Lane Garrison Getting Out Of Jail
Sometime in the next few weeks Lane Garrison will probably be paroled from jail. I say probably because you never know when he will decide to make a shank from a spoon and kill someone. Yeah, I watch too much television. Lane, if you remember plead guilty to a felony charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, as well as driving under the influence and providing alcohol to a minor.
In November 2007, he was sentenced to 40 months in jail. So, that is what? About 18 months? Half his sentence. I will always respect him for standing up and admitting his guilt. I do wonder if 18 months is a long enough sentence for killing someone.
Earlier this week he settled the remaining lawsuits that had been filed against him as a result of the accident. His lawyer said, "All injured parties have been compensated. This should be a complete resolution to any claims by anybody, including the family of the young boy who died as well as the two girls who were injured."
So, Lane starts with a clean slate when he gets out of jail. I guess he will go back to acting. It is a pretty safe bet the paps will be following him for the first few weeks to see if he screws up again. I think he has probably learned his lesson. I just wish it hadn't taken the death of someone to learn it.
Who is this guy?
ReplyDeleteI never heard of him, anyone?
I had completely forgot about him.
ReplyDeleteHe'll probably get a reality show.
ReplyDeleteMM: He's from Prison Break apparently (and ironically).
@SK
ReplyDeleteThanks
Nick Hogan, take note of how a man takes responsibilty for his actions.
ReplyDeleteHe made a mistake that caused the death of someone, he admitted it, took resposibilty and paid his debt to society and the famillies.
it's horrible someone died, but he's done all that he can.
I wish him the best in what will be a sad and tortured life.
I agree with you completely jax. The Garrisons clearly did a much better job raising their son than those pathetic Hogans.
ReplyDeleteI do admire that he stood up to what he had done, but he deserves a hell of a lot longer sentence than that. He got underage kids drunk, then killed one of them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know...the guilt of knowing you were responsible for someone's death is a pretty stiff sentence. It does say a lot that he admitted guilt and offered monetary compesation to the injuried parties, instead of looking for some legal loophole that would keep him away from jail time and monetary loss.
ReplyDeleteNot knowing too much about him or this situation, I don't know if he needs to stay in there longer or not.
He was drunk and on coke, he crashed a car and killed his passenger. His sentence was probably similar to what a non-celeb would've gotten, I just think that all drunk driving penalties are nowhere near severe enough, especially when someone ends up dead.
ReplyDeleteDon't think 40 months was enough especially if it involved killing a minor (or anyone).
ReplyDeleteI completely echo Jax's sentiments.
ReplyDeleteI think 18 out of 40 months sounds pretty near the norm. If they wanted him to do more actual time, they needed to sentence him to it. The prosecutors know what the average reduction for a sentence of good time is.
ReplyDeleteBy the by - in my state you get similar time in prison just for getting repeat DUIIs. And, I've had people facing 60 months hard time (no sentence reductions at all) for DUII accidents that didn't kill a soul. It just depends on where you're at. I'm not going to blame him for taking the sentence that was offered.
I hope he doesn't go back into acting. I hope he starts over...a nice quiet life somewhere where he works hard and finds a way to serve his community. The fast life isn't all it's cracked up to be.
ReplyDeleteLyz,
ReplyDeletehe's going to have to to pay off the famillies some how and i doubt that Mcdonald's will cover it.
He looks like Scott Peterson in the recent pictures I've seen. Did he play him in the made for tv movie? (I'm not kidding; I really don't know!).
ReplyDeleteLinks88, no that was Dean Cain. And I hate myself for knowing that.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Elsie. I'm with Mooshki and others. His sentence should have been longer, or he should have done the full 40 months.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jax.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't think it's possible for any state to come up with the "right" amount of time a person should be put in jail for this.
We don't know what the effect of the crime is on the criminal (torment? nothing?) and further, we can't agree on the purpose jail serves in addressing it - penance, punishment or reform - or whether it's purpose has anything to DO with addressing the criminal's reaction to what he's done.
He got a lighter sentence because he plead guilty and (this is a guess) because the kids chose to get into the car with him knowing he had been drinking. If he hit a random stranger on the street, I think he would have had more time. He also spent a few months in jail before the November 2007 sentencing.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time blaming just Lane Garrison in these tragic events. The kids were already partying when he arrived, and they CHOSE to get in the car. It is very tragic that one kid died, and 2 other were injured, though. I think he has served enough time.
