This Is What Happened To Emily Longstreth

Last month I wrote a post entitled "Whatever Happened To Emily Longstreth. Well, you may have missed the fact that last week, someone responded in the comments who actually sounds like they know. Take it for what it is worth but it sounds fairly believable to me. Here is what she had to say. I edited certain portions of it, but you can always go to the post and read it verbatim. Oh, and I didn't correct the spelling.

I am the ex sister in law to Emily Lene Longstreth. I have a daughter with her only brother Eric Longstreth who lives in Las Vegas, with their mother. Emily lives in NYC in an apartment with some room mates. She has lived in homeless shelters for over 10 yrs. Her mother's name is Lene Wangmo ( she had her named changed when she converted to buddhism) Her born name is Helen Lenee Corn. She has two children Eric and Emily, Emily's father is John Longstreth He lives in Lake Forest, Ca. I just saw Her in October when Eric flew Her out for the month. She has changed a lot from Her twenties. Anyone who is that interested in Her, I know a lot about Her life and why she isn't able to act anymore. She was diagnosed w/ Bipolar and Paranoid Schephrenia at age 24 or 25. It's a tragedy. Ive only met her a few times because we live in Vegas. I can't stand my ex Eric.

  5. Wow! That makes me so sad for her...

  6. Glad to know that she is alive and still has family that cares about her. Best wishes.

  7. schizophrenia shows up usually between 18-25 years old. I know people are anti psychotropic drugs, but they help. I know from dealing with a brother. He no longer thinks the Mossad or CIA is after him. not kidding.

  8. I have a very close relative who is schizophrenic and it is a heartbreaking disease. There is no cure and though treatments are better than they used to be, they are still inadequate. The worst part is that the people who have this disease are often brilliant and gifted, and they are lost to the world. Sad for her, sad for her family, sad for us. My thoughts are with her and her family.

  9. Gladys, you are correct these individuals are usually gifted. My wonderful brother was gifted with the knack for languages and not latin based either...Russian and Japanese. He had a full ride to Harvard and things went wrong after he got there. I love him. Zyprexa has greatly reduced his fog of hallucinations. But I wonder how long before that drug no longer works.

  11. Very sad. Isn't this the same diagnosis for Lisa Nicole Carson (Ally McBeal, ER)?

  12. I know mental institutions were usually horrible, but isn't there some kind of alternative to making the mentally ill live on the street? Oh yeah, I forgot, that would mean raising taxes. THE HORROR!!!

  13. I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that her roommate situation is working out, and that she has a good psychiatrist.

The latter is key--so many psychiatrists are worthless, but if she can find a good one, I hope she'll get on an effective regimen of medication.

  14. Even if you have insurance, mental health coverage is shit. Some states pick up the slack and handle the situation well but most don't. Most homeless people are mentally ill people who can't receive proper care. Another problem with bipolar and schizophrenia is that those folks suck at taking their meds regularly over time. (especially schizophrenics) I would assume that when you are homeless, you are worrying about other things than taking your meds on time even if you had some. I'm sure they couldn't afford them at all. Those suckers costs a lot. Healthcare in this country sucks. Our government should be ashamed.

  15. I think of situations like these whenever people comment about Britney Spears looking a little drugged or slow or out of it, which I suspect is the result of medication. Those who think Britney should be able to live on her own and without her father's assistance might ask themselves whether Ms. Longstreth's life in homeless shelters thousands of miles away from her family would be a better life for Britney. Mental illness is devastating and an enormous challenge for those who suffer from it, as well as their families.

  17. I wish the best of luck to her. Mental illnesses are terrible. Both the suffering and the treating of the illnesses seem impossible to cope with.

And yes, coverage for mental illnesses is inadequate in the US. I have a friend who went off her pills, because it was costing nearly $500 a month. She said they weren't even working. Then she tried to apply to health assurance after college just for doctor's visits. She got rejected, because she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Luckily she's coping.

Health care in the US blows.

  18. Thank you for updating us!

It's a shame that more can't be done for the people who suffer from such personality crushing diseases. Maybe someday research will find cures and bring them home to themselves and their loved ones.

  19. worst part is that thisb rum, is a very treatable illness, but the patient convinces them self they don't need their meds anymore and there you go. instead of creating things like low carb rum, we need to come up with a time release medication for illnesses like this one.

    ReplyDelete
  20. it's very true. so many of the homeless (until recently) suffered from schizo-affective disorders. the side effects from the meds can be as debilitating as the disease itself.
the costs are exhorbanant (sp?). finding the right mix takes a long time.
i don't know what the current DSM says, but about 11-12 years ago, s-a could not be diagnosed until age 18, and they were only just realizing that children could be bi-polar. and rapid and ultra rapic cycling was a new discovery. this makes treatment even harder, because a parent or even the patient knows something is dreadfully wrong, but gets shuffled out the door.
finding a good psychiatrist that works for you can take years. and (from personal experience) you HAD to deal with a very expensive psych to get the meds you needed. now days, GPs will handle psychotropics. all of this eats up money very quickly.
then, as Blah said, compliancy is a HUGE issue, especially when bi-polar is involved.
because(1) they crave the manic high, and (2) as soon as they feel better, they stop taking meds. S-A is incredibly frightening,
because the patient can't hold down a job, can't have personal relationships, and so often the family simply can't live with the disease. and i can't even imagine what it's like to live inside that head.
this poor, poor girl. i'm glad someone had the answer to her whereabouts, but i'm sitting here in tears because of the things i just said and what i've seen. this is one of the worst things i could ever hear about somebody, and i don't even know her.

sorry about the textbook, guys. this just hits too close to home.

  22. They say actress Mia Camble has similar problems. unfortunetly for her people have taken advantage of her disorder and it resulted in some very strange nude photos and video.

They also report that her mother (a famous author) wrote one of her last books (before her death from cancer) about her struggle with her daughter's mental illness

  23. For all of those who shared - thank you. This hits so close to home for many people, and yet it is not always talked about openly I think.

  24. If it matters, I think Reagan signed legislation to close insitutions that would have normally treated these people, all stemming from a lawsuit advocating that the mentally ill should have the right to refuse medication if they want to.

  27. Sarah Holcomb, who had roles in both Caddyshack and Animal House (her entire acting career consisted of only 4 roles, plus a TV special), is said to have dropped out of sight because of a schizophrenic breakdown. Her insanity was rumored to be exacerbated by alcohol and cocaine addiction (this is around the time that Caddyshack wrapped, circa 1980.) Scary stuff.

  28. The blog owner posted what he thought was "believable" information about my daughter, posted by Amy Madden. It was garbage posted by a nut. I am Emily Longstreth’s mother. I personally know Amy Madden. Amy Madden worked briefly as a secretary for one of my son’s businesses. Amy was fired for theft. Amy was never married to my son as she claims. Amy Madden is known to be a thief, a pathological liar, pathologically jealous, a stalker who has been imprisoned twice for violence in Florida where she was raised and still lives, though she comes to Las Vegas on occasion, finding excuses to see/annoy my son. One of her imprisonments was for 21 days for doing harm with a knife to her ex-boyfriend in Florida before she was 20 years old.

Amy Madden has been on bi-polar meds since she was 14, mentions being on Zoloft and Zanax now, and yet brags about "doing 20 beers." She is very over-weight. She is a deeply disturbed individual who gets her jollies being a sex addict—posting naked pictures of herself all over. Amy is a back-stabber who brags about it, and is a malicious gossip with broad sadistic tendencies. She tells people that had a severe case of VD from her early teens promiscuity that she said made her sterile. (She likes talking ugly strange stuff quite inappropriately in a manner that betrays her lack of psychological boundary). She’s been an out of control personality since age twelve according to her mother, grandmother, and brother who live in Orlando, Florida.

Amy Madden has been in my home on several occasions because she briefly worked for my son until her craziness began to overtly reveal itself. When you first meet her, she seems to be a sweet young lady, an opinion that changes 180 degrees within a couple of weeks of knowing her.

She became obsessed with my son and has stalked him, and he had to bring in the authorities to get her to stop She has stolen my personal journals, photographs, digital camera, some jewelry and clothes. She has returned some of it, with apologies, which I view as just another way to come around here. She’s truly a dark-spirited person with a compulsion to wreck havoc.

That said, people should know the motive behind what Amy Madden posted above about my daughter, Emily Longstreth--a vile post that the owner of this blog erroneously thought was "believable." Amy had heard stories about and seen pictures of wonderful talented beautiful Emily who lives privately in Manhattan, Hawaii, and Las Vegas. When Amy “stopped by” last summer, we all thought it would be to simply pick up a bag she’d left behind and leave. My son and I made jokes about tying everything down so Amy couldn’t steal anything while she was here. Amy found out Emily was coming for an extended visit with the family last summer (four months) and evidently timed her stopping by to meet Emily.

Amy Madden is in her early 20’s. Emily is 42 and still quite beautiful and stunning. Emily is slender, wears her hair platinum, stylishly short. She was wearing a champagne silk pullover and shorts, barefoot, because it was 120 degrees in Vegas in July. Amy Madden is about 5' 1" weighs 170, and had herself poured into tight jeans like a fat sausage with her gut hanging over. She was quite taken aback by meeting my very stunning daughter.

  29. (continuing: re to Amy Madden malicious post about Emily Longstreth--a post that the blog owner thinks is "believable," but in actuality is garbage puked by a pig):

When Amy Madden came into my home I saw the look on her face when she first saw Emily. She was startled by how gracious, beautiful, and regal Emily is. Amy is short and fat, sort of “wild-eyed piggy” looking. One of the first things Amy said to Emily was “why don’t you put some clothes on?” because Emily’s beautiful slender long legs triggered her pathological jealousies. Emily told her this is her home, she’ll dress as she chooses. Emily later said she knew immediately this Amy character was a nasty sort, and was having none of it in her own home.

Amy went on in her obsessive manner, picking up and holding up Emily’s khaki mini-skirt off a pile of laundry that had been recently done, and she asked Emily, “What size is this? Size 5?” Anyway, Amy Madden did what she always does-- create very ugly energy in a room that’s rooted in her pathological jealousy.

Amy Madden was asked to leave, and therefore this nasty post above full of lies to exercise her sadistic penchant for enjoying her backstabbing attempts at character assassination because Emily is just too intelligent, too gorgeous, too talented, too much of a reminder of what a nasty little creep Amy Madden is. She knows we are a very private family. Therefore this post of hers was done in the spirit of maliciousness—true to the Amy Madden spirit of malevolence.

Emily is a very talented person. She has been expressing her creativity as a fine artist for years. She spent time with me when I lived in Hawaii for ten years, doing art and writing music. She brought her boyfriend, Stephen, who was a photographer. We bicycled all over the Big Island and enjoyed the immense beauty of nature there, swimming with the green turtles of Black Sands Beach, attending Buddhist retreats above South Point, and experiencing many magnificent wonders of nature there. We had some very creative and fun times. She did a suite of vibrantly colorful and bold paintings full of great delightful energy. She has just written a screenplay that she hopes to direct. She is funny, sweet, loving, and intelligent, and very graciously beautiful. She is a truly wonderful person.

Amy Madden has none of those qualities, and she certainly isn’t qualified to open her mouth and even mention my daughter’s name. She simply flipped out when she met Emily, whose lovely presence overwhelmed her with jealousy. If Amy Madden had more depth of character she would have been more interested in engaging Emily's high intellect and artistic perspectives. Instead, she could merely wallow in the superficial levels of envy of physical attractiveness, where Amy felt like a short fat white trash creep standing in the room with a vibrantly lovely fully-developed human being.

It appalls me that when a person wishes to step out of the public’s view to pursue a private life, the gossips crawl out and post outrageous slanderous bullshit. Leave Emily alone and don’t allow the Amy Madden’s of the world find audience for their vile hateful pathologies.

BTW, Mr. Lawyer whose blog this is, how dare you post that “you heard” my daughter was a prostitute. How about this thing I “heard” about you being a buttplug of Satan. Oh, my mistake, I heard wrong. Maybe it's THIS gossip I heard that's the real truth: I heard that you’re "just another one of those slimy Hollywood gossip types who don’t have a life."

  34. Hello, This is VERY SAD information to learn about Ms. Longstreth! I suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and can sort of relate to her illness! I am a film actor who has started a Facebook tribute site for one of Emily's movies, AMERICAN DRIVE-IN (1985). Membership in the movie fan club includes several of her co-stars who I'm sure would love to be re-united with her! Ms. Longstreth, or anyone who can notify her of my interest and concern, kindly e-mail me: davelounder@yahoo.com. Thank you, and God Bless!!!

  35. I d like to comment something
sometimes the easy way to fix this is if some relative passes by this post proves something
    let me tell you why

theres a lot of ppl who are really geniualy concern about emily
i mean, i am, and i cannot FIND A GODDAMN thing about her, i mean, if she is okay , like a post above said, just prove it, with a simple pic, i hope thats right, i mean i wish her nothing but the best, but there so many rummors in every webs site or post or videocomments with the same ending.
for example , i talked with someone who lives in new york and told me his house arrangements fell throught and had to crash at a chelsea nhood shelter, and one girl claimed to be emily, later this source of mine, got up on his feet and told me that watched private resort cuz he loves j depp and thougth he knew that girl, "patti", and all of a sudden he thought of that mid 30`s girl back in 2003, claiming to be her , she dressed in black all the time and smokes a lot, i dont really trust him, but i started searching and the only thing i read is thats shes been livign in shelters for the past ten years...
if this is wrong info, please dont hesitate and some prove it!...
i know this is crazy, but ppl will still think that idea if no one denies it with valid proof,
just a simple pic if this is a fake rumor.
    thank you,
and good luck where ever you are emily..

  36. I was a young stuntman on AMERICAN DRIVE IN and WIRED TO KILL - I knew Emily and her mother... Believe me, her mother would not leave her on her own with an illness like this.

The movie business is not that great, it's understandable that she may want to keep a low profile.

    Hi Emily and Lene!

  37. Where is Emily? She's NOT or wasn't homeless. Her brother owns succsessfull businesses and has with Emily a Charity Foundation named on the Longstreth family name that among other things gives charity to homeless shelters. She is on the board of directors, not homeless.
I cannot vouch for the truth of this but googling search a few places said that she became religious and is affiliated with "The Friends" (Quakers).
If she was an artist or just dropped out of films she wouldn't have made sure that Wikipedia and many other sites took off her private info.
And since when do homeless women have money to pay lawyers for that?
If its true that she desired to live a religious life then it makes sense! G-D Bless Emily

  38. I stayed at Olivieri shelter with Emily up until May 2011. It was open to both men and women at the time. I last saw her at Main Chance shelter. This was during hurricane Sandy blackout. She is alive, she is a chain smoker, and she is not mentally fit. But on the upside, she seems relatively happy. I don't think she needs anyone's pity. And for her mother that denies her daughter is struggling. Where are U?
