I'm A Little Confused
I know I confuse easily. I'm getting old, and so things take awhile for me to process. The thing I was most curious about reading last night and today was what Jeremy Piven had to say about his mercury issues. I wanted to see how he was going to spin it, and if everyone would bite. Well, with the tabloids you know they will bite. Do you realize that most of the weekly tabloids will not run a story if the publicist denies it for fear of alienating someone later and not getting an exclusive. They could literally see Mary Kate Olsen tasering people on the street screaming, "I love In-N-Out" and if her publicist said no, it didn't happen, they wouldn't run the story because the tabloid might need a favor from the publicist down the road.
Anyway, the tabloids seemed to buy into Piven's story. But I don't. Here is what Piven had to say to People.
"The reality is, I was brought to my knees by this illness. It feels like the heaviest bout of mono you've ever had in your life. It was completely overwhelming to the point where you get vertigo and it's not healthy. This was the dream of my career, to do Broadway. The last thing I wanted to do was leave the show. I'm so proud of the work that was done there."
Umm, yeah. OK, so Jeremy left the show the week before Christmas and the doctors led us to believe they had just diagnosed this thing and that was why Jeremy was so sick. Is everyone on board with that version of the story? That if Jeremy didn't stop ingesting mercury and get some rest he was going to do some serious damage to himself. That is the impression I got in everything I read.
So, then, if that is the case, explain this statement from Jeremy he also said last night. "I haven't had a piece of fish in five months."
Forgive me if I can't add, but that would mean that he would not have had any mercury entering his body from about August at least through fish anyway. I thought his doctor said that Jeremy was eating fish all the time. Up to five times a day. That he went to Thailand to get treatment. It sounds to me like he was getting treatment, or at least was aware of the problem a long time ago. So, I would think in August it would have been much worse then in December and surely his doctors would not have waited four months to suggest Jeremy get treatment if his mercury levels were the highest they had ever seen.
The crap story was working until Jeremy added that part. Then it all just kind of fell away into the bull it really is. So close Jeremy. Can't wait to see what story you come up with for the next time.
I definitely don't buy his story, but what does everyone think the real story is? I'm banking on drug overdose.
ReplyDeleteJeremy was interviewed on the red carpet with Mark Wahlberg and Mark said that they needed Jeremy to be okay for his most important gig which was Entourage. Also Mark turned his head and kind of smirked when Jeremy was giving that whole lie of a story to the Access Interviewer.
ReplyDeleteNot on my dollar,
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too..but Mark only said it after the interviewer started ribbing him..it was a complete lie and MArk even knew it. He smirked away not realizing he was on camera and even said "I hope that mercury poinsing isn't contagious" and laughed at him.
Enty if you haven't seen it,find it.
Ya see....that's how we won the Viet Nam war. All the Viet Cong ate was fish all the time and held stage shows in their off time, and they just all slowly died of mercury poisoning!
ReplyDeleteOh..wait.....nevermind.
The Piven Douchebag. The gift that keeps on giving.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that Mercury poisoning can be really tough, a friend of mine was recently diagnosed with it. But he had been sick for months, and from what I understand, that it usually the case. You're ill for months, sometimes even years, and nobody can figure out what's wrong with you, until a doctor happens to put you through the right bloodwork.
ReplyDeleteMy friend DID eat a lot of sushi and fish in general, but the poisoning came from the fillings in his teeth. He's having them removed and replaced, one at a time.
Pale Ale, not that he isn't on drugs, but the story I heard is that he was pissed he was getting a critical drubbing, so he wanted out of the show.
ReplyDeleteHarriet do you believe Jeremy?
ReplyDeleteJax it looked like Mark was caught up in the middle of Jeremy's lie and didn't know how to respond.
No, that was going to be my point... although I never got to it. I don't think Mercury poisoning is something that you get all of a sudden and then recuperate from in a matter of weeks.
ReplyDeleteMark Wahlberg started the whole ribbing thing last night... Piv was laughing saying he had the best boss (referring to Wahlberg) with Tiki (who was sort of politely dancing around the mercury thing without actually mentioning it) and suddenly Marky Mark said "I hope that mercury poisoning thing isn't contagious" and bam! it was on.. It seemed a tad malicious to my eyes. He seemed to want Piven to be embarrassed. .... I get that Pivert has dug himself into this hole but for his 'boss' to bring that up and then smirk and make faces while Piv tried to talk himself out of it was a little high school... A bigger man would have risen about such tacky behavior. We get it Mark, the tabloids are loving the latest Piven installment... but really?
ReplyDeletewe can agree to disagree John.
ReplyDeletei thought it was deserved. leaving a Broadway show and screwing over the whole production because your reviews weren't great or you can't hack it is high school to me. about time someone put him in his place as if to say "we aren't buying it,dumbass"
IMO brilliant.
i loved mark had to say and his attitude thru-out piv the perv's red carpet stroll.
ReplyDeleteha! call it like you see it marky!
If Jeremy is healthy enough to attend the Golden Globes, then he's healthy enough to rejoin the play. Isn't it running until February?
ReplyDeleteIf he wants to keep up the pretense of mercury poisoning, he should stay at home until Entourage starts shooting.
Earth to Piv: Being a good actor means being a good liar. Think about it.
ReplyDeleteWhat Paisley said. And who goes to THAILAND to get treated for mercury poisoning? I'd have to guess that the medical facilities there probably aren't as good as the ones in NYC or LA. Just a guess. On the other hand, maybe the treatment was something that can only be provided by underage slave prostitutes. There aren't too many reasons men go to Thailand.

ReplyDeleteI thought mercury poisoning kills you??
ReplyDeleteSylvia - it does, but slowly. It builds up in your system over time, so you get sicker and sicker, then you die.
ReplyDeleteits such a dumbass story/excuse that wahlberg probably wants the world/industry to know that he's not buying or condoning the screwing over of that production by that twerps b/s.
ReplyDeletesometimes you gotta call b/s when you see it, especially when it hits you over the head, just so you're not guilty by association.
I thought this story was pretty interesting: http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwecker/1373181,CST-FTR-zp12a.article
ReplyDelete"Jeremy Piven didn't seem to be happy about having to address his recent battle with mercury poisoning on the Golden Globes red carpet.
Mark Wahlberg, executive producer of Piven's "Entourage," brought up the subject while both were being interviewed by NBC corre- spondent and ex-NFL star Tiki Barber.
"Is that contagious?'' Wahl-berg asked, backing away from him. Piven shot Wahlberg quite the sharp look, before turning to Barber to somberly repeat the claim his doctors insisted he drop out of ''Speed-the-Plow'' on Broadway or else risk a life-threatening situation."
From the Tiki Barber interview.
ReplyDeletePiven: "I don't know if they've ever taken you out of a game -- I could have gone against doctors' orders but I didn't."
Barber: "If they told me I couldn't play, I would have jumped back in."
Snap!
Yeah, I don't care what anyone says about Marky-it was a nice shot. Screw you, Jeremy-what a sore loser. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteHere's the real explanation: his scalp is rejecting his hairplugs, aka, he's a dumbass.
ReplyDeleteAm I imagining this or did David Mamet and the play's producers already indicate they were thinking of suing him? If so, why the hell is he on the red carpet answering questions about this? His own"entertainment lawyer" must be ready to strangle him.
ReplyDeleteEh, maybe my intense dislike for Marky Mark is clouding my judgement.. I just find him to be such a butt plug that this irked me. Agree with everyone's opinions on Piv bailing but he's obviously desperate for attention... to come out to an awards ceremony and talk in that pained "I'm sick" voice was just sad to see.
ReplyDeletedammit, i KNOW i read on another site the reason behind this whole thing:
ReplyDeletepiven asked a couple of months ago to be let out of the play, and was refused. so, he cooked up this mercury poisoning scheme, and the producers have had him see another doctor (no report from them, due to privacy issues), but the producers want to sue him because he's been paid for his time so far.
i'm not wording that very well, and for the life of me, i don't know where i read that.
and it seems to me, you'd have to eat one helluva lot of sushi to get mercury poisoning. and i thought you didn't get rid of it once it was in your system.
also, i had what he describes, but with me it was altitude sickness. or pregnancy. or seizures. take your pick.
Marky's probably wondering when Piv's going to screw him over like that. I wonder if his time on Entourage is now limited.
