Suri Cruise is allegedly three years old. According to Closer Magazine, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have spent over $3M on clothes for Suri since she was born. Well, to be honest it is not all clothes. There are the $300 shoes, and the custom made Louboutin shoes as well. Oh, and a child version of Katie's $4,000 Valextra handbag. Because, honestly what 3 year old could live without one.
Suri has been spotted in clothes by Giorgio Armani, Donatella Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Burberry. Even if the designers don't make a line for children, Tom & Katie special order items for Suri. The report sounds like crap, but you know what? I bet a lot of it is true and if they really bought her a $4,000 purse when she wouldn't have known the difference if you had bought her a $10 one, then I hate to see how spoiled she is going to be when she gets older.
What does the family do with all the designer shoes and clothes? Kids grow fast. Are they keeping them? Do they have to give them to Xenu as an offering? Are they selling them to try and raise money to keep MGM in business? I am also willing to wager that Isabella & Connor have not had $3M spent on them for clothes combined for their entire lives.
All that $$ on clothes and they dress her like a granny. Put her in Mary Kate and Ashley from Walmart and she'll look cuter! Poor kid always looks like a ragamuffin, just like her mama.

She is going to turn out badly. Is it wrong of me to get a little excited at the prospect of grown up Suri gossip and the eventual tell-all? Yes it is but I cannot help it...I have a black heart.

Why, all those expensive teeny tiny little outfits might just be part of her retirement fund.

ReplyDeleteMy children were clothed in name brands too...Target; Gap Kids, from the sale rack; Gymboree, from the sale rack; The Children's Store, sometimes from the sale rack; and my favorite brand of all, Hand-Me-Downs.

ReplyDeleteThat being said, I am not anyone's mother, but it doesn't make sense to me to spend a lot of money on designer clothes for a small child. Don't those things grow like weeds? It would seem more logical to me that you would save the expensive clothes for when they are older and are able to get a couple years out of something, as well as being able to "fit in" with everyone else who are wearing expensive/fashionable clothes. I don't recall caring what I wore until high school, and that only lasted 3 years. This screams insanity to me.
MissCupcakeMagee, who would have the money to buy these clothes, other than another celebrity? If Suri is photographed in them, none of the other shallow celebrity moms would want their daughters to be seen in them.

I think it's horrible, but I can tell you, that if my mother had had 3 million dollars to spend on label clothes for me when I was a kid, she would have. She was - still is - a complete and utter label whore. Yes. I just called my mother a whore *LOL*. I had a little Burberry coat. And I would have had a lot more of she had had more money. Nothing disappointed her more than me growing up to become a punk rocker in my teenage years, and it had nothing to do with the music, which she actually liked.
ReplyDeleteAnd then when grunge happened, and I wanted some damn flannel shirts, she wouldn't buy cheap ones for me that I found, but when she saw an identical one that was by Levis, she thought it was OK even though it cost 40 bucks more. Just saying. OK, so 40 bucks isn't 3 million dollars, but you get the point.
I just hope they donate the clothes when she outgrows them.

In this economy, with so many out of work and wondering how in hell to feed their families, and children going to bed hungry, they are spending this kind of money on clothes for a child? Kids are better off in comfortable clothes they can get dirty. Nothing wrong with Goodwill - buy them, wash them with a little bleach in the water, good as new.
I thought the heeled slippers they bought her were ridiculous - and the fact that she seems to always be wearing lipstick too. Let her be a kid!
Brad and Angelina's children look happy and normal, while Suri often looks scared, tired and out of sorts. Anyone seriously think she is allowed to play and be a child?
ReplyDeleteWhen Suri was in Australia with her mum, she was dressed like a normal kid, no designer clothes. She looked so happy and was allowed to play in the park - no heels etc. Sad they feel the need to keep up 'appearances' back home.
ReplyDeleteI have two babies, a girl 18 months-old, and boy 4 months-old, and I get a lot of great clothes from consignment shopping. I find great brands, really cute stuff, frequently with tags on them.
ReplyDeleteI live in the DC metro area, which is well-to-do, so people are label-conscious. I bought a pair of never-worn Levis for my daughter for $9. Most gently worn items are $3. Since the clothes are certainly never worn out before they are outgrown, I sell them back for store credit. As you can imagine, this is ideal for Halloween costumes.
I wonder is a consignment shop in Beverly Hills would work. Think of all the upper-middle class parents who could finally afford (used) Armani, Versace, and Cavalli for their kids!
To be fair, Closer magazine isn't a particuarly reliable source...its stories mostly consist of diet plans, skinny celebrities, celebrities with cellulite, Brangelina splitting up, Brad & Jennifer reuniting, and stories about reality stars. But as reliable as the magazine is, it is one of the more believable stories.

ReplyDeleteI buy most everything in JCPenney, Children's Place, Target, and Wal-Mart. I even buy clothes that are a little too big, so the kids get at least two or three years out of them.
I love looking at the Crewcuts catalog (the kid version of J. Crew), but has anyone ever seen the prices?!? For stuff that the kids are going to outgrow in a year? Forget it!

I wouldn't spend that much money but then I am not worth 200 million dollars and some change.
If I were to have that kind of money...I don't think I would be shopping at payless for my kids anymore.
I don't like how you are willing to wager that Tom hasn't spent that much money on the other kids....I am pretty sure he spent as much money on them as the other...its just the media doesn't pay attention to them b/c both are adopted and one is mixed-race.

I'm still hoping the rumors are true that Katie is divorcing Tom. If so, then I agree with the poster above who thinks that Katie is re-selling the clothes -- but I hope the proceeds go towards her and Suri's escape from Scientology.
The Crazy Coupon Lady in me LOVES the idea of Katie reselling. I get excited when the thrift store runs a 1/2 off sale....clearly I am mad.
ReplyDeleteI kind of doubt this is true. First of all, every designer of children's clothing probably sends them stuff for free. Second, to spend $1M a year, you'd have to spend $83K a month, that's like $2700 a day. EVERY DAY. That's not feasible.

ReplyDeleteI personally love to go "Goodwill hunting". My daughter is 8, and is very tall and big for her age (not FAT, but just proportionate for her height - 55" tall). I've found GAP, The Limited, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and others, for next to nothing. It takes patience, but it works, and she always looks super cute.
$3 million on clothes yet how many pics did we see of Katie and Suri in which Katie was wearing a coat or jacket and Suri was not? WTF was that all about? $4,000 purses but can't afford to buy your toddler a friggin' coat? "Hello? Katie??" *raps on her head* "It's Reality! You in there??"

ReplyDeleteHowever, I don't have their money, therefore, I will continue to shop at Winners and Walmart and Zellers for cute little outfits for my little Princess (who doesn't 'do' dresses...) at a fraction of the cost of Suri's one purse...
Oh, and those little heeled shoes she had on? Those made me cringe. I can't believe the footwear parents put on their growing kids' feet! Yeah, they're cute, but the body isn't done growing and is full of growth plates. Do you know how many kids' feet my husband has to 'fix' every DAY from poor footwear choices on the parents' part? And don't get me started on those stupid 'heelies', damn things are SO dangerous...
