MTV Is Desperate

I find it really hard to believe there is not a reality or scripted show anywhere in the world that costs the same as The City and could not do better. Apparently MTV disagrees. Despite the fact that absolutely no one is watching The City, MTV has ordered another season of the show. Is there truly nothing else available? What about some True Life episodes? That is a good show. MTV also ordered a full season of Teen Cribs which I have not seen but am guessing is either celebrities who live at home or a show similar to My Sweet 16 where rich kids rub poor kids faces into the dirt with the stuff they were born to, and to make poor kids feel they are inadequate from a very early age.

"Mom. How come I can't have a 60 inch plasma in my bedroom and a butler?"

Watching My Sweet 16 is a train wreck, but I think the kids come across as arrogant and obnoxious so it is kind of self satisfying in a way. I think Teen Cribs would be different though because instead of a party these rich kids are going to have toys and electronics that regular kids will never be able to afford and is really no different than showing skinny people on the cover of magazines and wondering to yourself how come you don't look like the models.

  1. That girl is so incredibly ugly. Looking at the picture makes me what to punch her in her "I'm worth all this attention" face.

  2. I saw a piece of Teen Cribs and it is rich kids that live at home where there parents have turned the house into a kid paradise essentially.

Why does MTV even bother continuing to call themselves MTV? Music Television it ain't.

  4. Yeah, ditto what Share said!

Also, I've only watched 3 episodes ever, yet I HATE the kids on that Sweet 16 show. These parents are doing the world no favors with their brats. And how I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall when they get into the real world and find out nobody puts up with thier "entitled" behaviors and probably laugh in right to their faces.

  5. Oh get over it...is it any worse than A Double Shot at Love or fuckin Bromance? there is a LOT worse shit on tv but people act like its on a continuous loop on the only channel on tv.

  6. Shoot, I know plenty of kids NOT brought up with a lot of money or spoiling who still became selfish, petty, entitled, manipulative brats.

Like Bridezilla...now THAT shit happens in REAL LIFE to lots of families. Bitches get their heads stuck so far up their own asses they can see nuthin' but brown.

  7. Whitney used to be my favorite.
    Then she became lauren, gross.
THE CITY SUCKS ASS. IT IS SO BORING.

I used to love my super sweet 16. my favorite was that arabian birthday party when every 5 minutes the girl yelled "muuu-ooommmm".

i wish laguna beach was still on. when stephen called kristen a slut in cabo, that was epic.

  8. I don't remember what the show was, but I watched an episode of something where a 19-year-old was kicked out of his parents' house and forced to live on only $5000 a month cash (the apartment was paid for by the 'rents). I realized I couldn't watch that kind of thing anymore without punching my tv.

  9. (Oh, I think he said something along the lines of "that will barely pay for my meals.")

  10. With the economy in the crapper, why does MTV insist on showing the teens of America the brattiest of the brat?

This just confirms my actions of making my 15 yr old volunteer at a homeless shelter a few days a month.

'Reality' TV is cheap to make, that's why there is so much of it.

  11. It's crass and all but some people like the escapism. I'd rather they did more of that show where they drop the spoiled kids in poor countries and they all freak out. And learn a lesson for, what? Ten minutes? Or until they get a new Louis Vuitton handbag.

  12. Yes you can only catch music on MTV between 2-3am
and I'd rather watch Adult Swim to cure the insomnia than what they are offering. Cribs and Super Sweet 16 are soo far from the reality of 99.7% of the rest of the world it's like watching the Twilght Zone/Outer Limits, with more bling and temper tantrums.

  13. It's amazing that anyone (under the age of 15) even watches that network anymore.

I don't like reality shows at all. As far as I see it they are staged and over exxaggerated.

  15. survivor is still #1 in my book, but it and amazing race are a different kind of reality show.
i don't really consider these kind of shows "reality".
i much prefer anthony bourdain and judge judy!

  17. Did you hear Mike White will be on the next Amazing Race? I think he will be ganged up on.

  18. Yup, Survivor, Race and BBrother are favorites in our house.
Have never heard of any of these other shows.
In my next life, I want to be Terri's kid. :-D

  19. Lisa, I always think that these brats will get a taste of the real world, but you know what? They seldom do.

My SIL was spoiled and entitled all her life. She married a very wealthy man and he spoils her now. She still gets what she wants by any means necessary. It's very discouraging, because I keep waiting for her to get her comeuppance and she just never does.

Don't you work with or know someone who is a total princess who never wants to get her hands dirty, and somehow, inexplicably, people tiptoe around her and comply with her wishes?

  20. I forgot to mention that MTV had a 'reality' show done here (Two-A-Days) and it portrayed my town as hokie and hick, which it can be, but overall is NOT. It was part of a downfall of the school.
