Paula Abdul Should Fire Her New Manager
As you probably know by now Paula Abdul quit American Idol last night and told the world via Twitter. Ryan Seacrest says Paula is a dear friend but he only found out the same way all of us did. I blame her manager. Paula recently switched managers and apparently this guy convinced her she was worth way more than $3M a year and she should play hard ball and then the producers would back down. It appears that strategy didn't pay off and I think Paula will never earn $3M a year again hosting a show. Even if someone does pay her that much there is no way it will give her the exposure that American Idol has given her. It is hard to fathom what her manager said to convince her that walking away from American Idol would do to improve her career. Her attempts at doing things in addition to Idol have not ever worked. Whether it was her own reality show or her new album, things have not worked. It didn't really matter though because there she was each week seen by millions of people and making a very decent living not doing much of anything.
The exposure also allowed her to get endorsements and appearance fees which will be dramatically reduced now and her fee will be much lower also. Judging by the comments all over the internet, she will be missed on the show. The thing is people are missing her now but will they actually follow through on their promises to not watch the show without her on it? I doubt it.
I think Paula should swallow some pride and go back in and ask for the same amount of money or a little raise and then say something to the effect that she couldn't disappoint all her fans. Then she should fire her manager.
I still say she was fired but the producers allowed her to safe face and say she quit.
ReplyDeleteshe'll fire the manager when she sees herself slipping back into obscurity...eep.
ReplyDeleteIn this photo, Paula looks like Lola from Copacabana- the old one.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see why Ryan Seacrest will be making 15 million a year.He is not that great as a host and most people find him annoying.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking this is not unlike a rumored page from disco history...at the height of her fame and popularity, Donna Summer went to her label and said she wanted to do the Wanderer album. Her label said, no, you're disco.
ReplyDeleteDonna said, I'll leave and go back to the church and sing.... Her label backed down and let her do the album, which laid a big old stinky egg.
Next, she came back and said I want to try something else again, and the label said no...she made the same threat and they said essentially, don't let the door hit ya.
I'm thinking Paula is probably shtupping the manager, and he got in waaaaaaaaay over his head, made a threat and they said "See ya", solving their problems with Paula once and for all, and without making them seem like the bad guys.
I agree she's made a mistake on this one, but I think she'll continue to do things behind the scense (writing, producing) that will ensure she's just fine financially. Frankly, she annoyed the shit out of me, so I'm ok with this.
ReplyDeleteWe know the public has a short attention span...wait, what was the topic?
ReplyDeleteOh ya, Paula Abdul.
Personally, I think this may all be a big hoax to get some attention. I hope it works out in Paula's favor. It's messed up that Ryan and Simon make so much more money. Hell, Kara would probably pay Fox to stay on the show.
I think alot of people, especially the tabs, are going to miss Paula's crazy ass. I know I will, even though I don't watch the show faithfully. She's the only unpredictable thing on Idol anyway.
i heard Nigel Lythgoe offered her SYTYCD. better suited to her, let's be real, did any of us think she was relevant as a singing judge?
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll miss her too much. I think I'm the only person in America who kind of likes Kara. I'm torn about how I feel about this - either she should make as much as her male cohorts OR she has a big drug problem and they didn't want her back. Can't decide.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn about this. If the offer of 3 mil was rejected by her, she most likely won't get that else where. Also, it is a little disrespectful to have been offered way too less than Ryan Seacrust. Ah, but, then on the other hand, it was getting more obvious with each season that she was getting higher than a kite. It was just plain embarrassing to watch at times.
ReplyDeleteI JUST DON'T KNOW YET ABOUT THIS ONE.
I think she was the only thing worth watching on that show. She was hysterical.
ReplyDeleteI will miss Paula - she was as nutty as they come, but she made for some great LOL moments. The show could become too "serious" and not as entertaining as when Paula was dispensing some nonsense of words strung together. Will I still watch? of course!
ReplyDeleteWasn't this the speculation when Kara was announced as the 4th judge? That the producers were setting the stage for Paula to leave?
@ Ms. Cool - I kinda like Kara, too. Less sappy, more qualified than Paula, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI think she deserved to make more money. If Seacrest is getting $45M and Simon is getting $100M - she deserved to get $20M.
ReplyDeleteI think it will be really boring without Paula. I love Simon, but he needs some crazy to offset his bluntness. Randy and Kara are boring and take themselves way too seriously. Bring back the crazy train!
ReplyDeleteThe only one on that show who deserves the big bucks to stay is Simon. Randy, Paula, Kara, Ryan - they are all very replaceable. Give Simon the huge bucks and the rest should make around the same amount.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Enty, that Paula should go back begging to take whatever money she should get from Idol. She's lucky to have this gig.
Nigel's meeting with Paula this weekend in Vegas. I have no doubt he'll arrange the deal.
ReplyDeleteOh, and he's also offering her a guest spot on So You Think You Can Dance. As long as she's only on one or two eps, I can't wait to see the crazy she'll bring to the show!
ReplyDeleteI'll miss Paula's stoned ass comments but that is about it. She just made a hell of a career move. Just ask Shelley Long about those bold decisions. See ya on Celebrity Rehab next year Paula! Can't wait!!!
ReplyDeleteShe probably could have done both Idol and guested on Dance.
ReplyDeleteGiven a choice between millions and zero, is there really any choice?
The gravy train was going to stop sometime. Randy Jackson will be next.
ReplyDeleteHey, it ain't ova 'till it's ova -- I think she'll be back. This is a good scare and they'll throw a couple more mil at her and she'll say yes.
ReplyDeletemaybe the shows no fun when sober?
ReplyDeleteI cannot stand Kara. She's a big ole goose egg. I will miss Paula, she is out of her rabid-ass mind.
