I Hate Lindsay Lohan But...

So the world is abuzz (more pictures on the link) because of the disaster of a fashion show in Paris displaying Lindsay Lohan's first collection as a part of Emanuel Ungaro. I have read lots and lots of reviews and no one liked it. Editors ran from the show so they couldn't be trapped into answering reporters questions. Apparently this was the fashion equivalent of putting a McDonald's in the Louvre. The same weekend it was announced that the Mona Lisa will be asking patrons whether you want fries with that, here comes Lindsay Lohan consulting for one of the French fashion houses.

From what I understand Lindsay was just the consultant here and not the designer. Estrella Archs was the designer. Lindsay is the artistic adviser so I am trying to figure out how she is to blame other than the fact that when her job was announced, Ungaro's designer quit. This announcement left just three weeks for a new designer to be hired and to make an entire line of clothes. Sure, there were some ridiculous pieces in this show, but I have seen crazier things in lots of other French shows. As much as I dislike Lindsay and would like to see her disappear from my brain and memory forever, I didn't think this line was the worst thing ever when compared to other shows. Nothing ever looks like it can be worn even in what is supposed to be ready to wear. Did the pasties on the breasts look ridiculous? Sure, but so did the Hannibal Lecter masks last week in another show.

I will always be the first in line to take my turn at trashing Lindsay. In fact I will push and shove my way to the front, but I think if this show is truly awful the responsibility is more on the director of the company and the designer he hired and the bad publicity he knew would ensue from hiring someone as polarizing as Lindsay for one of France's traditional fashion houses rather than on Lindsay herself.

  1. I don't think it's truly awful; I do think it's very Forever 21 - not French fashion house.

  2. Having seen the pics, it doesn't seem as bad as the fashion commentators have been saying. I really wish LL could get her life together though.

  3. hiring her automatically discredits any project.

It all looks like pretentious, fugly crap that only someone like Amber Rose would be caught dead in, imo.

  5. you know what was truly awful though? Lindsay's face. I can't tell if it is heroin bloat or just tons of other injections of the plastic surgery variety but she looks terrible.

    E had this to say:
At the Ungaro Spring/Summer 2010 fashion show in Paris, new creative director LiLo made the scene. Though the initial reviews of the collection were not positive, at least her appearance in Paris was professional and not merely about partying for its own sake. Work it!

she looked like a professional drug addict E. The only thing she was working was the stroll. Get a grip

poor lindsay. she needs to clean up so she can start getting it right.

I didn't think the clothes were all that bad. Lindsay's face, though, that's another story. Unbelievable that she is only 23 years old! She's even starting to look older than her 15 year old sister!

  8. oh, there's the albino model in the second pic i believe. GO GIRL.

tsk, i can't afford to pay high prices for clothes or even wear the latest styles. gosh, i can imagine what some would say about my wardrobe.

  9. I kind of like the 3rd dress, the rest is bleah.
But totally the right call on this one Enty. How much did Lindsay really have to do with this? My guess is just her name.

    ReplyDelete
  10. All I know is that I wouldn't allow my name to be attached to something if I wasn't 100% about it.

Also, on a side note, those clothes look like something the 9 year old me would have created using old sheets and double sided tape.

  11. The larger issue at hand is how absolutely terrible Lindsay looks. I cannot even believe she's only 23.

Also, WHY would the fashion house want to have Lindsay attached to their name in the first place? Did the employee walk out like he said he would if Lindsay came on board?

  12. Pookie, no, it's a news story which just came out in MSN Money, Market Dispatches:
McDonald's (MCD) plans to open its 1,142nd outlet in France next month to celebrate its 30th anniversary in the Gallic country, according to the U.K. paper The Daily Telegraph, and the location is at the pinnacle of all things cultural and classy: the Louvre.

"Visitors to the museum will soon be able to enjoy their Le Big Macs and pommes frites after studying the likes of Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" or the Winged Victory of Samothrace at McDonald's new burger bar and a McCafe. They will be sited in the underground approach to the museum in central Paris, known as the Carrousel du Louvre. But gastronomes and aesthetes are outraged."

I know I was outraged and I'm not even French! Just wish I was, lol.

  13. I think the dresses that both lilo and the designer were wearing are nice- there is a bit of tackiness that goes with the heart jacket and skirt. (photos of those designs are in link)

From what i understand they brought lilo into it to create a buzz and lots of photos - Ungaro has not had the publicity it had when the HBIC Ungaro left in 2004. and being under the radar they picked up a highly followed celebrity (who normally wears leggins and big shirts). And they were a success any publicity is good publicity right?

Why they bashed her as hard as they did i do not understand. If they do keep her on for fall 2010 then hopefully they can pull together something classy and not have lilos name be trashed like it always is.

  14. Doesn't look any worse than the rest of the crap designers put out these days labeled as "fashion".

  15. I didn't think this line was the worst thing ever when compared to other shows.

No, it isn't really any worse than anything else, except for those grotesque orange pants. The models were appropriately ugly, especially the one with the big ol' scar on her boob. But LiLo was obviously wasted out of her mind from the looks of the other photos of her.

  16. I agree with the Forever 21 comment....nothing special, and WAY too pret-a-porter for Paris fashion week. Project Runway deisgners do better than that hot pink mess.

  17. it's not that bad at all. seen way worse at couture shows.

lilo looks like death warmed over, those lips the hair falling out...awful. get help girl.

I think wear the Lilo hate comes in - at least from me - is that she was given this fantastic oppurtunity @ a PARIS fashion house that many real designers would kill for and she cant even pull herself together and stay drug-free for one night?
It is ridiculous that this drug-addicted girl keeps getting oppurtunity after oppurtunity simply because she is a tabloid sensation. She will never pull herself together as long as people keep paying her to be a part of projects even as she is methed out of her head.

  19. There are no new ideas in that collection. It's all been done before and better. As others have said, it looks like a ready-to-wear collection.

I doubt Lindsay had much involvement with this line. She probably just brainstormed a few ideas for color or silhouette.

  20. The only outfits I like in those pics are actually the ones that the designer and Lindsey are wearing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The first dress was at least shinny and fun, but the rest looked like a flash back to the 80's. Blah!

    ReplyDelete
  22. someone please tell her how STUPID she looks with those bloated lips and that open-mouth thing she does all the time when she spies a camera on her, like she's trying to be sophia loren all the sudden? and i wish ENTY had posted the pics of the really awful pieces in that show, with the hearts and the heart pasties all over everyone. terrible.

  23. Okay...is it just me or does the model in the 3rd picture down look like Mr. Spock or his sister??

haha....sorry couldn't resist....as for this collection, I did not think it was too bad, just as many things now a days the only people who could wear them have to be anorexic to wear it....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bingo, Faithy. I'm nominating Lindsay for the "done least with most" award.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The only thing I hate about these photos are that the models are skinnier than Lilo. She looks fat in comparison in that last pic.

  26. 3 weeks. THREE. WEEKS!

There is absolutely NO way this could've been anything BUT a total failure. Lindsay is all kinds of f*cked up, but seriously there's NO WAY anyone except for the likes of Galliano or Jacobs could've pulled this off.

If they had no idea what designs they were doing before the original designer left, they were NEVER going to get it together in the first place.

I actually feel sorry for Lindsay here because it's just more bad Juju. They probably only spent like a half-hour talking to her like one of those "guest-star" episodes of Project Runway.

  27. Ungaro probably knew even before the designer quit that there was no line, and probably hired Lindsay so that all the attention would be focused on her in the event that the thrown together in three weeks line was ill received. They basically wanted a huge boost of publicity and a scapegoat for shoddy design. Lindsay is tailor-made (pardon the pun) for that part. Having said all that, I agree that Ungaro's unwearable, overpriced craptastic clothes weren't any worse than any other of the craptastic clothes that we are force fed as "high fashion".

If designers want to impress me and get my money, they should make pants for women with thighs and knee high boots for women with calves.

    ReplyDelete
  28. SPEAK IT, RJ!!! I am sick and tired of not being able to wear knee high boots!! And ITA with Lindsay being made the scapegoat in this. Shame on you Ungaro!

  29. I couldn't have said it better myself. I think the pink dress at the top of the photos is actually pretty cool. Not that I would wear shocking pink but for a 21-year old, why not?

  31. Lilo looks busted.....and her 50 yr old sister was right there with her grabbing as much free stuff as she could....and not in school..Shocking !!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Let's be honest. Lindsay is merely a publicity whipping girl - for Ungaro and for gossip sites. It's simply an extension of her being used for other people's ends and agendas, a desperate repetition of the patterns established by her mom and dad. Seeing these pictures of her makes me sad. She's made mistakes, but hell she's a person too.

  33. Well, it wasn't as bad as Lisa's "fashion" show from Real Housewives of Atalanta (Ruffled purple satin jumpsuits anyone?!). And that's about as nice a comment I'll make.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And this article is why you're an attorney and not in fashion.
Lindsey had final word on which of Estrella's designs would be shown. This shit can be bought at Walmart - it is NOT haute couture.
Ungaro is a house in trouble. They're trying to keep the mark alive. This is what happens when you have stockholders making decisions in areas they know nothing about.
