Susan Boyle - Britain's Got Talent

It is not very often that Simon Cowell is left speechless by a performance. Susan Boyle stunned the judges and the UK with her version of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables. You have to listen to her story and then watch her sing. Seriously. It is well worth your time.

  1. I saw this on Dlisted this morning. Her lovely voice made me cry just a few notes in.
Close your eyes and listen. It's wonderful!

  2. Awww, that was so cute!

  3. How bad does it suck that she'll never be huge in the music industry, but Britney Spears is a stars.

  4. That one judge was absolutely right - it is a privilege to hear her sing. She is amazing.

Goes to prove the old adage, "Don't judge a book by it's cover". 'cause you might just get seriously pwned on national television.

  5. Damn! I think Simon has a crush! ; )

She has an amazing voice, great control .. wonderful. And yes .. it is very sad that she likely would never have a career because humans are shallow fuckers who judge everything based on "beauty" .. what ever the hell that is!

  6. I bet she will get a makeover and some type of career out of this. I hope so; her voice is heavenly.

  7. I wept like a baby when I heard this - how wonderful for this woman, who apparently has led a pretty insular life, to bounce back from grief and perform this song in front of a HUGE audience? WOW. That takes serious guts.

Besides that, she's an eyebrow wax, a new outfit and a new hairstyle away from being attractive. There's nothing fundamentally unattractive about her.

  8. Please someone give her a gig. Broadway or whatever it's Brit equal needs to hire her cheeky talent PDQ! AMAZING!!

  9. Agreed, WarmIsland! And there are plenty of roles in musicals for middle-aged women. Well-deserved YES from here, too.

  10. The best part? Simon holding his head in his hands and sighing in awe and joy. He looks like a schoolboy watching his crush from afar.

    Unbelievable, and unbelievable beautiful.

  11. You better believe she's going to have a career. On behalf of every ugly, old, cynical dreamer, thank you, Susan. You showed'em. We will be buying your CD's by the cartload.

  12. If that one Asian singer dude dropout from Idol, who's name I can't thankfully remember, so I'm not even going to try to look it up, can make some money being a gag, then this woman should be able to make a few coins at least.

  13. Simply outstanding. I loved the look on Simon's face. I am in the U.S., but am rooting for Susan to win this competition. People love a good fairy-tale ending.

  14. Damn, it was William Hung wasn't it? Damn my brain.

I'm glad to find out I wasnt the only one having a problem with tears.

  19. I cried the 2nd time while listening to this and for once, my husband didn't laugh at me. That is high praise.

  20. Wow. I'm listening to it again and still getting goosebumps!

    Thanks for sharing that, Enty!

  21. What is her 'story'? Did he mean the lyrics of the song, or did I miss something about her?

    ReplyDelete
  22. That is just too too! What a wonderful uplifting story of someone achieving their dream!

    You go, girl!

  23. I got goosebumps listening to her. And then a few hours later, I heard it playing from a co-worker's office and I had to go listen to it again. Truly amazing!

  24. This made me tear up the way Paul Potts did last cycle. It's so wonderful that they allow people who aren't "the beautiful people." That said, I desperately want to pluck her eyebrows and get her a hair cut.

  25. Add me to the sappy weepy crowd.

  26. Fantastic. Yes, we've all had a huge lesson from this - usually people on these shows are grossly delusional and untalented. Way to go Susan!

  27. Simply brilliant...

  28. I really hope she doesn't change anything about herself. As much as I would like her to wax her eyebrows, for her own sake, she's delightful as-is, and I'm afraid if she got all purty I would start to hate her eventually. You know how everyone cracks on Kelly Clarkson now, but we all looooved her when she was still wearing those dorky glasses. Urkel syndrome.

I'm a +1 in the cried at work while watching this today category.

  29. Shallow from a consumer point of view, maybe. If she got a great hairstyle, lost some weight - not a lot, and got her eyebrows done (she's cute as she is with some minor fixing) - there is reason on earth for her not to be able to musical theater in Europe or the US. Many roles she could be just as she is, perhaps never the star but a working musical actress.

Many people in theater are character actors anyway, but that voice is magical. You can tell she has a hell of a personality to go along with her talent.

Simon looks seriously impressed by her talent. Let's hope she makes it, that would be so deserved. That was a pretty thrilling performance no matter what.

What is her story, anyone know - google was of no help.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Add me to the list of weepy listeners, I took the time to listen to the whole 7 minute performance on Youtube, and the woman not only has a fantastic voice, she has a vibrant personality to go with it. What a treasure! I sure hope she gets some sort of deal out of this, she'd be perfect for musicals!

  31. She wouldn't be eligible to even audition for American Idol because of her age.

I know the US has a lot more people but how many uber-talented <28 year olds who have never auditioned are still out there? Instead we get too many marginal talents packaged to form America's sweetheart, the overcoming adversity story, the rebel and the blah and the blah and the blah.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This validates my belief that the best singers, actors, and musicians are not in Hollywood, but in good ole regular life!

    ReplyDelete
  33. From Dlisted:

Susan said she hasn't sung in two years, because she was too heartbroken after her mother passed away. Susan has never been on a date or kissed another person. She lives by herself with her best friend, a cat named Pebbles. And now she's the most famous cat lady in Britain!

  35. She will have a career long after Britney's is over, for reals. She will work in theater and opera and may not get the stardom but she will always sing to people who truly respect her talent.

How does someone go that long and not get noticed or encouraged to try an audition? I'm just amazed.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Blown away by that heavenly voice. Add me to the weepy people. I can only dream of singing like that. She needs to go viral. She's incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  37. She is amazing. I cried too. What a boost for all of us "everday people" who have many, many talents and will never be recognized. Thanks Susan, and Enty.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I watched this three times in a row and cried each time. It is such a privelege to listen to her sing, but I'm also so happy that she will finally get the recognition she so clearly deserves. I agree with Charlie -- there is nothing fundamentally unattractive about her. But it takes a lot of work to look "performer-gorgeous" and like most people she probably has not had the financial resources -- or reasons -- in her life to go to such lengths. I hope she doesn't change too much. Who she is now is part of what makes her so appealing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, this is actual singing talent. As in, makes people weep (for joy). Not dragging out a one-syllable word to 15 syllables that is all you hear today.

  40. .... I'm completely speechless. WOW.

  41. Oh, to add to Vixen's list, you have to listen to Linda Eder as well. She's a true talent.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @S - but who has she dated? Enty said that there would be quite the infection trail but I can't find her being attached to anyone well known.

Except she is German... maybe the Hoff?

  43. I don't watch this show or the American version, but I really love these clips that come out from time to time where a contestant really surprises the judges and the audience. Like Paul Potts, or that little girl last year who sang "Over The Rainbow" and almost made Simon cry. In a recording industry filled with hacks, it's really quite refreshing to hear a really good, naturally beautiful singing voice every once in a while. I hppe this lady gets a chance to do something with her talent.

    ReplyDelete
  44. She gave me goosebumps. That is what real talent sounds like!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Too bad she can't sing her way into a plastic surgeon's office!

  46. Enty, way to make me cry!!!

    EAT THAT SIMON!

I've watched the video umpteen times and still get goosebumps! Susan is finally living her dream and we are the lucky ones for it! Words cannot fully express the beauty she possesses with that voice. God bless you, Susan, and good luck on Britain's Got Talent.

  54. Oh. and HEY BAD FISH! (I assume that's your pussy). Did you see "The View" today?!? Oh yeah...they showed this clip. And what a shock....Baba was almost in tears. And Joy Behar said.."I dont' get it?!!?" Baba said..well, she'll win. And Joy said, "A what?!? An eyebrow wax?!?" LMFAO!!
