17 Years Without A Sick Day
When Jay Leno went to the hospital last night with some kind of pain or sickness it marked the first time he had missed a show in the entire 17 years he has been hosting The Tonight Show. I'm a Letterman fan and always will prefer Dave to Jay. But, I will admit that Jay works much more, and also much harder. Everyday he is not working on The Tonight Show it seems like he is flying to Vegas or some other city to perform on the weekends and then goes back on Monday back to work.
I'm sure there are probably some of you who have made it through 17 years of school or work or a combination of both without missing a day, but I know I haven't. I have a tough time making it through 17 days without taking a sick day. I guess it helps if you love your job, get paid very well for it, and if you are lucky. It just seems that over the course of 17 years he would have missed a flight, fallen down some stairs, had a door slammed shut on his chin. I mean there must have been something. Who knew it would take the visit of Ryan Reynolds to get him into the hospital.
He should be back on the show Monday. Get well Jay.
Dave probably has a happier wife at home.
ReplyDeleteYa, I'm a Dave woman too, but I gotta give it to Jay for working so hard. He even performs at the Indian casinos here in SoCal on the weekends.
ReplyDeleteDave and Jay are both good, but I still miss Johnny Carson so very much. He was irreplaceable.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Johnny. I have the dvd collection of his shows.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the Johnny train, too. Somehow "Heeeeeeeere's Jay!" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
ReplyDelete"I have a tough time making it through 17 days without taking a sick day."
ReplyDeleteGOd, me too...of course I don't like my job and am usually quite hungover...
He has what used to be called a work ethic that come of these celebrities such as Lohan know nothing about.
ReplyDeleteNow that was a Fredian slip!!
ReplyDelete-- I meant what some of these celebrities such as Lohan know nothing about.
Ya, Johnny was the man. Too bad NBC pushed him out for Jay before Johnny was ready to go. Remember when stars would just walk on stage after coming from some event in Hollywood? Ah, the good old days.
ReplyDeleteI saw him one afternoon at the rodeo in Houston and that same night, saw him on TV. I don't know how he pulled that off, but he did. Both were live!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I don't like him much because he takes it easy on stars like Michael Jackson and OJ. Letterman lets it ride! OH and Jay loves prostitutes!
Jay is an asshole. I hope he stays gone. Conan can't come fast enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Dave woman! He is really great.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a wee baby and couldn't sleep, dad and I used to watch Dave together. I am a Letterman girl for life!
ReplyDelete(but get well Jay :))
Anyone else think it's odd he was not just out sick but hospitalized so close to taking over 33% of NBC's weekly primetime schedule. Stress? Anxiety? A temper tantrum over some a contract issue? Just wondering...
ReplyDeleteThe only time I heard of him having a tantrum was when Howard Stern was on his show. He didn't like something about Howard (can't remember what) but he walked off his own stage. I thought the show was cancelled for that night. Anyone else remember that?
ReplyDeleteI like Jay. I think he is much funnier than David Letterman. Yeah, he's softball but he doesn't have people on his show who are *completely* out of it. And he does do jokes about pretty much everyone.
Isn't it his birthday today?
I don't know...I get very, very sad when I hear stories of people working so many years and not taking a sick day. I hate to see people give so much of their life to a job regardless of how great it may be. There's so much more to life than to plug away hours for an employer that doesn't have the same dedication/loyalty for its employees. Yeah, I don't celebrate that stuff I just feel sorry for the person if anything because I immediately wonder what all they missed around them while they were working. Working is just a watered down version of doing time! Ok, I'm off my soapbox.
