Today's Blind Items - Kindness

This is a great story. It is all the more so because the person involved didn't want any credit for what he did. A former MVP winning NFL player recently paid to have 70 underprivileged children and their families flown to Walt Disney World for a vacation. He picked up the entire cost for everything with no sponsor help and no publicity for himself.

  1. That is so awesome. I can't even begin to guess since I don't pay attention to football.

  2. Joe Montana?

Safe to say it isn't OJ.

  3. Emmett Smith?

    Did he ever win MVP?

  4. So cool!

This is the way we all want to *think* we'd behave if we had this kinda money, right? ;-)

  6. Is it a former MVP winner but current player or a former player.
If it's a current player I say Kurt Warner. He does a lot that he gets publicity for and a lot more that he doesn't.

  7. I agree with Kurt Warner.

  8. Another vote for Kurt Warner!

  9. I vote for Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning or Bart Starr.

  10. this could be a lot of people. there are some good guys in the NFL.

i'm going to say jerry rice.

  11. Enty, couldn't you have helped out by saying, West Coast or East Coast? Or maybe mentioning if the team's mascot was an ungulate, feline or something else? Maybe? I dunno. I'm not into football.

  12. Jerry Rice is a good guess, too. I guessed Bart Starr because he founded the Rawhide Boys Ranch. It is a residential care center o help troubled teenage boys.

  13. @Valerie: "safe to say it isn't OJ"

    hahahaha, that is priceless.

  14. Whoever it is, God bless 'em! Nice to know things like this still happen.

  15. Since he's a former St. Louis player, I want this to be Kurt Warner :) But whoever this is, good for them!

  16. I know Kurt Warner and his wife do a lot of things like this, but I'm not sure if he'd do it under the radar. Whoever it is, is a sweetheart.

  17. To me this says out of NFL but not yet in Hall of Fame.

I take my hat off to whomever it is. Thank you!

  18. What about Derrick Brooks? He was the MVP at the Pro Bowl one year, so that could count for the MVP bit. He's also known for taking underprivileged kids on trips, one year he even took a bunch of kids to South Africa.

The only thing that makes me question whether it would be him is that he's always been big about pushing education, taking kids to visit colleges and things like that, and Disney doesn't quite fit the whole goal of getting kids to aspire for more in life.

  19. Hines Ward - he is a real stand up guy.

  20. Hope this one is revealed this weekend!

  21. Kurt Warner...

Last paragraph of the article mentions that they have projects for trips to Disney World for children.

  22. Actually, I have 2 people in mind. Kurt Warner, and quite possibly Michael Irvin. People pick on Irvin, but coming from a family of 15 kids, he is extremely generous to children. I've seen it first hand.

  23. Who is the person that said Emmett Smith? Let me tell you about Smith. That jerk wanted an APPEARANCE FEE to pick up his Texas Football Hall of Fame Trophy. That ASSHOLE! Someone is giving you a Football Hall of Fame Trophy and you want an APPEARANCE FEE?! Needless to say, they told him NOPE~!

    Troy Aikman.

  25. Kurt Warner or Steve Young

  26. Jamie's Girl, that's disappointing to hear about Emmett. He seemed like such a sweetie on DWTS.

  27. I take the "Former MVP" as someone that is retired, so all of the guess for active players might be wrong. If he just means any MVP before the last one, then I submit Tom Brady. He does alot of charitable work.

  28. Holmes son has sickle cell and he supports that charity

  29. Yes, Emmmit Smith is a douchebag. I say Warner is a great guess. Payton Manning isn't a bad one either. Nicer, and funnier in person than many might think.

  30. That ROCKS!!! Thanks for sharing the deed with us, Enty.

  31. I have no clue, except 70 seems to be an interesting number of kids to choose. Anybody know of a player who has a link to the number 70? (Maybe not just his number, but number of...catches? touchdowns? I don't know... just puttin' it out there) Whoever it is, God bless him!

  32. I don't know any names of sports people but whoever this is - NICE!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I say Steve Young, if only for the Mormon angle.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Totally Kurt Warner. Gives a ton to charity, was MVP, is an all-around good guy.

  35. i really hope this one gets revealed on the 4th- what an amazing person! so generous & kind!

  36. @nunaurbiz- great idea! I will ask the man about it later...he will know.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I say Troy Aikman =)

  38. As an avid STEELER fan... I'm going with Hines FTW!! Woo hoo... Love me some Steeler football.. can't wait til Aug 13 for preseason!!!

  39. Califblondy, Emmett was voted the #1 diva on that season of DWTS by the crew. Incredibly demanding. I guess he just knows how to put on a good public face.

  40. I would assume it is someone on the East Coast since they went to Walt Disney WORLD - someone on the West Coast would be more likely to go to Walt Disney LAND. Although, that probably just means they currently live on the east coast, not that they necessarily played on a team there (if they are retired).

  41. Mooshki I had no idea about Emmett. That really bumms me out. I always thought he was a good guy. :(

  42. I'm from Emmett and Derrick's hometown. (My daughter went tothe same high school, years later.) Emmett doesn't give a kid an autograph without payment; Derrick has a WONDERFUL charitable reputation in town. So does Roy Jones Jr., but he's another sport.

  43. I'm going with Kurt Warner he's the first one who came to mind.

  44. I TRULY hope this one gets revealed... these are soooo cool of the more "famouser" folk.. LOL
