Diversity Beats Susan Boyle

By now you probably have heard that Susan Boyle got beat in the finals of Britain's Got Talent and checked herself into a hospital. I really am afraid that maybe a singing career might not be the career for her. I realize there is a lot of money in her future, but I'm wondering if it is worth driving yourself mad to get it. Here is the winning performance from the dance group Diversity.

I don't know maybe it's just me but I think Susan Boyle should have placed 1st place not this group.

  2. It's gotta be really hard to go from complete obscurity to fame in such a short time, considering how sheltered her life was before. She looked like she was about to collapse when they were announcing the winners.

I do very much hope Susan has a good support system to keep her spirits up.

  3. It's my understanding that due to a oxygen deficiency at birth Susan Boyle has some slight mental issues. I don't think the best of us could have handled all the sudden media attention she had to deal with. I hope she is better soon.

  4. The best person won. And it does seem Boyle is slightly retarded next to being very very annoying

  5. This makes me sad. I was hoping that she could've won and become famous. Unfortunately it seems like she couldn't handle it.

  6. she didn't exactly 'check herself in' to the hospital. to me, that says she walked in and said 'i need to be here.' i understood calls were made, the police or EMT's came and she was taken in. yes, she went voluntarily, but it just doesn't sound like it was her idea.

i'm sorry this was so hard on her, but if i never see her again, i'll be happy. and if i never hear 'i dreamed a dream' again, i'll be ecstatic.

  7. I guess I'm one of the saps who was completely charmed by Susan. I really feel for her, and hope she's getting very good counseling now.

Word is, she does already have contracts lined up. I think she'll be okay once things die down a bit.

  8. god love her, she's a talented lady. loved her graciousness when she lost. hope she gets some rest and lands studio session work for the rest of her life. she's got the chops. occasional theatre here and there would be lovely too. go sb.

  9. Never underestimate the 12 year old girl vote. Look at the most recent results for Dancing with the Stars and American Idol.

That said, the US has a ton of high school cheerleading/dance teams who could have performed this number a hundred times better.

  10. I think the Queen would rather hear Susan sing than Diversity dance. Didn't Obama gift her with an iPod pre-filled with various musicals?

  11. I watched this dance performance without the music and it looks exacly like a college cheerleading competition routine -- no real dancing, but lots of synchronized work and some gymnastics moves.

Actually, cheer squads perform more than this group did.

As for Boyle, I've heard her hometown knows her to be "simple" but to me the only difference between her crazy and Mariah Carey's is that Boyle has neither a handler nor a publicist.

  12. Paisley, we are obviously seeing this for what it is -- a half-rate cheer competition "dance" routine.

  13. In 100% agreement with Pookie. Studio work would be a great gig for her, out of the public spotlight.

Also, ditto Paisley--I read the probability was many of her fan base didn't bother voting since she was the heavily odds-on favorite to win.

  14. I saw Boyle's final performance too, and - while good - it lacked the charm and surprise of the original performance.

What immediately jumped out on this performance (Diversity) is that there wasn't ONE vanity shot of any of the judges (Boyle performance was full of them). Let's face it, the show, the judges and the media all latched onto this woman and they want(ed) to milk it for all it's worth, despite the consequences to her mental health. It's all about publicity at this point. Typical story: you build a star up, you tear it down, and then the inevitable comeback. Of course, this happened to Susan Boyle in the course of 6 weeks. Who can blame her for going a bit mad?

  15. I could see Susan in London or Broadway musicals, or studio work. However, how will these "dancers" parlay their win? I can't see anything but the end of the road for their "talent". I wouldn't pay to go see them do a mediocre cheerleading performance.

  16. if Susan can't the handle a singing competition, then how the hell do you guys think she's going to be this big broadway singing star? musicals are no joke and they perform everyday! even touring would lay her out.

  17. Check out all three of the routines that Diversity did--all of them were fantastically done and they absolutely deserved it. However, the BEST of the lot, imo, was the 11 year old singer, Shaheen...such a voice!! Blew Subo right out of the water.

    Shaheen Jafargholi--look him up.

I truly believe these talent competitions are rigged....and Susan didn't win because BGT realized she wouldn't be able to handle the stress and responsibility of winning the competition.

  19. I hope someone tells Susan that in the future, all anyone will remember about this year's show is HER. How many places can Diversity perform? I can see how they won. People like to build other people up and tear them down. The most recent British tabs wrote horrible things about Susan. I think she could do well on a smaller Michael Buble/Josh Groban circuit. Didn't Simon already sign her to his label? Chin up, Susan! You did well under all the pressure!! I'm sure you'll get to sing before the Queen someday!! Camilla might even have you over for tea, you never know!!!

  20. I really believe that somehow, Susan Boyle will quietly sell a sh*tload of records in the UK and cash in. I think I will just follow her story and see how she does, and keep hoping the best for her.

  21. I felt like I was watching a Janet Jackson video, circa the Control era. Either that or a cheer/dance routine on ESPN. Impressive, but I think Susan had the real talent.

  22. I take a different spin on this.

Yes, Diversity is good, and the choreography was good, but after this, where will they go? As it's been said before, I'm sure the Queen would rather listen to Susan than watch Diversity.

That said, Diversity can have the win, I don't think they'll wind up anywhere special. As for Susan? I say "So What?" if she didn't win the competition. She'll be picked up by some recording company, will probably wind up on Broadway or the like, and will end up making a HELL of a lot more than the $100 000 win. AND we'll have the pleasure of hearing her for years to come, if she can muster up enough courage to keep on keeping on. She's got true talent, and the world recognized it.
I'm not sure we've heard the last of her. Which is a good thing.

  23. After viewing the final performances of the 2 finalists,
I can only say that Susan stands far above the other. Her voice, her ability to perform under the absurd pressure she was put under and most of all her CHARM, GRACIOUSNESS and PURE SPORTSMANSHIP is for all to admire.

What angers me is the ignorance of some comments above - I single out michelle and nancer. How dare you??? What gives you the right to be so cruel?? You should be ashamed of yourselves. I would be immensely proud to be able to watch her perform.

Susan, you are welcome with open arms to America. We would love to have you in the U.S.A.

    All my best.
