For all of the readers in Canada, Happy Canada Day. I hope that despite the holiday being on a Wednesday this year that you still manage to have some fun, enjoy the day, be with your friends and family, and of course be safe.
I think Wednesdays off are perfect, because you only have to work two days in a row, and anyone can make it through that. :) I usually take Wednesdays off when I need a break.
I love me some Canadians! Envious of your diplomacy with the rest of the world, your peaceful history, your liberal social views, your socialized medicine, and your same sex marriage acceptance and promotion.
My Canadian fella called early this morning that the L.A. morning news showed poutine and mentioned Happy Canada Day. We'll be flying both flags this Saturday.
poutine is easy to make at home. beef gravy, cubes room temperature cheese, any kind will really do, and fries. its best from your local greasy spoon up here but in a pinch the home version satisfies all munchies!
Thank you Gladys for such kind words, it does make me proud to call Canada my home!
now i'm off to paint my face, act a fool and eat hotdogs till i puke! enjoy!!!
It's a big deal in Ottawa. The city pretty much shuts down and there's stuff going on everywhere. The night ends on Parliament Hill with Blue Rodeo and fireworks.
I hate to argue, Jax, but any type of cheese won't due. Cheese curds are what makes it so good. Mozzarella is ok but curds make it exquisite.
there are several things but i think people who celebrate it, get together with friends or family and do the 4th of July stuff you guys do. drink, BBQ, eat,be lazy, eat ice cream, pait our faces, raise the flag, see a parade.
which im finally off to do...eh.
(yes, i agree the curds are better, but you try to find them in Florida lol)
ok, this has nothing to do with this post - but i just followed a link on dlisted and ended up on drunkenst and he just wrote the most disgusting piece about how he liked an outfit cause it would be so easy to rape the girl wearing it. I guess I havent read his site much, but i am really disgusted.
Yeah I don't like drunken stepfather either. I'm all for crude humour but it has to be funny, and in his case it's not because it feels like there's a lot of underlying anger and maybe a controlling mother figure. It's just kind of tragic.
And I am on the second floor, but the balcony underneath is winder so if I fall, I will fall on it. Not that I actually think I will fall over. It's just that we can sort of see the fireworks from out building but there's this TREE. That why you have to do some creative leaning if you want to catch the spectacle.
I called thoese little cheese chunks "squeaky cheese" cuz it squeaks when you bite down. That damn cheese is absolutely to die for. I guess because of preservatives we can't have that kind of cheese here, which sucks. When I visited, I was a happy tourist with a plastic bag of cheese curds and a Molson Light.
I'm a Canadian, living on the border with a river between my town and 2 towns in Minnesota. We have our fireworks and there are also fireworks from the people living on the river on the U.S. side. I think it is a wonderful gesture of friendship from our neighbours. And then 3 days later, we join them in celebration. Too bad we need passports to do it now. :(
Well thank you and Happy Canada Day fellow Canadians. I've been drinking Export all day and will enjoy the fireworks tonight. Hope I can remember them...
arrrgh Fuck you guys and your poutine talk! I'm craving one now and the old man is already half-plastered so I'm s.o.l...
Thanks Enty and everyone else for the wishes! Because of the city workers strike here in Toronto most of the celebrations have been cancelled. Hopefully someone will throw a crazy fireworks display tonight in my neighborhood!! If I wasn't preg I'd be enjoying some nice canadian coolers and a nice big canadian blunt :(
From a Minnesotan proud to border your fine country .. and often regretting we were not part of your fine country .. Happy Canada Day, Canadian et Canadien CDAN Readers!!

Inmasuch as homosexuals have a Gay Pride Day, us heterosexuals should have a Breeder's Pride Day! Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford should lead the Breader's Pride Parade! Breeders can fornicate in the streets and in cheap hotels to celebrate the holiday!

In case anyone's curious, here in Vancouver (B.C., not Washington), Canada Day is usually supplanted by Cannabis Day, wherein there's a gathering downtown at the art gallery and a smoke-in. Really a good time!
I missed all the wishes to us! Hooray everyone, and thank you. Hope your holiday off was as great as mine - laziness watching the NHL draft, pitch n' putt and a movie on a hot summer day. Bliss!
Let's celebrate with beer and poutine!
ReplyDeleteI'm not kidding, I really am going to have beer and poutine and try to watch the fireworks without falling off my balcony.
