Patrick Swayze Is Still Alive. Oh, And Mad

It seems that Patrick Swayze is a little upset. When you stop to think about he probably does have a good reason to be mad, but I think he is going about it the wrong way. In a statement he gave to Kneepads Magazine who dutifully recorded it as if it came down from the mountain on stone tablets, Patrick said that he is glad he finished the first season of his new television series. He then of course plugged it because honestly, even in a statement about your health you have to throw that plug in first.

He then basically slammed every single gossip outlet or tabloid that is reporting that he is dying and on his last legs and saying tearful goodbyes to his family. I could see how that would be tough. I mean here you are fighting one of the most aggressive forms of cancer and apparently keeping it at bay right now, yet everytime you go to the internet and look at gossip or open the pages of a tabloid someone says you are dying. I could see how that would make the battle more difficult.

I also know though that when you release a statement trying to pass it off as some news story when it is nothing more than a plug for your new show that you are somewhat of a hypocrite. I feel incredible sympathy for what Patrick and his family are going through. It is tragic, and I don't want anyone to think otherwise. However, when you start using the media for your own benefit, I think its fair to get something in return. I could very well be wrong but I don't recall him giving an interview about his condition. He certainly doesn't have to because it is his business. But, if he goes around doing a bunch of press for his show, I think it is wrong of him to expect the media to allow him that without being allowed to ask questions about his health and his condition. If he did that, then it would end the speculation about him, and he wouldn't need to feel like he is fighting an uphill battle against the disease and the world. It's a win/win.

  1. Ok, usually I agree with most of what you have to say. However in this instance I don't. His TV show is for public consumption, his health is not. The man has cancer, I think he should be allowed to deal with it privately. Maybe someday he will feel ready to talk about it, but usually while you are still fighting the battle you are not ready to go there yet. People deal with these things differently.

  2. I don't mean to be crude but I'm guessing he really is not doing well. It always seems like when someone starts vehemently denying things is when they are true. I hope I am wrong as I have always enjoyed watching his work. Poor guy.

  3. I'm not sure what to say about this. I love you Enty, but... I am a somewhat recent cancer survivor and I have to side with Patrick Swayze. He gets a free pass from me on pretty much anything he wants to do at this point. And I would also respectfully like to say that (if he is anything like me) he probably is not interested in anyone's pity.

  4. Oh, please. Someone thinking he's a hypocrite is the least of PS's problems. This guy has a terminal illness that will take his life. There is no treatment that cures pancreatic cancer. The treatment he's getting is prolonging it and I'm sure we all hope that prolonging is successful for as long as possible. Just because his illness was announced doesn't mean he has to talk about it. If he's doing a press junket for the show, then he's there to talk about the show. Anything personal is definitely up to him to decide whether or not to talk about it. None of his rights are given up simply because he's sitting before interviewers. His illness is his business and no one owes the press/tabloids anything. Sheesh!

  5. The tabloids just need to back off and leave him alone. It's got to be hard enough fighting for your life without seeing headlines that have you dead and buried already. Hell The Enquierer had him almost 6 feet under back in March. Their headline was Patrick Swayze only has 5 weeks to live. Just give the man a break for God's sake

  6. I lost both my dad and grandfather to pancreatic cancer, only a few years ago, and I've seen firsthand what it can do to a person. So I think Patrick Swayze is a fucking miracle and I am so happy to see him working and attending some events. People LIKE to read about tragedies and the fact is that a person who is keeping their illness at bay doesn't have as much news value as someone who is dying, or even beat their cancer. I can't do anything but wish him all the best, and assume that HE knows what's best for him at this point.
