movie says that Vacation is the movie he has watched more than any other in his life so that is a plus. The negative is that I don't want the original ruined and I think by making it Rusty instead of Clark they can preserve the original. There is talk that the guy who directed Wedding Crashers will be brought in to write and maybe direct the new version of Vacation.

Like I said, I'm iffy on this but I can be swayed.

  3. I think it could be a really great thing as well. I can never get enough of Christmas vacation - I start watching it on Thanksgiving.

I think that the role of Rusty should be played by one of the Rusty's with my top choice Anthony Michael Hall. Full circle and all that jazz.

  4. Maybe if they brought Anthony Michael Hall back as Rusty...

  5. Only if they have Anthony Michael Hall play Rusty. Definitely not the Vegas Vacation Rusty. Oh, and bring back Dana Barron!

  6. Are there no original ideas left in LA-LA land? Apparently not. Hey Hollywood - Let's not re-do any more old, classic movies!

  8. I watch Christmas Vacation year-round.
I agree that it could be great, but it probably won't be.

I won't get my hopes up.

  9. I'm on the AMH train. I hope they don't use Christmas Vacation Rusty.

  10. I agree, Anthony Michael Hall as Rusty. He has that air of "could go off the edge at any moment."

  11. I would give it my blessing (cause you know that's what counts *snicker snicker*) if they got A.M. Hall. Hey, wouldn't it be great if they got Molly Ringwald to play his wife? It would be the ultimate homage to John Hughes. :)

  12. Clark should take the grankids on vacation. Without Chevy as Clark you have nothing. Randy Quaid needs to be in it too. Anyway he can get reinstated? Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite movies.

  14. At first I thought, "Hell no!", but it doesn't sound as bad as making a movie based on Battleship.

I'm with you, Enty. Thin line between crap and gold in this case.

  15. Can't anyone in Hollywood come up with anything new. They just keep redoing classic movies and screwing them up.

  16. @ GreenWave Gal...Maybe if they brought Anthony Michael Hall back as Rusty...

Definately. And love Molly Ringwold as the wife.

  17. Sign me up. I'm with the Anthony Michael Hall people. They could recreate him touching a breast from the European vacation :)

  19. I think it would be good if done right and if Anthony Michael Hall is Rusty and it is his family vacations. So .. one vote for yes from this neck of the peanut gallery.

  20. I think AMH is hot now, and I also think this movie will only be good enough if they use a Rusty of his caliber. I mean, I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned that he was the ONLY Rusty who could act.

And Molly Ringwald as 'Farmer Ted's' wife would be such a wink to us middle-aged folks.
