Is Rehab A Hospital?

The Daily Mirror caught my attention this morning because they had the following headline: "Mischa Barton out of rehab and heading back to work." Not that I know everything but I read enough and hear enough that it kind of shocked me that I hadn't heard she was in rehab. I mean everyone assumes she had this three day coke bender and that is what finally pushed her into the hospital but no one said anything about rehab. I must read more. Well it turns out that it is only a headline and that The Mirror is referring to the hospital itself as rehab, like as in rehabilitation clinic for your mental issues as opposed to what everyone else in the world would construe rehab to mean when taken in the sense of a Mischa Barton article.

In fact, the entire article is just six lines long and takes up less space than the headline. It worked. They got me to click and to read.

  1. Typical British newspaper headline, not very factual but grabs your attention, gets more clicks on its website or sells more papers.

  2. Rehab actually is often located in a hospital. It's just called a psych hospital.

For instance, on Celebrity Rehab, it was at Pasadena Hospital. Now, most psych facilities (i.e. psych hospitals which also offer substance abuse treatment) are stand-alone (like Pasadena) but there are a few that are within a hospital that also offers medical services. None that I know of in LA, but there's one in our area.

  3. Oh, and Cedars Sinai has an inpatient psych program in which they treat "dual diagnoses." Lay term: chemical dependency and a psych diagnosis.

More concerning: most substance abuse recovery programs recommend at least 30 days as a patient, including intensive outpatient treatment. If Mischa is flying off to do whatever she's going to do, she's not going to be able to complete that kind of program.

    Relapse.

    Sad.

  5. Yeah, like I said...the Loonie Bin is NOT fun (being committed to the psych ward in a regular hospital).

You act right and get the hell out as fast as you can, due they'll start rubbing off on you.

    Seriously, I know.

  7. I feel really sad for her. I'm not a fan of any of the OC era shows. I think the bars in BH should be taken to task.

  8. Detox is not the same as rehab. If she was as outof control as reported, she needs additional time to address her challenges. She could be an accident waiting to happen.

Her mom is her manager, you would think she would put her mom hat on and not the money hat. It is disgusting how the "machine works"
