Katherine Heigl Wants An Emmy

Last year if you will recall, Katherine Heigl decided she wasn't going to nominate herself for an Emmy because as she put it, the writers sucked and so she wasn't very proud of anything she had done on the show. OK, so it wasn't those exact words, but it was still something like that. Now that she may have been killed off, and realizes the chances of any future awards in her future are extremely limited, she said, what the hell and nominated herself for an Emmy this year. One can only hope she doesn't make the finals, and therefore give her something to bitch at for the upcoming year. That would be sweet wouldn't it?

Oh, and to improve the odds she will win, she has placed herself in the Best Supporting Actress award instead of lead actress. It is the same category for which she won in 2007, but one could argue she was more of a lead actress and she certainly hasn't supported anyone other than herself.

  1. Don't hate, but I thought her acting was really good this season. She made sex with a dead guy look like a good thing.

  2. hopefully now that she is off the show she will fade away quickly.

  3. going into supporting category pits her against two superior actresses on her own show (Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson) plus a host of others who should easily beat her out (Allison Pill, Hope Davis and Dianne Weist from In Treatment and Christina Hendricks from Mad Men to name a few).

  4. I am one of the few who like her. She was absolutely right when she said that she didn't feel she should receive an Emmy last year, because, as an avid-Grey's viewer will attest, her storyline was completely lackluster. If she'd have been nominated, it would have been really odd. They also did the weird phasing out thing with T.R Knight's character, so if he leaves the show of his own accord it's perfectly understandable.

I think Heigl is just one of those women who says what she thinks without considering the politics involved. My thing is, and has been for ages, that while she's done well because of the show, the show has also done well because of her, as well as the other main characters on the show. Now they're messing with the formula by incorporating weak new characters (paid less perhaps?) and fiddling with the fates of the old. Makes me nuts.

She went to work and did what she was told to do and for some reason she gets criticized for vocalizing the opinions of most people who watch the show: Izzy's storyline totally sucked last year. It'd be embarrassing for her to nominated for it. This past year was also really weird, but at least the fake orgasms might warrant a nod or two!

  5. Greys is not the only employer she has trashed...she has a habit of sounding ungrateful. There is a way to convey her feeling that the show was going in the wrong direction without sounding like an entitled brat

  6. I also have to add that when you reach a certain point in your career you can mouth off and get away with it...there are a lot of opinionated actors that I respect. Heigl is not at that point.

  7. She has a fairly long resume, though, and I don't think that being new or old determines whether or not you're allowed to express an opinion. People don't have to agree with her, it just is what it is.

Chandra Wilson even defended her, actually, saying the whole thing was blown out of proportion, which it was. Personally, I think Wilson is the more deserving of the Emmy. I never understood why people got so worked up over Heigl's decision not to submit her name. Maybe she could have softened her words, but it wouldn't have changed the perceptions of the audience. Grey's fell off the track. I think the egos that need watching are at a higher level than the actors.

  8. I love Sandra and Chandra. I only watch the show for them and Kevin McKidd.

  9. She totally deserves the nomination this season because her character didn't wear any makeup in the last three episodes. Now that's serious acting!

In related news, I no longer have to stomp around the apartment for an hour every Thursday night yelling DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE ALREADY! Thank you, Katherine Heigl, my neighbours love you.

  10. Yeah it is what it is alright. I think people were less worked up over her decision not to submit her name and more over the speech she gave. Especially on the heels of her comments about “knocked up” which was a breakthrough role for her.
    LOL David D!

  11. she's an average actress, at best. what the hell has she ever done that makes anyone think she's really good?
she seems to have a big mouth and i don't really think that's an asset to the career she desperately seems to want.

  12. Only thing I can focus on is they killed her off. Is it for sure? Fingers crossed. Let's hope the rest of her career withers away, too.

  13. she is not the best actress, nor the worst - but what I dont get is why people dislike her that much? I don´t think withdrawing her name was a big deal, either.

  14. I cannot stand her. She is such a showboater, and this is just another example of her tactics for attention. She does nothing except bite the hand that has fed her quite well for five years, and then wants to ride on its coattails come awards season. There are far more superior actresses who qualify for this category, including her co-stars Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson.

  15. One can nominate oneself for an Emmy? Really?

  16. No, Enty, she did NOT nominate herself for anything.
I could not care less about her. I don't watch the show.
This time of year, producers submit episodes for consideration for Emmy nominations in various categories. Nominations are announced later in the year. KH would have been asked if she wanted the finale submitted but it's Chandra who would have submitted it.

  17. Well, I'll be okay as long as she doesn't win any more awards and her movies start to tank at the box office.

  18. This woman's vanity is truly sick. What a fame whore.
