He Can't Be Serious

I don't normally talk about politics on this site, or decisions on whether a politician should run for election, but in this case I just have to. According to the NY Post, Eliot Spitzer is thinking of running for the Attorney General of New York again. If you remember, Spitzer was Attorney General before he became Governor and Client #9. To me, him running for the top law enforcement job in New York is akin to when Marion Barry ran for office in Washington DC after spending time in jail for crack possession while Mayor. Of course Barry won his election, so maybe I'm wrong.

How would anyone take Spitzer seriously? How can you prosecute people for crimes when you yourself committed crimes? Does he think the people of New York will forget this? Does he think they love him so much they will just forgive him and say he should be the guy who enforces their laws? Is his ego so large that he doesn't realize how idiotic he looks and how he embarrassed the state? His opponents wouldn't even have to come up with sneaky commercials. Everyone else would do the dirty job for them. Every press conference would start with the question, "Why exactly do you leave your socks on while having sex?" Oh, another one could be, "In this economy, do you support the use of government vouchers so people don't have to pay full price for escorts?"

Spitzer just needs to move on with his life and stay out of any involvement with politics or anything to do with law enforcement.

  5. it's not just that he committed A crime. Noooo. It's that he committed THE crime that he was working so hard to prosecute other FOR!!!

He was going after johns like crazy--while being a john.

Now THAT requires some fucked up mental gymnastics.

  6. I have never met a district attorney or deputy district attorney that did NOT actively prosecute crimes they themselves have or do commit.

The favorite? Prosecuting people for DUII's or possession of marijuana while doing either or both.

  7. I am from NY and would take Spitzer back in a heartbeat over our current douchebag Patterson. I'm just saying....

Having Spitzer as a choice for AG is wasting tax payers money.

He must think people have forgotten the crime he committed.

  9. Having stayed at the Mayflower hotel--the site of Spitzer's follies, I know why he kept his socks on. The beds are seriously short. How else could the man keep his feet warm when his feet are dangling off the bed

I am 5'3" tall, and my feet were perilously close to the edge.

  10. FYI: when Marion Barry ran for Mayor after "the bitch set [him] up" his slogan was: "he may not be perfect, but he's perfect for DC." And you know what, he's right about that. Now he's councilman for Ward 8, which is the most ghetto, crime-ridden ward in the city, and they freaking LOVE him for the same reason Colombians loved Pablo Escobar: he gives them stuff. Every year he gets popped for some crime, and nothing happens to him. The latest is that he hasn't paid his taxes in years, despite supporting very high taxes. No one in the city even cares.

  12. Well, I might be a lone dissenter here...

but I think Spitzer is smart as hell and very capable and I don't give a hoot about his sex life or personal life or whatever.

He knew about the Wall St. shit going down and called it out and amazingly, voila! he got snagged for doing ATM on the hooker, which who the hell cares anyway?

Think a politician's wife doesn't think/expect/assume/fear that her husband is fucking around?

It was the getting caught that was bad for his family.

Sorry... but smart, powerful men get a lot of pussy. Always have, always will. Oh, except for the gay ones, and they're gettin' something, too.

  13. I totally agree Selenakyle. And on an interesting "side note", do you know who apparently Spitzer's "look out" guy was through his skeevy side dealings..... David Patterson. Interesting, eh?

  14. Um...what about Bill Clinton? He gets a hummer in the office and REAMINED! He LIED to everyone about it to boot!

At least Spitzer addressed it, admitted it, and stepped down.

So what?!? Who fucking cares if he likes to bang hot young cunts. Ooohh! He's SOOOO BAAAAAD! Gimme a fucking break.

The truly sad thing about this is that this culture can't seperate one's personal life from the service they provide the public.

Let's dive into everyone's personal lifes and see how they stack up.

  15. Did Spitzer's wife ever leave him? Or did she decided to suck on Scotch and ignore everything?

  16. I love that this story is about Spitzer, but that his pic is a little bitty corner while the prostitute gets 10x the photo space.

  17. Ent, I read you every day but your post shows virtually no understanding of who Eliot Spitzer is, what he has done and is capable of doing in the current economic crisis (guess who was going after AIG before anyone even knew what AIG was), and why he was brought down. Pls stick to showbiz stuff bc your cred takes a nosedive when you opine about stuff like this.

  18. Of course he can have opinions about whatever he wants. And if you look at the commentators, plenty of readers agree with him. Seperating personal life my ass - if he had done something legal, say had fifteen divorces or something like that, but buying prostitutes very much impacts his work. First of all morally (you cant be in charge of prosecuting the mafia if you are a member of the mafia) and second, the amount of stupidity he showed in this whole affair is just appalling.

  19. @mooshki I posted this on the Boyle and yesterdays blind item topics:

    OT but...

    HIV foreign pop princess?

*girl said she thought it might not be because Enty said that there would be quite the infection trail but she didn't seem to be attached to anyone well known. (*Girl thought as it was in Germany it could involve the Hoff LOL).

I can't seem to find much info in the UK press but will keep looking!

  20. How would anyone take Spitzer seriously? How can you prosecute people for crimes when you yourself committed crimes?Ask Rush Limbaugh. He still rails on about druggies. And while you're at it, ask him why he brought Viagra to the Dominican Republic when he was travelling with four male companions. {I know it's a cheap shot but it was easy, I'm lazy and I couldn't think of anything to say about Ann Coulter}

  21. S, thanks. I also think it probably isn't the same person as Enty's blind (I'm still 99% sure it's Amy), but it is a funny coincidence!

  22. linnea, probably every politician in this country and perhaps the world does things he/she shouldn't. Most of the politicians in Washington just never get exposed. The banking industry wanted Spitzer gone because of his investigations--including joining with all 50 states to stop predatory lending only to be sued by the Bush administration to stop him. So, guess who blows the whistle on his secret: big banks. This was a hit job on him because of the important work he's doing. Yeah, he has human weaknesses--which among us doesn't? Is that really worth shutting down one of the very, very few smart and aggressive public figures willing to speak truth to power? He was protecting us from predatory big business--the insurance industry, the banking industry--something no one else in government has been doing over the past decade. Is that public good really trumped by being caught with a hooker?
