Don't Read This If You Get Sick Easily

Maybe right now you are sitting in front of your computer at a job you don't particularly care for but are desperate to keep because of the economy. Sure, the pay is for crap, but you get some insurance and you don't have to work weekends. Or, maybe you are at home and unemployed and wondering how you are going to make ends meet this month. Maybe you are at home with the kids wondering if your significant other is going to be laid off.

So, to ease your pain you turn on the television and The Hills is on. In fact just this past weekend I think they had a Hills marathon to get everyone ready for the next season. Have you sat there and looked at them and wondered just how much they are getting paid? Well, The Daily Beast found out how much each cast member is making. The least any regular on the show makes is $65,000 an episode. Yes, for having no skill at all and making no contribution to society other than annoying us, the minimum anyone makes on that show in one week is more than what 75% of the people in the US make in a year. This is not about talent or a skill like acting. It is just someone who was good looking in high school and MTV decided they fit the bill. No different from Real World just shot differently. The most anyone makes on the show? Lauren Conrad was making the most. She was making $125K an episode or $2.5M a year and she walked away from it this year. How much is she making in other promotional events that she can walk away from $2.5M a year? It won't last. She will come back. The current leader in salaries is Audrina Patridge who makes about $100K an episode.

Shoot me now.

What did I do wrong in my past life to deserve this? Sigh.

  4. I hate people.

Herein lies the answer to the question a commenter voiced the other day, regarding why we hate on celebrities. Even the realitards make more a week than I will EVER make in a year's time. Even the freaking F-list.

    I think I need a stiff drink.

  5. I am sitting at home drinking a Starbucks, procrastinating on doing some school reading, and making no money, but I am WAY better off than those fools who make 100 grand an episode. 10 years from now I'll be sitting in my office somewhere raking in the cash while those people will be working the ho stroll, or selling their used Kleenex on ebay. I'm not too worried about it.

  6. This is truly disheartening. These people are absolutely idiotic, and the least one makes more than a public elementary school teacher with a Master's Degree will ever be able to make in a year. No wonder our country is going to hell in a handbasket.

  7. You're right, I am feeling very nauseous right now!

I guess as long as people watch this crap, they'll get paid all that money. It's pathetic!

  8. i'm not going to hate. obviously MTV makes shit loads off them so they are being paid accordingly. let's be honest,a lot of real actors skate by on easy jobs and are paid squillions to sit in a trailer 7 hours a day, i find this no different.

and hell ya, i will be watching LOL.

  9. Barf ... gotta run to the bathroom.

    Ugh.

Seriously makes me sick. I honestly do not understand the appeal of Lauren Conrad!!!!

Question should be - wtf did they do right in their past lives to deserve this???

  10. Actually, I should have read the other comments before I spilled the haterade.

Sue Ellen, that's exactly the right kind of thiking -- right on!

  11. Exactly, Jax. MTV makes a ton of money off of them so why shouldn't they get a cut? Paris hilton is the one that makes me sick. She does NOTHING, and makes money.

  12. Ha! Thanks Anonmom, but please feel free to spill the hate before you read the previous comments. I love reading the first instincts people have when they read something.

I also agree with you on the appeal of LC and the rest of them. I guess the appeal is something only known to the demographic that watches it.

Slightly off topic: One sick day I layed in bed and watched all three seasons of Laguna Beach(don't judge!) and I though LC was more than a little sad and pathetic the way she played all coy and lame with Stephen. Actually, all the guys she liked. People like that have no conception about how the world really works because they have parents who spoil them senseless and throw money at their mistakes.

Sorry for the novel there, I just went off on a rant!

  13. Who the hell even watches this crap? It sickens me that these assholes make that much money and great shows like Arrested Development and The Wire were canceled before their prime. (Yes, I know, that pretty much surmises all of stuffwhitepeople.com's blog in one rant, but whatever.)

The Hills, Laguna Beach, MTV, VH1 and all that garbage ain't worth your time. They're the perezehilton.com of TV. Pass.

  14. I think my question for the media gods is -- why, of ALL people, was Lauren Conrad deemed the star, and why, for pete's sake, is she on a zillion magazine covers being lauded for her "talents" and given clothing lines, etc???? I just don't get it.

Saw this article in the LA Times yesterday and it's interesting - Kristin Cavallieri comes out and says flat out that's it's not real, and I do appreciate hearing that from her.

  15. @ rj -

yepp take it from an actual elementary teacher with a master's degree...id be lucky if i made $2.5 million in a LIFETIME!

these twats have no idea how good they it - hope they save up that money for when the deals dry up seeing as they have no talent what so ever and an expiration date

  16. My MBA barely affords me to live... and these girls make in one episode what I aspire to make in a year. It's so damn sad.

  17. says a lot about our society.

  18. Meh. If I could make 65 grand for doing nothing, I'd take it. Even if it meant people hating me. I'd blame it on the editing and go on a sweet vacation.

How undeserved. And yeah, I think I just might puke. Never watched the show, other than my teenage sister forcing me to watch about fifteen minutes of Audrina and some blonde girl have the most vapid, mind-numbing conversation ever, about The Couple Who Must Not Be Names. THIS is what passes for entertainment these days?

It sickens me to see talentless nobodies who will be in the bowels of obscurity in a few years raking in the dough, while real hardworking, useful people like teachers, police, firefighters, nurses, etc. are often low paid and have to scrape by. It's shameful.

  20. What I find funny is that Speidi always say "We make $xxx." By combining their salaries, they make it sound like they tried to make it sound like they were making more than LC.

  21. I mix chemo for patients with cancer and don't make anywhere near $65 thousd in a year.

I have to replace my porch due to termites or carpenter ants or some freaking bug and I find out this?

Where's the freaking drinks? This all might see more logical after a few Jamesons.

  22. Did you have to tell us that?? That was just plain cruel.

  23. what's even sadder is that the people behind the scenes that do the really hard work don't even make this kind of money.

and my father wouldn't let me major in theatre arts. or music.

mr. bunny does have his masters in computer science.
i've always wanted him to get his doctorate (DOCTOR AND MRS. BUNNY has such a nice ring to it!), but he would have actually lost money in his previous job.
and it wouldn't mean shit in his current position. at least not at his age, now. and he's a lot more entertaining that these idiots!
