Hay Fever Is The New Excuse For Rage

Lady Sovereign has made my top 5 list of all time great excuses. The other day she went into a store to buy cigarettes. She is 23 and had proper i.d. to show that she was in fact, over the age of 18. For reasons that are still unclear the cashier decided to not sell her the cigarettes.

At that point the rapper lost it and tipped over the counter which had sandwiches and other food and then started jumping up and down on the food. If that wasn't enough, she then took a turn down the aisle with all the chips and pretzels and started smashing all of those and knocking them off the shelves.

Lucky for her the cashier didn't even call the cops. He just told her to get out and that she was banned from the place forever. Yeah, like there are not a million other 7-11's she could go to. I think he should have called the cops.

Anyway, this is the excuse she gave for the incident which she wrote on her Twitter account. "Hay fever really messed me up - I felt awful."

Seriously? Hay fever? That has to be the worst case of hay fever in the world. I didn't realize that having hay fever could cause such rage in a person. Umm, and it isn't for me to say, but if you are having such bad allergies should you be buying a pack of cigarettes in the first place? That would seem to me to probably make things worse. I think she was probably just pissed that even though she came up with her name before Lady Gaga, that everyone thinks Lady Sovereign copied her.

  1. If I went off every time allergies kick my butt, there'd be lots of smashed pretzels around here.

  4. What a dumb little girl. PMS is more believable. Still not excusable, though.

But yeah, when allergies give me that tickle in the back of my throat that no amount of water will make go away, lighting up a cigarette takes care of it for me.

  10. That excuse is up there with Ashley Simpson's acid reflux lipsynching and Lindsay Lohan's "that's not my coke cause their not my pants" alibi.

  13. Wow, that must be some nicotine jones she's got. What is she, a f*cking toddler?

Yes, the cashier should have called the cops. Or served her and got rid of her. But maybe he refused because she was rude?

Isn't that the weirdest thing? I used to have the worst allergies, and I would get colds all the time, but since I started smoking, I've not had any allergies OR colds. Same with my boyfriend, his allergies disappeared when he started smoking.

I wonder if that's not the reason for the push to eventually ban tobacco, because if a cigarette can effectively cure or dampen allergies and prevent colds, then how would the pharmaceutical companies sell all their expensive prescription drugs? I'm less scared of lung cancer/emphysema than I am of the side effects from all Big Pharma's drugs, and I'm also from THE tobacco state, and in this economy it seems stupid to attack ANY business that employs as many people here in the US as the tobacco industry, what with the recession and all. Kinda makes you think, huh?

  16. What if you're allergic to cigarette smoke? If you smoke, does your allergy go away?

  17. Who is this girl? I've seen her name on my xm radio when I've been flipping the stations around, but never stopped to actually listen to her. Who is she? Where is she from?

  18. Abigail: Lady Sovereign is British. If she's dressing according to stereotype then I'd hazard a guess she's from the greater Essex area, given her tracksuit ensemble and the Croydon facelift she's sporting. Though she isn't wearing any large hoop earrings, so that could skew that somewhat. Oh, and if she's as talented as Melanie C (the ex-Sporty Spice) is, I'll have to give her music a try.
