Huffington Post Turns Into Drunken Stepfather

As I have said here before and will say often, I love Jesus Martinez and Drunken Stepfather. He is a funny guy and he is good at what he does, which is show lots of partially clad or naked women. There are lots of other sites that also have the same kind of format like Egotastic and Hollywood Tuna and they do very well for themselves. Apparently they must be doing really well, because The Huffington Post is starting to infringe on their territory. I guess I expected more from Huffington. I read the site frequently because I like how they have every piece of news other than sports right in front of you and they have lots of celebrities who blog and a decent entertainment section, so it is a regular stop.

I have always thought of it as journalistic and trying to stay at a certain level of respect. That was kind of shattered today when they devoted ten pictures and a headline stating "Padma Lakshmi's Sheer Dress And Natalie Portman's Near Slip (PHOTOS)" I mean I posted naked pictures of Rihanna on Friday so I'm not throwing stones at anyone. I just guess I expected more from them and didn't realize they needed the hits so bad that they were willing to provide zoomed in photos of Natalie's half exposed nipple or more closeups of Padma's breast through her dress.

Like I said, I have done the same kind of thing, but I'm just a guy who writes a blog and not a site that wants to be the substitute for the print media in the next few years. I don't know. What do you think? Am I making a big deal out of nothing or have they crossed the line in trying to attract new readers?

  1. I thought they crossed the line a few weeks ago when their celeb section on the main page had a huge size increase, and the celeb bloggers were made much more prominent in the news section. It used to be like the Entertainment section of a newspaper - now it's fighting the real news for dominance. It's disappointing.

  2. Big deal out of nothing, I think. I doubt any of that would have been run had it not been the White House Correspondants' Dinner.

  3. Oh, and I forgot to say, I love Drunken Stepfather too. :)

  4. Hmmm, let's see here...real news versus Padma's booby?

    Boobs win every time.

  6. I wonder if a cost benefit analysis was done on the gain of ogler's -vs- loss of prudish hits or some such.

I prefer to keep my SFW separate from NSFW by a really good buffer zone (even if it just a bold headline).

Ugh DS is vulgar and disgusting. And I say that knowing full well how bad I can be at times. I can't stand his site. Just a bunch of angry, poorly written misogynistic rants that make very little sense except for: "OMG SHE'S A WHORE AND SHE HAS TITS AND I'M JUST A HORNY LOSER WITH A MISERABLE LIFE, DON'T WOMEN SUCK?". No thanks.

If I want to feel like utter shite for being a woman, I'll read a history book. There are better ways to write comedy than pulling the desperate "Women are disgusting filthy worthless whores" schtick.

  8. well SOMEBODY has some issues!!

    LMFAO!!!

If you don't like a site, don't go there. If you don't like a show, change the channel.

Everything evolves or it dies. Sometimes not as quickly as we would like..but....

  9. Yeah, Huffpo is getting a bit too TmZish lately. Whenever people accuse me of reading too many gossip sites, I always countered with "But I check Huffington Post every couple hours also!" Now, that means nada.

But, I do think that was a completely inappropriate outfit for a presidential event. Even more reason why she (and many other celebs) really had no business being there. Save the see-thru dresses for the Golden Globes!

  10. I JUST found out about this site this morning, after clicking a link off of Dlisted. It didn't become an instant fave like CDaN... in fact, reading the links I figured it's basically just a porno version of any other blog site..

  11. Ror, women don't have issues just because they find Drunken Stepfather offensive, it's called an opinion.

they might as well call that site "girls i'd like to date rape"
have to agree with Bad Fish, that is one site that makes me cringe.
i would read Hollywood Tuna before I read DS.

  13. LOL Jungle. I was gonna say, Huffpo's getting bad but not THAT bad!

  14. I'll back up jax and Bad Fish's opinions on Drunken Stepfather. I figured the misogyny was part of his locker-room-meets-nerdboy schtick, but it doesn't make me want to come back. Then again, I don't think I'm his target audience.
In any case, it's okay if the Huffington Post feels like it needs to evolve to keep its readers, but going anywhere in the NSFW territory should be off-limits, including those pics.

  15. well put jax, but it's obvious he's too big an ass to get it. he thinks he's clever. oh, and he thinks he's welcome around here.

drunken stepfather is really not my cup of tea. heh, imagine my surprise the first time i innocently followed a link to mr. skin. you'd think the names would tip me off......

  16. Oh dear! This is what I get for reading CDAN top down! I think I responded to Selenakyle above with a link to Natalie in Egotastic?? Maybe not .. they tend to run together in my mind.

But re: nipple slips in general .. My suggestion - to the Hollywood elite and celebutard alike - is introduce yourselves to the miracle of double sided tape .. ESPECIALLY when you are wearing an outfit such as Ms. Portman's. Sorry .. but that gown has POTENTIAL DISASTER written all over it. As for Padma - nipple covers, sweetie. Invest in some if you do not wish for your goodies to be splashed across the 'net. I mean, Christ! If a porky Midwestern House Frau like me knows about this crap .. you gals should, too.

As for HuffPo .. Please do note that they are now fully a "Internet Newspaper" and NOT a political blog. They still have blogging at the site .. but this is NOT the HuffPo of yesteryear. Or .. at least 2005. [I will refrain from telling you if I think that is good or bad.]

But .. let's face it. T&A gets viewers/readers. Guys like it for obvious reasons and women like it for the purposes of being snarky, comparing themselves to the star in question or to scream and yell [I make no judgments about rightly or wrongly] about the objectification of women.

As for the "naughty" sites .. if you like 'em .. look at 'em. If not .. I guess don't then. DS has never really appealed to me, but I have been known to check it out when I am looking to send something about a particular star to a friend who has a yen. But .. thinking back .. it has been well over a year since that happened.

Lastly, as for who is and isn't welcome around here, I think that is EL's purview. If he has an issue, he can ban whomever he wants. Here is a trick I learned from the numerous political blogs I read, post at, run .. if you don't like what someone has to say .. do not engage. You will never change their minds .. they will never change yours. If you have no wish to get involved in the tiny pissing matches at a given blog, post and walk away. And lastly, blogging is pretty much a vacuous activity. Don't take it or yourself too seriously.

  17. Wil, Bunny was talking about Ror, who isn't welcome around here because he is a cat-torturer and murderer. :(

  18. i think they crossed a line. it's supposed to be entertainment and news, not close ups of boobs and going 'ooh and ahh' like people have never seen a tit before. it's one thing with rihanna cuz it's a part of an actual ongoing news story, but caring that much about the sheerness of a womans dress is reaching, big time. like a horny teen looking at underwear catalogs to get off- desperate and cheap.

it's bordering on perezhilton and that's not the direction any legitimate news site (even celeb news) would want to go, i don't think

  19. What happened with Ror? Didn't he used to be a funny, non-offensive type of poster?

Are there 2 Rors, or does he have multiple personalities?

    ReplyDelete
  20. If they had dressed appropriately for the White House Correspondents Dinner, their tits wouldn't be all over HP. Seriously, how hard is it to cover your nipples?

  21. Maybe SP demand quick access?

    I kid, I kid...

  22. Justpeachy, in one of the Your Turns, Ror said he had beaten a man to death when he was younger, then he said he and some friends tortured a cat then left it to die. It was pretty brutal. Ror, if you're reading this, get professional help, please.

  23. Mooshki, skanky fish, and the rest of the accusers with no life and no clue. This is for you.

I'm stealing a bit from SNL called "really".

Really!?! You read something on the Internet and you believed it? Really. Really, you believe everything you read online.

Really. You have never met this person or spoke with them and don't know him, but ASSUME something written online was by him, therefore it must be true (in your mind). Really. Really, this must suffice for facts?

Really, we don't understand why a commenter on here only injects humor and not the snarkness we all smother ourselves in because we obviously don't have anything better to do with our lives. Really! Really?

Really. Really, somebody who isn't a hypocrite by bringing down other sites but yet will comment on FFF. Really. Well, I'm at a disadvantage, since I'm male and I'm not gay. Really. Really.

Really! Really, I don't give a flying fuck what you and the rest with zero sense of fucking humor say. It means absolutely nothing to anyone except you and your ilk. Cunts of a feather flock together! LMFAO. God I crack me up. Of course, you won't find that funny either.

    I rest my case. Really.

  24. Ror - get back to your prison cell thanksxbye

  25. That was pretty hard to read, but what I think you're saying is the cat-torture and murder were supposed to be funny? I guess you're right, I have zero sense of humor, 'cause I didn't laugh. At all.

  26. Ror....now thats funny!! LMAO!!!!!
