Frank McCourt Has Died
Irish author Frank McCourt has died in New York City at age 78. He was best known for the million-selling "Angela's Ashes," a memoir about his childhood. The memoir was published in 1996 and won a Pulitzer Prize.
Frank McCourt died Sunday afternoon at a Manhattan hospice.
Frank McCourt had been gravely ill with meningitis and recently was treated for melanoma.
What a terrible tragedy. "Angela's Ashes" is easily one of my favorite books of all time -- one that I've read more times than I can count. And Mr. McCourt was a remarkable man who conquered seemingly impossible odds, and in the process, accomplished more than most will in a lifetime. May he rest in peace.

Oh no! RIP Frank McCourt. I saw the film Angela's Ashes when it first came out in the 90s but didn't read the book until last year. I loved the book and started on 'Tis recently. So sad, but what a legacy he's left!
