Paula Abdul Says She Has Never Been Drunk

Tomorrow night, "Nightline" is airing an interview with Paula Abdul and contrary to most celebrity interviews the ABC reporter actually asked Paula some very tough questions which required direct answers.

“So let me just ask you the question straight up. Absolutely crystal clear you have not abused prescription drugs?”

“Never,” Abdul said.

“You have not consumed alcohol before going on the air?”

“Never. I’ve never been drunk in my life.” I don’t like it. It’s not my thing. Spending money on clothes and shoes, that’s another thing.”

Ummm, yeah. I know what you are thinking. Is she just that crazy, is she lying, what is her definition of drunk exactly? Does she only consider herself drunk if she has to crawl to get anywhere?

Kudos to Nightline for asking this great followup question. Take note all of you morning show anchors and reporters.

“[On your reality show] There are so many times where you don’t look like you are really there. You’re eyes are closing, you’re head is falling back.”

“Because I’m falling asleep and a camera is on me,” Abdul explained. “I don’t have anything that is shameful. I don’t have anything to be embarrassed about that was not accurate documentation of my life.”

That is the strangest explanation I have heard. She just falls asleep randomly? Narcolepsy?

During the interview she also made it sound like Idol wasn't going to renew her contract for next year. I think all of us saw that coming about a year ago, so no big surprise there. Seriously? Never drunk? Come on.

  1. Paula has a lot of medical issues, including chronic pain. Do you know what it's like to live through that? It's hell. You need to take medication just to function.

I've always thought that was the reason for her loopiness.

  2. Just curious.....if she has NEVER been drunk in her life, how does she know she "doesn't like it"? Hey, just sayin'.....

I believe her...kinda. I don't think she's been drunk on air. I think she's on muscle relaxers. All the classic signs are there (blind item limo pooper, anyone?) and with her neurological condition I'm sure she justifies it as needed medication.

  4. I'm not sure about the "never been drunk" part, but I believe that she has some sort of neurological condition which she is taking relaxants for. I don't think her behavior is the result of alcohol. I mean, wouldn't the producers have stepped in a while ago if that was the case?

Your hysterical...perhaps she witnessed drunken parents or friends and didn't like it then perhaps she would feel like "ye ole bottle" is not for me..just sayin lol

  6. Well if she keeps falling asleep on the job, then I can see maybe why they might want to hire someone who can stay awake and be coherent.

  7. If you haven't seen Paula peddling her crappy belts and other tacky garb on QVC you should tune in for 10 min. She's on something, no doubt about it.

  8. I agree. Paula isn't drunk, she's on medication. I like her on AI and will be sad to see her go. Read somewhere that Simon might be leaving too.

  12. a lot of people don't understand that they are abusing prescription drugs even if they get them from a physician. they don't see it as a problem because it's legal and prescribed. and there are plenty of docs out there who hand that shit out and don't ask questions, too.

bottom line, there are indeed people walking around completely fucked on those drugs and they're as addicted as the guy lying in the gutter who shoots heroin.

i don't know what her deal is though. she acts out of it to me---sometimes more than others.

  13. What nancer said.

I had a friend who didn't drink but abused prescription painkillers and anti-anxiety meds. She acted the same exact way Paula does.

  14. I remember her saying before that she acts funny when her blood sugar is off. I know that I act/feel drunk when mine is off, so it could be that she is telling the truth.

  15. Rihanna and Katy P look undeniably adorable, but pray tell, who the HELL wears sequins or a girdle to go play in the ocean? In the tropics? Just....weird.

CLASSIC line of a pill junkie

I should know, I've used it before

    Hypogycemic, diabetic, anemic, etc.

Paula is addicted to painkillers, muscle relaxers and anti anxiety pills-aka the trinity

Its no secret that she's had pain issues and if they are as severe as she claims, motrin won't cut it, so why lie?

I really don't believe she drinks at all

Paula, you aren't "falling asleep", you are "ducking" like any other junkie

  17. if she suffers from fibromyalgia, i understand the drug "lyrica" can be be pretty heavy duty (which is why i haven't investigated fibromyalgia for myself, even though we suspect i may have a touch of it). and oxys make me pretty goofy. 10 mg. of percocet make me pretty goofy too. but in a high adrenaline atmosphere, i don't notice it as much (which generally are the only times i would need that kind of heavy duty relief).

but i don't think that's all she's on. and if it IS, then she's not taking it just for pain. she's having way too much fun to be taking it just for pain.

  19. Diagnosed over 10 years ago, I too have Chronic Pain Snydrome. It is a monster(pain)and difficult to explain to others. I have had countless surgeries and completed several "pain management" progams. I no longer rely on medications. Since the pain is with you always, it helps to form a relationship with it. I have learned to "make friends" with the pain. Ms. Abdul may benefit from embracing non-traditional and holistic approaches to deal w/her situation. Besides the fact that meds can destroy your other organs, they can also produce erractic behavior. I know it appears like she is drunk, however it could be the affects of the medications, expecially if you take 1 or 2 extras throughout the day.
