What former Golden Globe Best Actor nominee has fallen so far down the acting ladder that earlier this week he was forced to audition against 50 other actors for a fast food commercial?
Definitely NOT John Cameron Mitchell - he's not doing any acting right now, but he IS currently directing his third movie. Nicole Kidman and Aaron Ekhart are the leads.
I guess if we see a Globe nominee in a fast food commercial, we'll have the answer, huh? Since it could potentially be a regional commercial, we'll all need to keep our eyes peeled and report back here.
@Green Wave Gal: I don't see why not but it'd be less gobsmacking if it were a TV actor, I think. We tend to put movie actors on higher pedestals than TV actors. There're so many more TV actors; movie actors are more precious. (I'm sure someone will correct me really hard if I'm wrong! :-)
Terrance Howard? I think he had some domestic abuse charges against him at some point, didn't he? I could see that working against him careerwise. It seemed like he was very up and coming at one point, but not so much anymore...
@the evil jax: "Oooh ,eat me i'm a danish!" will now be stuck in my head for 72 hours. Not only am I a Hulce fan, but I was also a massive Falco fan. You's evil, I tell ya, eeeevil!
@Jax: OMG I'm dying. I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish ooh ooh I'm a Danish
This list could be endless. Not worth it to me to play the guessing game for this one. ENTY, might have well said, that the actor once wore black to an awards show.
Hopefully tomorrow's blind item will be more realistic.
Haley Joel's nomination was supporting; Tom Sizemore's nomination is for TV (which we don't know whether this blind is about).
This is a blind because it's pretty mortifying.
I've been working on the word "ladder," wondering whether it's a hint. Tim Robbins was in "Jacob's Ladder," and while he has Globe nominations for leading actor, he's also won a globe for a supporting role, so I'm not sure whether he would take him out of contention. If it doesn't, he fits (if "ladder" is a hint). His career's been nothing but misfires since "Mystic River" six years ago.
I'm sure Tim Robbins isn't desperate enough to audition for fast food yet. It is sad to see movie actors in commercials that aren't exactly high profile.
There's a really talented (at least I think so) Canadian actor who appears in a Tim Horton's commercial. Joel S. Keller. He was the bi brother-in-law from The Hanging Garden (great film). Really saddened me to see him in a commercial.
As for this blind - I have to agree that it is vague.
Tom Hulce + ladder = Animal House. Was there a scene with him on a ladder?
I was thrashing around with the Tim Robbins guess. Tom Hulce was my only real one besides the Nolte and Busey shots, but he's so active on Broadway that I can't see him going for a freaking fast food commercial. That's why I was wondering whether there's a clue in here. Otherwise, this blind is as helpful as a Daily Mirror blind (and yesterday, we actually got a Mirror item that gave itself away! That was remarkable! Usually, they're devoid of anything useful! "Which supermodel is sniffing coke?").
I'm ruling out Tim Robbins, Gary Busey, Tom Hulce, Nick Nolte, Haley Joel Osment, and anyone else that has ever been nominated for an Oscar. If the answer was any of them, I think the blind would refer to Oscar nominee vs. Golden Globe nominee.
Not Tom Hulce (love him!). As Paisley said, he's Oscar nominated. Plus he's a very successful Broadway producer. I think if Tom wanted to act in movies again, he'd have no trouble landing a part (he'd probably have to lose a LOT of weight and get rid of the gray. How on Earth did Pinto get so old looking?)
Also, it was John Belushi on the ladder peering into the sorority house, not Tom's character.
@Paisley: You make an excellent point. Back to the drawing board. Now we have to think of Globe nominees who weren't also Oscar nominees ... which most likely means we're looking for actos who were nominated for leads roles ON TV. I think Green Wave Gal was steering us in the right direction way back up nar the top, and we dismissed her out of hand. Our bad!
All these negative waves against Tom Hulce ... : ( so sad!!
But .. Matt LaBlanc comes screaming into mind - 2003 Nominee for the Golden Globe for Actor in a Comedy or Musical for Friends. And he hasn't done shit since the POS show he was one died a few years ago.
The Friends wouldn't ever have to work again with all the $$ they made on the show and royalties. I can't imagine Matt would have to audition for a commercial.
GreenWG made my point. Y'all are picking people who are way too famous to have to audition. If he were really desperate, somebody like Matt LeBlanc could get a headline gig for one of those second tier-chains.
I think it's Kieran Culkin. The parents put those kids to work very young, and he has a lot of siblings. Much more pressure to make a buck.
And to all those who are saying wait until the commercial comes out: The blind doesn't say he got the job, maybe he was just spotted there.
LOL@Jax! I just started reading and taking a sip of coffee which I have now spilt down my shirt. I wonder if it is acceptable to start singing Falco's song when anyone asks me what happened.
I liked the Kieran Culkin guess. Makes the most sense to me.
Hayden Christensen, he was nominated for Life As A House. I always think of him coz I love him, but ever since he took up with Rachel Bilson, his career is in the toilet and he hasn't done squat.
Besides those already mentioned, it could be one of these guys:
Daniel Benzali
Philip Casnof
Paul LeMat
Lance Henriksen
Lionel Jeffries (very old, so doubtful)
Stathis Giallelis (retired from acting and went to the United Nations International School in Manhattan, New York, working as a child supervisor and mentor. He retired in the summer of 2008, so maybe he's getting his toes wet at fast food commercial auditions!)
Richard Hatch
Michael Ealy
Brendan Boone (doesn't even get a WIKI entry(!), nominated for lead in the series "Garrison's Gorillas" from 1967--the real dark horse on this list.)
Damian Lewis
Troy Garity
This gleaned from a cursory look at GG nominees in a lead actor role for film and television drama, comedy/musical and miniseries.
there's no shame in commercials anymore (unless it's burger king-ugh), the residuals can keep one warm and toasty for years.
but to all of you complaining that this is a hard one: are you the same ones that were complaining about the easy ones? sheesh!
i have no guesses. as long as it's not an incredibly annoying person, in an incredibly annoying ad that runs every 13 minutes on scifi or usa durning marathons.
Aw...thanks all for the fond memories of Amadeus and Falco - two things I love. In fact, I have that Falco album - the whole thing is great :) I like the Culkin guess.
I'm guessing it's not Jason Alexander, he's got a role in an upcoming t.v. mini-series. Meteor, I think it's called. Other than that, well, I have no clue.
Pretty sure it's not Culkin - there's a lot of pretty big projects in the pipeline. I the the kid is a great actor. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001085/
Gee Enty, could you have made this any more vague?!!?
ReplyDeletelol
Too hard for me, anyone?
Agreed, MM. Not even a hint to movie or TV? Too similar to NY Daily BIs.
ReplyDeleteTom Hulce? (Amadeus)
ReplyDeleteChiwetel Ejiofor.
ReplyDeleteJust because I like the name.
Cuba Gooding
ReplyDeleteMM, I guess we could check Globe nominees?
ReplyDeleteNah, I'll just wait for the smart posters to log in.
I have seen some familiar faces lately in commercials like Ed Begley, Jr.
I wish Enty would have at least given us a year or time frame in which this guy was nominated.
ReplyDeleteIt's no fun when we have no chance of figuring out who the BI refers to, lol.
John Cameron Mitchell? Has done nothing since 2006, and has nothing lined up
ReplyDeleteOh hell, I suck at these. He could give me a year, timeframe, initials, and hair color and I'd still be stumped.
ReplyDeleteRandom guess...Kieran Culkin...Best Actor nominee for "Igby Goes Down"...as in "down the acting ladder."
ReplyDeleteTom Cruise.
ReplyDelete(I know, I know. Wishful thinking.)
Tom Hulce (he was the lead in Amadeus)
ReplyDeleteHedwig would never do a fast food commercial! I can't even imagine it, omg, the sacrilege.
ReplyDeletethose commercials ed begley jr. is in are hilarious.
ReplyDeletebut OUCH for this guy. i hate tom hulce so i hope it's him.
Definitely NOT John Cameron Mitchell - he's not doing any acting right now, but he IS currently directing his third movie. Nicole Kidman and Aaron Ekhart are the leads.
ReplyDeleteTom Hulce was my immediate thought, though I dearly hope it's not him because of my deep and abiding love for "Dominic and Eugene."
ReplyDeleteMy other thought is Nick Nolte, simply because he seems so unemployable.
Well, by the same token, that'd make Gary Busey a potential answer to the blind, too.
I guess if we see a Globe nominee in a fast food commercial, we'll have the answer, huh? Since it could potentially be a regional commercial, we'll all need to keep our eyes peeled and report back here.
ReplyDeleteHow cringe-worthy!
couldn't it be a Golden Globe TV nominee also?
ReplyDeleteburgers or chicken??
ReplyDeletei like the tom hulce guess.
maybe its for dunbkin donuts to the theme of Falco's Amadeus.
"Oooh ,eat me i'm a danish!"

ReplyDeletenancer, why the hate for Tom Hulce? I mean, I don't
ReplyDeletelove him but I guess I don't anything him? Is there
a story?
@Jax: OMG I'm dying.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish

ReplyDeleteHopefully tomorrow's blind item will be more realistic.
To be honest I don't see why this is a BI at all. It's not bad behavior or a private thing.
ReplyDeleteHow about the kid from the Six Sense? Haley Joel Osmet?
ReplyDeleteTom Sizemore.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, we know that Tom Sizemore needs rehab and/or meth money. Was he ever nominated?
ReplyDeleteHaley Joel's nomination was supporting; Tom Sizemore's nomination is for TV (which we don't know whether this blind is about).
ReplyDeleteThis is a blind because it's pretty mortifying.

ReplyDeleteA very wild guess...
ReplyDeleteJoaquin Phoenix.
Golden Globe for "Walk The Line"
Starred in "Ladder 49".
What part would he play in a fast food commercial? The burger? The pickle? The lattuce?
I'm ruling out Tim Robbins, Gary Busey, Tom Hulce, Nick Nolte, Haley Joel Osment, and anyone else that has ever been nominated for an Oscar. If the answer was any of them, I think the blind would refer to Oscar nominee vs. Golden Globe nominee.

Remember Kevin Bacon in AH? Good times.

ReplyDeleteYou guys now have me picturing Casey Affleck filming Joaquin Phoenix rapping "I'm a danish" in a new Dunkin Donuts ad. Thanks! lol
ReplyDeletePaul Hogan (Croc. Dundee)-he won in 86/87 for Croc. Dundee.
ReplyDelete(please maybe next time could you tell us for TV or Movie. Thank you.)
Who cares? Everybody is doing commercials now.
ReplyDeletewhen that fast food commercial comes out you will have my guess
ReplyDeleteAll these negative waves against Tom Hulce ... : ( so sad!!
ReplyDeleteBut .. Matt LaBlanc comes screaming into mind - 2003 Nominee for the Golden Globe for Actor in a Comedy or Musical for Friends. And he hasn't done shit since the POS show he was one died a few years ago.
Whoopsie Daisy! How about on .. "the POS show he was ON died a few years ago"!!
ReplyDeleteI think the winner is Kieran Culkin.
ReplyDeleteGood guessing guys! :D
Matt LeBlanc sounds just right to me. And he looks like a danish.
ReplyDeleteHave you looked at the other people in Jacob's Ladder that would also fit - but maybe nominated in another role:
ReplyDeleteJason Alexander
Eriq LaSalle
Ving Rhames
HMMMM. And I hate Tim Robbins but Shawshank was awesome.
@Binky: Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Friends wouldn't ever have to work again with all the $$ they made on the show and royalties. I can't imagine Matt would have to audition for a commercial.
Tom Cruise

ReplyDeleteHere guys, have at it. This includes lists of all the nominees for each year (when available).

OT, but Patricia Arquette called off her divorce. Could this be the blind reveal you all were so dead on about?
ReplyDeleteColm Meaney
ReplyDeleteJust saw Michael Tucker in a commercial the other day.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Hamilton
ReplyDeleteHe's done commercials.

ReplyDeleteLOL! I'm sure if I was an extra on that set and heard that I'd spit my coffee! Watch out! You two are made for advertising...
The answer is Tom Hulse
ReplyDeleteEdward Furlong?
ReplyDeleteDijea
ReplyDeleteTim Robbins was in Howard the Duck. Son watched it the other day and I caught glimpses. THAT is my story and I'm, well, you know..
..admitting to the internet that I watched Howard the Duck.
nunaurbiz - good ones!
ReplyDeleteSo many actors got scammed by Bernie Madoff we are going to be seeing more old favorites real soon.
Do you think Brooke Shields wants to do ads for eyelash growing crap and toothpaste and all the other stuff she is hawking?
If I had to choose any actor I feel compassion for it would be her (Brooke).
Working/exploited since she was a few months old. Still she went for and COMPLETED a University BA.
I'd rah rah Yale- but seriously what school is going to NOT let a celeb enter as a freshman?
Pretty sure it's not Culkin - there's a lot of pretty big projects in the pipeline. I the the kid is a great actor.
