Neil Patrick Harris - Emmy Host

Variety is reporting that Neil Patrick Harris is thisclose to hosting the Emmy Awards. Not only will I record the show if he ends up hosting, but I might have to drag my butt out of the basement and actually attend the show. I don't want to miss him hosting. I could kick myself for missing him host the Writers Guild Awards. They weren't on television but I have heard repeatedly how great he was at it. I didn't watch the Tony Awards so someone can probably share how good he was at that, and he was great hosting the TV Land Awards. But this is the Emmy's. This is the big time. It is so big time that 5 reality show hosts were in charge last year. You remember that don't you? Probably the worst idea in the history of hosting. This is probably one of the best.

So, I think we are agreed. Hugh Jackman or Jon Stewart for the Academy Awards every year and Neil Patrick Harris or Ellen for the Emmy Awards. Done and done. I feel good that we accomplished something today. I think we should tackle the economy next.

  1. Replace Ellen with Conan

  2. Conan's intro to the Emmy's a few years back is still one of my favorite all time Emmy moments.

  3. I think it's amazing that Doogie Howser M.D. turned out to be such a gifted and appealing entertainer. And a role model as well.

Who would have thunk it? He was just a routine teen star on a routine show.

In another dimension it could have been Frankie Munz or Zak from Saved By the Bell.

  4. I'll watch the Emmy's if NPH hosts!

I've never read any negative items about him. Everyone says he is a nice person, and that makes me happy for some reason.

  5. For a child actor Doogie turned out pretty damn good!

  6. I've heard many actors won't come out b/c they fear they will not be believed as straight in roles. Barney Stentson never leads me thinking - ha! that's funny but I know you really prefer men. Kudos to his acting.

  7. I really like him. I never watched HIMYM but I like him. In interviews he just seems really normal and grounded. He's obviously not afraid of making fun of himself, and I can appreciate that in a person *L*. And I was a HUGE fan of Dr. Howser, too :)

  8. I saw parts of the Tony Awards this year (don't judge) and he did a great job. What sucks is that I turned on the TV 5 seconds after the Bret Michaels incident. Ha.

If I do ever watch HIMYM, it's to watch him.

  10. I love HIMYM, but Neil Patrick Harris absolutely steals the show. I would love for him to not only host the Emmys, but be nominated as well.

  11. That Bret Michaels incident was priceless. Laughing now just thinking about it.

  12. Nutty Flavor, thanks for reminding me. I think I might have to go watch that video again.

  13. conan was awesome. so was letterman. "no!" you say. "david letterman didn't act in a way befitting something as hallowed as the oscars!" he absolutely did. He treated it like exactly the mindless tripe that it is. It's not the nobel ceremony. It's a pissing awards show for entitled white assholes. David put it on the level it should be.

Am I the only person on earth who just can't stand Conan?

  15. bits of moxy, awesomely, he was even completely believably straight playing himself in the Harold & Kumar movies, even after he came out. :) "It's a fucking sausage fest in here, bros. Let's get some poontang, THEN we'll go to White Castle." Love him so much.

Enty, PLEASE go to the Emmys for us!!! And if you do, you need to open a twitter account so we can get live updates. :)

  16. Yay, it's official! Ausiello just announced they sealed the deal!

  17. No, Syko, you're not the only person who can't stand Conan!

I love NPH, but I want to see Craig Ferguson host an awards show. He would be hilarious and wonderful (as he is on his show every night).

  18. I don't care for Conan either. Blah!

I'll watch NPH do Emmys because he is great no matter what he's in
and would LOVE Ferguson to do them or any other awards show. He is awesome!

  19. Conan is not my cup of tea. I used to love Letterman back in the first few seasons of his old show when Merrill Markoe was the head writer. It was very hip without being smug.

NPH is very cool and very hot.

I loves me some Hugh Jackman too.

  20. Dr Horrible! NPH is so great in that with Nathan Fillion.

Hmm. a NPH/NF sangwich. HMMMMM Why you gay NPH? :(

Still love you to death though.

  21. EXCELLENT!
i adore him, and we loved doogie, too! awards shows bore me to tears most of the time, but i would SO watch if he hosts!

  22. I think NPH should host everything. Period.

  23. NPH & Joseph Gordon Levitt put other child actors to shame.

I hope NPH has opened the door for other (young) closet actors to come out. If the blinds are true, the Star Trek guy is close.

  24. LOVE LOVE LOVE NPH! I will definitely watch if he hosts. And that's no small feat for me seeing as I live in Australia and it's totally incovenient timing to watch it.

  25. Oh just have to comment on what bits of moxy said... I agree SO much! Actors are afraid they won't be taken seriously as straight romantic/action leads... but look at NPH! If you are a good enough actor, you can play anything believably. Straight men have believably played gay men for roles, so there should be no problem with the reverse. Of course, pretty boys who just get by on their looks with no discernable acting skills should be worried, because they probably wouldn't have much luck if they came out.

  26. Neil Patrick Harris makes hosting look effortless. He is so funny and his closing number on the Tony's was worth looking up on YouTube. The Emmy's will be fun this year!

  27. But this is the Emmy's. This is the big time.

Nope. You want big time? Nickelodeon -- THAT'S big time. When the Emmy's start dumping slime on their performers instead of us, that's when I'll start watching.

Ellen: my gay friends are pissed at me for abandoning her but when she used her show to bully those pet people when SHE screwed up, she lost me. I won't watch a thing she does now.
