Shaheen Jafargholi - Britain's Got Talent
In one week Susan Boyle has gone from an anonymous person living in Scotland with her cats to world superstar. I'm a fan of Susan, but I also think everyone needs to take a step back and calm down. Everyone loves her story, but there are other people in the competition, and I think that if she keeps getting this much attention, at some point it will backfire and she might end up losing. Who to you ask? What about this 12 year old kid who didn't let Simon fluster him at all. Shaheen Jafargholi started singing Valerie by Amy Winehouse and Simon said it was wrong. So, the kid just changed gears and sang Who's Lovin' You which is an old Motown song and has been sung by Michael Jackson.
He's got a great voice--no question. But he's all technique--he doesn't move me the way Susan did. Besides if you read his background you see he starred as a young Michael Jackson in the European tour of a stage musical called "Thriller Live," so the kid's not really the amateur that Boyle is.
ReplyDeleteStill, his voice rocks.
^ditto Craig!
ReplyDeleteI do feel kind of bad for anyone auditioning who isn't Susan Boyle. And then I feel bad because that's a tremendous load of pressure on her to be amazing every time we see her. I can't help it. Wasn't this all filmed a few months ago anyway? I know Simon said Susan auditioned in January or something. So the other people auditioning probably aren't facing a 'Jessica Simpson auditioning for the Mouseketeers right after Christina Aguilera' thing. I don't really know how the timing goes, actually.
ReplyDeleteThis seemed like a setup to me -- watch the way Simon acts after he suggests that the kid do another song. Still, the kid has talent
ReplyDeleteThis kid is so totally a manufactured story, created by the producers to add some drama to the competition, instead of producing a show that is Boyle's to lose. He's ok, but not nearly the special talent that Boyle is.
ReplyDeleteI saw this clip the other day and I really don't think this kid is that good. He is trying to make his voice do things it is not yet strong enough for. It is all technique (albeit failing) and very little emotion. What was so enchanting about Susan Boyle's performance was the fact that she was almost laughed off the stage and she took everyone by surprise.
ReplyDeletethere's no question that the kid has talent but there were no goosebumps that i got like when i heard boyle's.
ReplyDeleteValerie isn't by Amy Winehouse.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say something that will enrage most of you but, here goes.
ReplyDeleteI like Susan Boyle's story. She seems like a really nice woman. Is she the greatest vocalist I have ever heard? No. Is she a great vocalist? Meh. As people have been complaining about this kid, there is good technique but she lacks passion and any understanding of the song. "I Dreamed A Dream" is a song sung by a woman has been broken down by life - knocked up, abandoned by the father of her child, constantly shaken down by the people she left to care for her child to the point where she sells her hair, and, ultimately, becomes a prostitute before dying of TB. It's a really tragic song sung by a bitter woman.
Susan's song is kind of sad and I admire her for doing well on a song that is, technically, very complicated. I just don't feel she is the end all, be all. Paul Potts, last seasons dweebie gem, was much more talented. Which isn't to say I didn't get teary when I heard Susan sing. I just realized, in hindsight, it's because of the juxtaposition of her appearance, her never been kissed story and a lovely song that people are going so crazy over her, not because of her being an exceptional vocalist.
Bash away.
I thought the reason why Susan Boyle got everyone excited is because she actually has a voice. Listen to her then listen to the crap that is on radio now. Why shouldn't Susan Boyle enjoy some recognition for a voice that isn't manufactured? Record company execs should be embarrassed they made Katy Perry a ton of money (have you heard her latest song - absolutely disgusting "singing"). I'll take Susan Boyle over most of the so-called artists out there today.
ReplyDeleteJENNY S I HAVE BEEN SAYING THE EXACT SAME THING TO PEOPLE!!!!!
ReplyDeletethe reality is that this susan is amazing but to have THIS type of world recognition is PURELY BECAUSE she looks different than how she sounds. PERIOD.
dont think that outer looks arent the ENTIRE reason for these shows and hell in life aswell.
if you talk to ANYONE who has auditioned for American Idol they will tell you that you get a chance to sing for a precious few sSECONDS and then they look you up and down and judge you.
Many geniunely good singers have been dismissed beccause of not having the look or looking so 'intersesting' they got in.
Susan's story is soooo not like your usual run of the mill and she is unlike ANYTHING we have seen that that is the reason people are going gaga. voice nonwithstanding. and if you all are honest with yourselves you will admit that watching her sing wouldnt be have so great without that 'interesting' mug to gaZe upon while doing so....
This boy is a child star,he has had parts on tv showsand toured in a show,so not so unknown
ReplyDelete"Valerie" is on the Mark Ronson CD, Version (2007), it features Amy Winehouse. On another note: Pls forgive me for digressing, but seeing Simon really smile for the last two weeks has me all warm inside.
