Mackenzie Phillips Ruined Bijou Phillips' Life

When Mackenzie Phillips went on Oprah last week to discuss how her father had sex with her for ten years, both Chynna Phillips and Bijou Phillips came out and said that Mackenzie had told them the same story years ago. Some people took that admission as support or belief that it actually happened. While Chynna might believe it happened, Bijou doesn't and says that when Mackenzie told her about the sex that Bijou's life was ruined.

As is common today, Bijou didn't tell a reporter, she just decided to Twitter about it. Here are her messages all combined in to one easy to read paragraph.

"Exploiting the history of our family and the death of our father John Phillips for the release of a book is disgusting. Allegations of sexual abuse are not only hurtful, but malicious when he is not here to defend himself. When I was young my sister told me about this - it ruined my life and my relationship with my father. Up till that point, I was a normal kid. I got good grades, loved my horse, was pretty innocent. I moved out to NYC at 13. Started doing drugs, did not talk to my Dad anymore... I was deeply f**ked up. I'm 29 now, I've talked to everyone who was around during that time, I've asked the hard questions. I do not believe my sister. Our father is many things, this is not one of them. My dad and I made up when I was 20, a year before he died. I'm sad I lost those years with him, and I lost those years at home."

Didn't Bijou move out of the house at 13 to become a model? She makes it sound like Mackenzie told her and that she ran away to New York at 13 to get away from it all. Maybe they teach you to try and make things cloudy in Scientology. I'm not saying I 100% believe Mackenzie, and I think that a revelation like that would alter the relationship you have with your parent, but, and this is a big but, how come she didn't talk to her dad about it? There is no indication he did anything like this with Bijou so why did it lead her to taking drugs and having a messed up life? Why did she believe Mackenzie without talking to her dad about it? I just think there are some parts of the story we are not getting from both sides.

  1. And maybe she owes a great big debt of gratitude to her sister that Daddy didn't get the chance to shoot her up with drugs and screw her.

But I don't think the abuse allegations had anything to do with Bijou moving to NY at 13 and getting involved in drugs on her own. Besides, I don't believe 95% of what comes out of a Sciento's mouth.

I am sure Mackenzie is exploiting the family history for the release of her book. John Phillips did it, too, for his own book.

    Effed up family.

  2. maybe i am being naive but saying your father have an intimate relationship with you is one hell of a lie to tell...

also - did anyone catch her the second time she was on oprah? when the other guy in the mamma's and pappa's daughter spoke out in support of mackenzie and said lots of people knew for years that it was going on? i mean why would she lie about that as an outsider?

what an effed up family. i mean make a private phone call if you have something to say...dont write a tell all or go on your twitter.

  3. I agree with Enty that there's more to this story. However, I just don't care! :-D

  4. Wow Bijou is some kind of hard 29. Don't do drugs kids.

  5. abusers do not always violate all of their kids. trying to figure out why one was affected and not the others is akin to rocket science.

some men are good to their wives, but are abusive to their kids and vice versa.

people can and do show different sides of themselves to various folks. i liked chynna's oprah interview and appreciated how mckenzie was available.

    1. Well said. People treat people differently, otherwise we'd all have the same friends and think the same about everyone.

  7. What's sad is that, if this is true, lots of people knew and DID NOTHING ABOUT IT.

Calls to Child Protective Services are anonymous.

Yeah. Twitter about it. What a moron.

  8. also the other male member's daughter of the mamas and the papas stated that what mckenzie says is true.

  10. Lots of folks in denial. And blaming the victim. So wrong, in so many ways.

  11. WHAAA! My life is so hard. I hate my sister she ruined my life. She exploited us and I hate the publicity so I am going to twitter about it. UGH.

This ragged girl has annoyed me for years. I am sure her being a 13 year old model had nothing to do with her drug abuse.

  12. Naturally Bijou has to blame someone else that her life got screwed up. Until she found Scio, of course.

Someone, anyone - please tell me where both their mother's were for all that time.

  13. I saw China on Oprah and I was in agreement with what she was saying. Until suddenly Oprah is plugging China's new CD that just happens to be released the following week. Something about all of this just seems like total BS to me. I would hate to doubt Mackenzie about what she might have gone through, but why does this revelation have to come via book sales? And why does her so called loving sister have to go on TV to sort-of-not-really defend her sister all the while plugging her newest CD?

  14. mikey, this is what imdb says about Genevieve Waite:

One daughter, Bijou Phillips, model/singer/actress, born under interesting circumstances on April Fool's day, 1980, at the family home in Connecticut on the sofa while her parents were in the process of recovery.

She and John Phillips were divorced in 1985. Also, imdb states that Bijou, at age 13, became a model to escape boarding school.

  15. Let me get this straight. Your half sister tells you that she has been the victim of incest at the hands of your father, and it ruined YOUR life? Get a grip.

  16. if she was truly offended she'd keep quiet about this. the whole family has a way over developed sense of importance. The kids, ex wife's all of them!!!

  17. That is one hard lookin kid. I seriously doubt that MacKenzie's revelation was the sole reason her life went off track.

  18. Bijou Phillips was removed from her parents when she was three as they were deemed "unfit" and placed in foster care. She remained in foster care until John Phillips convinced the courts that he could care for his daughter. Damaged children often rewrite their histories it is easier to live in delusion, than to face the painful reality John Phillips was a monster and the term unfit parent is not adequate.

  20. Yeah, I am sure the Mackenzie told you that to fuck up your life, adn to make sure she could write a book about it fifteen years later. Well-played.

  21. C Dan - great article you found and it explains so much. Basically her life was ruined the moment she was born. Blaming MP now - too easy.

  22. C Dan VERY interesting. Serious Daddy issues...not that I can blame her with a Dad like that. I wish she would go back and read that interview before she twitters again.

  23. thanks C Dan... i was looking for the same interview cuz i read it last week. she needs to make up one story adn stick to it!

  24. Wasn't Bijou the one who pulled out all of her teeth and got dentures because she was too lazy to take care of her teeth?

Notice how she made McKenzie's abuse all about HER. What a spoiled brat.

  25. dang, C Dan, e-mail that link to Enty. I think that whenever people report what Bijou is saying now, they should add that link as an addendum.

Bijou is obviously welcoming this attention.

  26. I bet Scientology does the same thing for incest that it does for homosexuality. Make people stop feeling guilty about it because it was all Xenu's fault, or something, then blackmail you with the evidence.

  27. I think she took down her twitter posts.

  28. Bijou has ferocious nipples and is one hell of a good fuck in between the sheets. Mackenzie is a bowser. TEAM BIJOU!

  29. Sara Bellum: I recalled something about her teeth too. Don't know if they're dentures but I remember an interviewer noting she seemed hygenically-challenged and needed extensive dental work in her rotten mouth.

  30. I don't know - but I think Mackenzie comes off as more authentic.

I have read most of the book.

Not only does she admit that the affair with her father at some point became consensual and that she got pregnant & didn't know if the baby was her fathers or her husbands - she also admits she smoked coke until she was 6 mos. pregnant and regularly did coke in front of her little brother who was 7-10 at the time.

I mean - there's no way to clean all of that up.

It hardly seems like a has-been looking for adulation and attention and to recapture some lost glory.

    Not a vanity project.

  31. Stepmother Michelle Phillips said that Mackenzie is lying. I guess she would say that because she did nothing at the time to help her stepdaughter. Perhaps Michelle was too stoned?

  32. Yes, Bijou was featured in a Jane magazine several years ago, getting her teeth pulled out and "fake f*ckers" (her words) put in. She said it was because of her crappy childhood she never had any proper dental work done. Actually, considering how she was born (in a living room in the boonies in the middle of nowhere to junkie parents), she's pretty lucky to have lived at all. Weird how she changed her tune about her family.

  33. poor, poor baby! (not) I thought Scientology and Xenu was supposed to be able to fix all that.

  34. OK I read the article.

    http://www.indexmagazine.com/interviews/bijou_phillips.shtml

Very interesting indeed. No sugar coating there. She used to be the type that tells it like it is - apparently not anymore. It basically corroborates Mackenzie's story, in my opinion. With an interview like that, how can she be indignant when Mackenzie comes out with an infinitely more classy and thorough treatment? Don't care if she was 20 when she gave the interview. It still stands. Mackenzie at just under 50 has grown a lot, and is totally believable. Pitiful that many people think she's lying. Let them. They don't matter.

  35. i'm going back to read the interview after i type this.
i think mackenzie and i are about the same age.
in those days, you didn't just pick up the phone and say daddy had been diddling you (or in my case, uncle). you didn't tell, because there wasn't really anything anyone could do to help you. and daddy was a big star, someone with a lot of fans.
hell, i loved the mamas and the papas. i think even my parents did. just like people trusted the law back then, and stood up for their own.
i didn't tell anybody about what happened to me until i was 16, and i was lucky that "uncle" didn't go that far... at least that i remember. the friend i told was outraged, which was encouraging to me, but i still felt there was nothing i could do.
in my case, only now are things being brought up, now that he's dead. i was lucky. coulda been luckier, but still lucky.
i think mac had to keep it to herself until his death. and this is the age when people write biographies. plus, she and valerie b. have reconnected in a big way, that helps.
i think it's also hugely possible that bijou was never touched. i doubt it, but it might have happened, because of the age difference between the two sisters.
mac has been fucked up all her life. people want to know. and this book could help somebody, why shouldn't she write it? i know i'm going to read it.
just because john phillips was a cultural icon doesn't mean shit. much as i loved their music, i can see this happening in so many ways.
i do remember years ago that mac had had nothing to do with her father for years, and then they got back into each other's lives. i also remember that her drug problems came and went.
as for bijou, is it just me, or did she not have the fame that mackenzie had?
    team mackenzie.

  36. I'm not sure what to make of this.
This woman says she had a 10 year long consensual sexual relationship with her father that started when she was 18... While this is super-sick stuff, I'm not sure I can put the blame solely on him. If you're old enough to vote, you're old enough to know that having sex with your das is not such a good idea. And apparently, they were both heavy drug users. Dunno... of course, he as the older person is more to blame, and he is definitely guilty of some seriously bad parenting (doing drugs with his own children etc) but she was an adult as well... she says she felt guilt and shame, but maybe so did he. There is no other evidence suggesting he was a pedophile or that he abused his other daughters (or any other women). In any case, it is all very sad.
