Why Would You Give Avril Lavigne An Award?
Avril Lavigne took to her MySpace page over the weekend. OK, wait. I need to already clarify. Her publicist or someone wrote on Avril's page, but the point is almost the same. Anyway, the reason someone wrote on her page was that Avril got smacked down in her hometown of Napanee, Canada. The reason? Well despite the fact I didn't think she had any fans, a great deal of them turned out over the weekend at the annual Napanee Multicultural Festival because Avril was supposed to show up to get an award. I know, I know, but I think if it is your hometown they just kind of pass them out like free Valtrex at a Paris Hilton party. You don't want to give them out, but you do anyway.
So when it became apparent that Avril was not going to show, one of the event organizers took to the stage and said, "The person I was dealing with who made certain promises to me about Avril appearing evidently did not keep their promise".
With that, the portion of the crowd who actually like good music broke into applause. Avril, says she wasn't at the event because she didn't even know there was such an event until reports began to surface tat she blew it off.
"Avril was not committed to attend the Napanee Ontario Multicultural Festival. Her management had no knowledge of this event. She appreciates the honour, however to say that she 'flaked and didn't show up' is completely untrue, as she had no knowledge of this event whatsoever. Avril is currently in the U.S. working on her 4th album."
Don't you just love how they manage to get that plug into the statement. That is true spin. She didn't know about the event, but for those of you who are fans, you can look forward to her new album which will sound exactly like the other three. Then she and Nickelback will go on tour and end Canadian music as we know it.
Q: "Why Would You Give Avril Lavigne An Award?"
ReplyDeleteA: Award is named "Biggest Twat in the Known Universe".
LOL- they clapped and cheered when announced she wasn't attending?
ReplyDeleteouch that's gotta hurt Avie!
love it!
Enty- the worst thing to happen to Canadian music was this damn CanCon. at 33.3% of the radio play...we hear a lot of baaaaadddd music. i'm sorry world, it isn't our fault.
I'm tired of Canadian music being only Bryan Adams, Nickelback, Avril Lavigne and other like them. There are many great Canadian bands who just haven't hit the market outside of our borders.
ReplyDeleteListen to Marianas Trench instead. They are much better. :)
Canadian Music Scene at its finest: Sled Island festival in Calgary this week!
ReplyDeletewww.sledisland.com
Not ONLY Canadian bands, but many of them will be there and sounding NOTHING like Nickelback.
The Canadian music that people know about is so embarassing. I mean Simple Plan? Sum 41? And the worst: Nickleback? No wonder people in the world think we are simple in the brains.
ReplyDeleteMay I just add that on the news last night a reporter was interviewing some girls at the MMVA's and they asked who was the best performer of the night, and the girls screamed Nickelback.
ReplyDeleteSeriously?
Were they paid to say that, or were they just having a laugh? I won't even entertain the idea that they were serious.
that's some rico suave spin! i can't hate.
ReplyDeleteoh, dear neighbors to the north, don't feel bad. at least you don't have paris.
Pookie:
ReplyDeleteTouché
Pookie: No we don't have Paris, but we have Pamela Anderson---Well, sort of b/c you guys have her now.
ReplyDeleteOur music is not all bad you guys. We have Sam Roberts, Dallas Green (City and Colour)and lots of other amazing talent. Can-Con is a terrible representation od Canadian music. And Avril is a douche and the sooner we start ignoring her the sooner she'll fade away. I mean, how old do you have to get to stop writing music for fourteen year olds?
Ooh, I just thought of another possible award idea: "Award for Lasting Surprisingly Long Without Getting Punched in the Face a/la Perez Hilton."
ReplyDeleteA girl I used to work with went to high school with Avril. Let's just say that the personality she has now is no different than the one she had then. That so many Napanee citizens booed comes as no surprise.
ReplyDeleteI can't hate CanCon. If we didn't have that, the radio would be over run by American (and British) music. CanCon gives bands chances. I don't blame CanCon for Nickelback, I blame people with bad taste. But the US gave us Creed, a host of bad music and Ed Hardy clothing. So we're equal. Hmmm, except the US gave the world Bruce Springsteen. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe Canadian music scene eats its own. Larry Gowan. Super talented singer who should have been a mega-watt star, now fronts for Styx. Check out Criminal Mind and Moonlight Desires with Jon Anderson.
ReplyDeleteI will do a list of anti-Avril/anti-Nickleback Canadian music that I like (and it will probably be short and have bands from late 70s/early 80s):
Max Webster/old Rush (2112, Hemispheres)/Teenage Head/Martha and The Muffins/April Wine/Pukka Orchestra (check out Might As Well Be On Mars - beautiful song)/Jean Leloup/Alfa Rococo/Les Cowboys Fringants ... I'm sure there are a few others I'm forgetting. Feel free to add.
I don't doubt Avril blew them off. She is a big star, after all.
They should make a TV show on her life, Trailer Park Girl! eh!
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, she does bear a family resemblance to Tonya Harding.
ReplyDeleteshe came to this festival i was at, and a bunch of people came to see her kind of ironically and she was the worst performer i have EVER EVER seen. people started booing her... it was bad.
ReplyDeletesuch an attractive young lady.
ReplyDeletei know this was posted days ago but i had to give you a great canadian singer to check out. www.danielwesley.com or check him out on facebook, listen to his tunes, they are awesome :) way better than this crap!!!
